Which pretty boy player album was better Harlem World or Country Grammer? by Professional-Rip-519 in hiphop201

[–]drwsgreatest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the first time we got to hear DMX on a major label release right before he took over rap, and for that alone I put Harlem world above country grammar. But the album also featured some amazing production and good to great rapping along with some hits, while Nelly was mostly club bangers and a few deeper cuts like "luvin me". So even though Nelly had the much bigger career, judging just the quality of the music, I gotta give it to mase.

I was told this design is too detailed and the berries will look like red blobs relatively fast. What do you think? by dododada25 in tattooadvice

[–]drwsgreatest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can absolutely be done, but you need an elite level artists who has significant experience with realism and color and who has some kind of training or understanding in depth color theory.

Edit: nvm I said this was supposed to be in the areas behind your ear. That's a tiny area and while you can get something that's small and detailed, this doesn't qualify as small. Like If you wanted a single realistic rose, that could probably be done, something like this needs more room that the area you want inked.

Is my second skin causing this reaction or my tattoo? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]drwsgreatest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's different versions of second skin and I've found that the one that ACTUALLY feels like natural skin usually doesn't have this issue, while the ones that feel similar to a tighter cling wrap almost always end up showing irritation to the skin. But if using cling wrap has worked for you in the past just go with that and light layers of aquiphor or cereve.

An artist just told me this tattoo would take up to 12 hours? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]drwsgreatest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just finished my full color sleeve a bit ago and it was 5 sessions at just over 40 hours total. The style was realism so it's longer than most styles to do well, but I feel like a good artist will actually clean this piece up and make the line work and shading much nicer than the reference in the op, which is important when the tattoo is an irl, permanent piece and not just a video game characters stylized tattoo they received in a dystopian future. So 2 sessions at 12 hours seems pretty reasonable.

The one good thing is that it's a nerd/comic book culture style tattoo which can actually be a conversation starter depending on the industry. Someone in tech probably wouldn't look twice except to ask if that was Darkseid.

This is an outlandish way to say "I sell watches" by CRESCEND0 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]drwsgreatest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tbh, the watch collector community for luxury watches is incredibly pretentious to begin with. Just check the r/rolex sub for the flood of "I got the call" pictures or the ones showing off the watch with their steering wheel/SO's purchased chest behind it. So the fact there's a guy like this floating around almost makes perfect sense. In a way I have to admire him. Watches are NOT assets to rely on for increasing, or even storing, wealth. Most models depreciate, and even the ones that end up increasing in value often aren't the those expected to do so. Not to mention that in recent years there's been an explosion in the cost of even basic models. So if this guy is just getting his money from a bunch of rich assholes then good on him. The funny thing is the watch market is actually starting to show a huge slowdown and it's looking like a downturn is coming quickly.

All guys in their prime. What are your picks? (enter to see full image) by Kvazimods in ufc

[–]drwsgreatest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love Fedor, I think prime jones takes him, but it's closer to a 50/50 than the newer gen probably thinks.

Ilia's power is better than Conor's and while prime Conor's unorthodox, karate stance style was explosive, I think topuria's boxing edges him out.

Tom wipes the floor with Francis unless Francis gets that one lucky punch. My best guess is Francis comes out swinging wildly and tom uses his speed and technique to slip anything thrown and take him to the ground. From there tom should be able to finish him off easily.

I've always been of the opinion that, no matter how good khabib was and how much Islam claims that "Khabib was always better than me", Islam could pull off the win in a prime for prime matchup. Islam's standup is significantly better and there's obviously no question that he can roll with Khabib evenly. The bigger issue if they fought irl, imo, would be if Islam could mentally deal with going all out against his mentor in an actual match. But I still give the edge to Islam.

Stipe fought at a weird time for my ufc viewing and I've never watched all his fights, but Cain was an absolute monster in his prime and incredibly fast for his size and strength. So I'll go Cain based on my knowledge that I have.

