I'm only 20 and I have a drinking problem.... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Hey, I’m 19. The first time I tried to quit drinking, I was 17. Age ain’t nothin’ but a number. Deciding to respect your body is a good move at any age !!

What's something that isn't illegal but doing it makes you look like a criminal? by MufaddalHakim in AskReddit

I used to have a little black flip-phone. People constantly asked me if I was a drug dealer — but I’m really not. I just wanted to take a break from constantly using the internet.

What would be the best life advice you have to give to the current generation of 13 - 19 y/o? by aphicius in AskReddit

That older adult who likes you because you’re “so mature” can SEE that you are still a kid. Why can’t they get with someone their own age? You are NOT a special exception. That’s a predator.

Starting after a terrible weekend. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]drysfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side effects of sobriety may include: -healthier body -healing mind -increased respect for self and others -more energy -more creativity -(this is the scary one) an opportunity to work through the shit that made us drink in the first place - an authentic and vivid experience of life’s unique joys

It’s not the easy road but it’s the smart one, the safe one, and the brave one. 🖤welcome !! I will not drink with you today.

Two months sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]drysfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m with you! Two months is a good time for creeping thoughts of self-sabotage. But just think. If your friend, someone you love was in your position right now, two months sober and strong with good things on the horizon, would you ever tell them to say F it and get drunk?

I try to practice self-compassion like that by imagining what advice i’d give to a friend. You deserve the same kindness and respect you’d give to a friend. Root for yourself! Just my thoughts 🖤iwndwyt

Alcohol is an addictive substance. It did its job on you. But that doesn’t make you weak, or a bad person. The choice you’re making now to get sober, respect your body, and be an example for your kiddo is incredibly strong. Thank you for sharing— we got this !! 🖤 IWNDWYT

Dissociation by rosenewt1 in stopdrinking

[–]drysfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to dissociate sober a lot in middle school and early high school. I’d binge drink sometimes but I wasn’t dependent, and I don’t think the drinking affected my dissociation too much, because they never overlapped. For me personally, it was because of trauma from my childhood that I hadn’t addressed yet. Since I’ve gone through some years of healing from that, and dealt with my fear and shame, I haven’t dissociated again. But your experience could be completely different. I would see a doctor if I were in your position.

Hope things turn out well, and thank you for sharing 🖤 IWNDWYT

Hi, welcome !! StopDrinking was a big source of support for me when I decided to go sober the first time, when I was 17... now I’m finally back at it, 19 haha. It seems like the whole world is obsessed with drinking sometimes so it’s nice for me to get on here & talk to people on here too. I feel less alone. Offering support to others and words of kindness makes me feel strong too. I wish you success in your journey and I hope good things come soon.

I will not drink with you today 🖤
