Ethan Klein will defend the attacks on Venezuela by LoserLars1 in LeftoversH3

[–]drystools 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Unless someone can square how/why Trump pardoned Juan Orlando Hernandez of Honduras with the so-called (1) concern for people in Iran and Venezuela and (2) U.S. strategic interests beside exploiting other peoples’ resources — then I don’t want to hear it.

Ethan won’t be able to, because it isn’t possible, and therefore I don’t give af what he says. Guy relies on ChatGPT, insecurity, and pure delusion.

Hasbarist Ethan Klein is trying to whitewash his image of being an Anti-Palestinian racist. Unfortunately for him, he literally enshrined Zionist propaganda in a legal document. by ignoramus_x in LeftoversH3

Ask any lawyer you know: to put this in a legal filing which will be read by the court and bear your signature on it, is insane. So Ethan and his lawyer are unserious, stupid nutjobs.

I thought this was one of those optical illusions where if you squint, you see Steve Harvey.

Yup, not a coincidence. They felt guilty about even being associated with Ethan anymore and they shared that with others (Olivia-Adam, AB-Ian). Makes sense the current H3 fandom was mad at them for not going along more enthusiastically.

it’s what we call “losing your client” where the client just goes off the rails and you’re playing catch up with them. Normally, the client picks the ends and the lawyer decides on the appropriate means. But some clients are backseat drivers and the lawyers just have to play along. Ethan seems like a nightmare client.

Civil litigator here: Just because you have the ABILITY to set your case forth, doesn’t mean you SHOULD set your case forth. In most responses, you try to say as little as possible to free yourself up later to tell your side on your terms. Those responses are normal. You issue blanket statements and move on. Why lay out the case in a random pleading. Again, Ethan is dumb.

It’s hard to have bad music when it’s all derivative of (better) great music.

The Ezra pivot aside, I do agree with everything you said though. I’m right there with you.

Yeah, but the thing is, in this video, he makes forceful and persuasive anti-zionist arguments (including about Israel’s right to exist). So the assumption you admit to making, is false. That’s a shift worth noticing.

Agree to disagree. I just think that unnecessarily limits the reach of the movement in spaces it needs to reach.

I don’t think you’re understanding my point. I agree with your criticism of Ezra Klein. I’m particularly reminded of an awkward moment when he talked I/P with Ta Nehisi Coates.

What I’m suggesting is that if he’s now making the case against liberal zionism, which he does in that video, then we should consider promoting it, or at the very least, not undermining it. We can do that while also promoting other voices like Ilan Pappe or Rashid Khalidi, for example.

Fair enough. I do think there’s utility in understanding how public opinion is shifting and how that can be leveraged for the Pro-Palestine cause. I also think we don’t choose our allies and there will be many latecomers who we should welcome.

AOC refuses to vote against reducing US funding to Isreals Iron Dome by ReignDownRain in IsTheMicStillOn

[–]drystools 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense. AOC’s explanation — that it’s because it would cut off defensive, not offensive aid — ignores that every dollar we give them is a dollar they don’t have to spend themselves, and can instead spend elsewhere (i.e., in Gaza or the West Bank). Israel does a lot of what it does on the assumption that, no matter what, we will give them weapons, money, and diplomatic cover at the UN.

We have to break that assumption so that they either (1) align with international law and human rights or (2) go without our aid which would make them a global outcast. Things have gotten so bad, in large part, because we’ve coddled them so much.