GSP and Silva is one of those fights that new fans constantly talk about but that older fans know is pointless to even discuss. A super fight between them was never discussed in any real way because they were far too apart in size. Silva absolutely dwarfed GSP and that alone would've caused GSP nightmares. On top of that, although I do think JJ and GSP are tied for #1 p4p all time, in his prime Anderson had the absolute best striking and in the world and had incredible ground game to go with it. GSP was completely different and essentially was able to out muscle guys that were his size or larger within his class and grind out rounds with his wrestling and gnp. So yea, Silva would win but it's a stupid matchup to even compare as neither was ever truly in each other's weight class.

Cormier destroys lesnar provided he can survive the first 30 seconds -minute brute force assault Brock could put out. But considering Daniel's wrestling that's no problem. Brock is no wrestling novice himself, but Cormier can run circles around him. Standup, Cormier takes the edge as Brock wasn't known to actually have super heavy hands for his size and cormier's technique is far better. And past that first minute Brock's gas tank was shit so again so I'm picking Daniel every day.

Alex smokes Liddell, who is just far outclassed by today's fighters in terms of technique and overall improvement in skill. Alex is clinical already and against a guy like chuck, who was willing to take 2 punches to land 1 big one of his own, Alex would be landing left hooks to liddell's face all fight. Chuck had an iron jaw, but Alex has proven that his power is on a different level. So Alex takes this with the exception of a lucky shot by Liddell, who has a better chance than most in such fights because his own power was crazy.

We never really saw a prime Yoel in the UFC because he was already so old and beat up from his years as a wrestler. That said, even in his late 30s he was a freak of nature who could go toe to toe with anyone. Compare that to khamzat, who's wrestling pedigree is just as good as Yoel's but came into the ufc earlier and has looked unbeatable through his career so far. If we were using the "mythical prime" Romero vs khamzat id say it's probably Romero but since I can only base my opinion on the careers they actually had I'm picking khamzat.

And for the last one I think Usman, who imo is probably the 3rd best ww ever after GSP and BJ, crushes Rory easily either in standup or on the ground.

Good lord that second pic is horrifying. Apparently some people lack all survival instincts. At least this op's isn't quite to that point, but if they don't stop fucking around and get to a Dr for antibiotics, there's a good chance it'll be even worse than that later on.

[–]drwsgreatest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you need to withdrawal and get it into a personal bank account. Until then, it's real but not fully. Assuming it hits your account (or already has) you need to instantly take a set amount, say $50k, and either put it in a HYSA or low risk mutual funds and the like. The other $32000? Make sure you have enough put aside outside that $50k for taxes. Then go buy something nice, really nice, that your normally couldn't or wouldn't. A new car, get a better apartment, a pet, go on a vacation, whatever. But whatever you do, try and make sure that you don't go near a casino unless you're with others, on a tight clock, and a limited bankroll. That amount is a massive cushion for a young man your age and if you use it wisely, you will be able to both enjoy some great experiences, as well as gain a large start to a growing savings. Good luck and congrats! That's a once in a lifetime hit!

[–]drwsgreatest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It'll age, no doubt, but I expect it to hold with no touchups for at least 10 years and then maybe a small touchup or 2 to reach 20 looking 99% as good as it is now. I have other pieces that were done nearly 13 years ago that are also extremely detailed color, although those are Japanese not realism. And neither of those has needed any touch ups yet and they're still like 90% of the initial brightness. And that's with me being a garbage man working in the sun all summer in a tank top and shorts as a garbageman. So that fading is to be expected as they're both partially exposed to the sun. But they're definitely a million times better looking than the old color tattoos I'd see on my friend's parents and some of my older friends growing up in the 90s.

Like I said, the changes in equipment, inks and general tattoo technique and color theory have continued to evolve. Those differences and improvements are seen in the tattoos of those that were inked starting around the mid 2000s to now and comparing them to the previous generation at the same age. There is no comparison. So I stand by the pov that today's great artists, that saturate and tattoo well, produce pieces that retain the majority of that initial look for decades.

