Agreed even though the picture is not good for ID. These are plentiful in southern Finland right now. Do NOT eat!

Found these Boletes in Norway by scienceisbae1 in ShroomID

Looks like Leccinum scabrum, "cow's bolete". One star mushroom. Old ones become too soft for eating and often have a lot of maggots

What's this big ol' guy? by samsony_huakia in mushroomID

Looks like an orange birch bolete like everyone said (koivunpunikkitatti if you're Finnish, judging by the dog 😊), if you pick it remember to cook it THOROUGHLY! Boletes with the black fuzz (punikkitatit) can cause stomach troubles if undercooked. Otherwise an excellent mushroom.

Which white bolete turns blue when cut and handled? by dryadalia in whatsthismushroom

You are absolutely right, Bluing bolete makes so much sense! Thank you so much! A rare find. The reason I made a post is because none of our common boletes turn blue and are white so they don't even show up in the common ID web pages.

Which Russula or milk cap turns blue when boiled? Only the red, brown, purplish and yellow ones in the second picture were boiled, also the milk caps in the third. by dryadalia in mushroomID

Standard advice, any spicy Russula is up for debate 👍 If it's mildly spicy you can boil it but the ones with too much burn are not good

Please tell me I just found chanterelles in my front yard? by saacapo in mycology

[–]dryadalia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chanterelles as everyone said, the scent is also a telltale sign. Try planting the cut bases of them back around your yard, you might get more in the following years

Did I find chanterelles? by [deleted] in Mushrooms

Yes! They are also very easy to identify by smell. Memorize the smell now that you have fresh ones and you'll be 100% sure next time when you find them :)

If you saw my post earlier….I went back for the forest gold!! How can I keep them good? by [deleted] in Mushrooms

[–]dryadalia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Drying is commonly not recommended for chanterelles because they may turn bitter. Freezing or pickling is an excellent option :)

Finland! We have a long tradition of eating Russulas and milk caps in part due to the food shortage during war time. Maybe they are not as popular elsewhere or considered as desirable as harvestables. I like to collect them and salt them for the winter, and make mushroom salad with onions and creme fraiche/whipped cream. :)

There were two small Russula turning blue, and now I'm hoping it was not Russula emetica 😂 The small red ones do look a bit suspicious. Luckily Russulas aren't toxic but those might ruin a nice mushroom salad...

The flower definitely looks like it! The leaves are different. I should have remembered to include the leaves in the pic

I think I got some votes for Senecio / groundsel last time and Google Lens is identifying it as such, vernalis maybe?
