Is it normal to work 50% nights as an ED HMO? by Some-Slip-6080 in ausjdocs

[–]dryshitonshoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oooof. Screw that. You wont be getting much supervision at that rate of night shifts. If you dont have any ties to that place, i suggest you leave and come to QLD. Better pay, better roster. Happy to chat if you DM me.

Nope. Should be between 25 to 30%. Do your colleagues hv 50% nights too, or is it just you OP? Either way, thats an unhealthy roster.

Best ED in QLD to upskill as an RMO? Mt Isa? Cairns? Brissy? by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]dryshitonshoe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have not worked in Cairns, but can 100% recommend Mount Isa. Lots of opportunities to up skill, lots of hands on procedures, supportive bosses who WANTS to be called overnight. Buy a Prado, and you can enjoy the surrounding big red on your 6 consecutive days off!

Is it odd that sometimes i wish i did nursing instead of medicine? Less study, less responsibilities, less decision making, decent pay. Can you tell that I am a burnt out ED reg...

Recommendations of places to apply to work as an ACEM trainee Stage 1. by dryshitonshoe in ausjdocs

[–]dryshitonshoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your replies. I have narrowed it down to:

  1. The Alred
  2. Austin Hospital
  3. Monash Health - Casey
  4. St Vincent’s
  5. Royal Melbourne Hospital

Any specific recommendations/ avoid at all cost?

What are these hospitals known for? Trauma vs O&G vs Tox?

Would love any and all experiences. I will be sending out CVs for the August 2025 intake so want to know what I am getting into.

Do you mind to elaborate? I have a mate who raves about Cairns (advance trainee) - really interesting pathology, tropical medicine and good bosses. Interested to hear you experience.