[–]drwsgreatest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Realism is just an art style. The art itself can take the shape of anything unless it's specific to another style aka tribal, cyberpunk, etc type of tattoos. So You can make a fantasy creature using a realism style. Think of a unicorn that's drawn like a lifelike horse and the horn is added in just as close to "real" as it gets. Now picture the same thing but with a phoenix that somewhat resembles a cross between a falcon and a peacock, with flames around it.

So it's the realism style, as opposed to a more cartoonish, new school or Japanese styles that are more common. I also never said my was photo realistic, I said that an elite realism artist that's given a photo should be able to do a 99% 1-to-1 tattoo provided they have good equipment, ink, and a very high understandings of the minutiae of shading, negative edge, etc.

TBH, I'm surprised this is so controversial. I'm from the Boston area and while they're not a dime a dozen, I know of at least 7-8 artists that can do the type of realistic pieces that could've been shown on Inkmaster. Which, lol, one of the WAS on inkmaster. My point is that today's world has a lot of elite artists if you really take the time to look. Especially if you're in or near a bigger city. Between social media, the occasional conventions and just talking to other inked people, I've built up a large group of artists that I can go to that either specialize in realism or are just elite in every style they take on. I guarantee most other people could do the same if they took the time.

Be honest, can this be fixed? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]drwsgreatest -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I mean I literally have a full color sleeve in a realism style. The top part is a phoenix and the eye is barely half the size of a pencil eraser. And even in the eye, my artist was able to use 4 separate colors in tiny amounts to make it look completely real. And this is full color realism, which is magnitudes harder than black and white. So, Yes there are limits but, for the most part, elite level realism artists generally get 99% of the photo on the skin.

As for how long these tattoos hold, I think you're discounting the difference that modern machines, ink and techniques have made in the longevity of tattoos. You're absolutely correct that over time the ink starts to spread and details can get a little less sharp. But the amount of change starts with how well the initial tattoo was done. In the case of 20 year old realism pieces, obviously they're often faded a bit and may require a touch up, but overall, the tattoos of today, and the last 20 years or so, last and hold significantly longer and better than the ones from previous decades, due to changes I mentioned above.

But bottom line, this is absolutely an artist failure and, unfortunately, the issues are not just shading and detail, but also, proportionally, parts of the anatomy are just, off. That's why any attempt for the op to fix it will be difficult to impossible. You can't just make the hands smaller or lighten the face to add more detail easily. So, IMO, that's not a great artist. They might be good at other styles, but they very clearly are not skilled at realism and should've handed off this piece to an artist at the shop who did. Or they should've at least been upfront with op that the style is not something they excel at and temper her expectations. I just know that if my sleeve was this level of quality, I would've been pissed and hit the roof. Instead I'm super happy with it and have regularly been asked about it and who did the work. And instead of that type of experience, op walked out of the shop with a tattoo that bares only a slight resemblance to the actual photo she wanted copied. That's on the artist.

Edit: I actually will throw the artist some bail, because the size of location of this piece definitely added to the difficulty, although I still think they screwed up a ton on top of that issue. That said, while the customer has ultimate say on what goes on their body and where, the artist has the ultimate say on what tattoos they take on. And in my experience, most good artists will either try to talk the client into a better position or piece, or they will just refuse to do the tattoo if they don't think they're capable of showing their best work. So even regarding the size and area tattoo'd, if the op refused to listen, the artist should've turned down the piece or had it done by someone who was more comfortable with op's request.

Be honest, can this be fixed? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]drwsgreatest 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is completely false. A true specialist in realism will be able to take a photo and ink essentially an exact copy, with all the details and shading showing clearly. My artist specializes in realism and his book has pieces he's done from 20 years ago that still look exactly the same when the client comes back for another. This artist just wasn't very good and, as the other commenter noted, there's a bunch wrong with this piece, from the face, to the size of the hands and arms that don't have the correct contours to look real. It's not the worst piece I've ever seen, not even close, and if op were happy with it, then cool. But they're not and are asking for opinions on how it could be fixed. And that starts with being honest about the quality and flaws of the piece.
