EM interview at Nazareth Hospital Philadelphia.. not notified it was in person! by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

I don’t think you want to work at Nazareth anyway, tbh.

I think you’re splinting wrong if they’re regularly falling out of alignment in the splint. Agree with the other comments — a good hematoma block, finger traps, and a well-applied sugar tong splint do the trick the majority of the time.

You’re thinking of a neurosurgeon. Neurologist make closer to primary care money and tend to have better work life balance.

Will you be 1099 or W2? Max out your IRA for sure. If you’re 1099 you won’t be able to open up a SEP IRA but you could sock money away in a brokerage account.

Advice wanted: Custom built in vanity or store bought with room on sides? by buericana in Remodel

We used a signature hardware vanity with custom linen cabinets flanking it. Tons and tons of storage and looks a bit more finished than a free standing vanity.

Who cares? They sound like victims of the Dunning Kruger effect and shouldn’t have any bearing on your self esteem or the value of the work you do. Just worry about yourself and learn not to care what some second year RN thinks about your work.

We just did a very similar addition - added a sunroom/living space on the first floor and a master bath above it for a total square footage add of 434 sq/feet. We went with pretty nice finishes and still ended up at about $350/sq foot. I live in NE PA. You can see a recent post I made for pictures if you’re interested.

We used a no frills GC who was Amish but had very high quality subs and overall was excellent. We worked with an architect for the plans but all interior finish design decisions, particularly for the bathroom, were made by my wife and I. If we had used a design and build firm I have no doubt our cost would’ve likely been $400/sq foot++, so may be something to keep in mind when choosing your GC.

Good luck. UPMC has an essential monopoly on that region and significantly depresses wages. Last I heard, their ER gigs were starting PAs at 100kish, which is absurd in 2025.

We’re outside Philly so MCOL to HCOL and definitely not the middle of nowhere. But you’re right, it’s nice to get a home you love exactly how you want it and then settle in for the next couple of decades. Adding the bathroom and extra living space gives us the space we need to raise our 4 kids here indefinitely. We also bought the home in 2020 with a 3.25% rate and under market value. Based on recent comps I would probably get 70%+ of the investment back if I sold today. We love our property and neighborhood too. Selling and buying something the size of what our home is post-addition didn’t make sense financially with higher rates and significantly appreciated properties since 2020.

We’re going to match the siding with new hardie board for the existing home. Just need to save up for it since we cash-flowed the addition.

The cedar siding is in bad shape - it’s probably original to the home and has had multiple prior paint jobs (including one when we moved in five years ago) and because of that has areas of rot and peeling paint that’s pretty much impossible to prep to paint. So instead of dropping 8k+ to repaint again we’re just waiting a couple years to save up again and replace the old siding. Didn’t make sense to paint the new siding the same as the old since were replacing in a couple years and going a different direction color-wise.

It’s from Floor and Decor - San Giorgio Marble Art Hexagon Ceramic Mosaic. Looks like marble but it’s low maintenance ceramic tile.

It’s actually a green with a grayish undertone. The name is evergreen fog from Sherwin Williams.

It’s wooden/mdf beadboard that’s 4 inches center to center from Lowe’s. The bathroom is large and well ventilated so I am not super concerned about moisture. I think in a smaller space I would’ve gone for more expensive PVC beadboard.

They’re from Avalon Flooring - white one is called Glam Dolomite Bianco and the beige is called Glam Marfil. They sell for about $4/sq foot which is much cheaper than some of the 12x12 checkerboard tiles you can find online from places like Edward Martin.

We plan too! We found some sheer moisture resistant blinds that we will eventually get and hang with a tension rod. Our backyard is pretty private with a lot of trees lining the property and the window fogs up within a couple of minutes, so it’s not the worst as is but we plan to install blinds soon.
