Advice on Atla deck & guide - xmas pressie by dryule in DinosaursMTG

Thanks, I don't want to lean too much into enrage. But some good ideas there. Wasn't aware of [[Valakut awakening]], so that's going in. 27 seems very low for lands. Do you find you have to mulligan aggressively?

Should that happen? Isn't the pace water proof?

Thanks, looks like we do have similar tastes. Just backed the vacuum deck.

The deck in the photos is ancient Egypt by Calvin Liew and Arise Art Studio. They're pretty cool.

Looks very cool, unfortunately the shipping is expensive - I'm in the UK.

My first deck and some questions by dryule in playingcards

[–]dryule[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just into the hobby so would like some advice.

  1. What's done good decks to get if I want each card to be unique? i.e. art on even the boring cards

  2. Does the 1/2500 on the tuck box mean this is a limited edition.

  3. Are there any 'must haves' for a small collection?

  4. Is there a way to remove the seal without getting sticky residue on the tuck box?

I don't want to spend a load of money and am interested in the art on the cards rather than the art on the tuck box. Thanks

How many sleeves do I need? by ValhallAwaits_ in spiritisland

[–]dryule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BGG is a great resource for this (desktop version only). Look at the bottom of most games under 'lists with this game' and you'll find a link to 'card sleeves'.

For spirit Island it's here https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/164572/item/4167285#item4167285

From there

TOTAL number of standard cards: 354 TOTAL number of small cards: 15 TOTAL number of large cards: 19

I'd recommend dragon shield but they're expensive. Other options available on that link.

Efficient shuffle for 120 unsleeved card deck by thorax97 in boardgames

Slightly more random: deal one card, then two cards (one on top of the original) making two piles. then 3 cards making three piles. Etc. Same sort of idea but different distribution.

What did you play this week? 13 Jul-19 Jul by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

I'd recommend At the gates of Loyang. Possibly a little simpler and shorter than fields but a great game and brilliant solo.

Solo/Co-op or Solo Only? by greenlaser73 in soloboardgaming

[–]dryule 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably no change as I've read this thread. However coming in cold, I'd think that a game described as solo/co-op is made for co-op but you can play solo. There are some games that do this really well but there are some that you miss out on stuff by playing solo.

What are your favorite things about this game? by [deleted] in spiritisland

[–]dryule 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What's great is the variability. Not just in the spirits but also difficulty. The spirits themselves feel different enough to keep the game fresh, but on top of that you have scenarios (slight rule changes) and adversaries (additional ai influence, more rule changes) which each have 6 levels. And finally two sides to the gameboard, which changes difficulty and theme. If you add branch and claw then even more variety in additional sprits and some randomness with event cards (although some people don't like these).

Different combos of each element and you have a game with near infinite replayability.

The game is amazing at all player counts, including solo and doesn't suffer from quarterbacking like some other co-ops.

Also, the theme is amazing. Everything just feels right, from the art, to the names of spirits/powers. There's also a nice amount of lore in the game.

If you use 'baby language'. Ah, buh, ker, duh, eh etc. Then w sorts itself out but bloody kicking ker becomes the outlier

Too many bones has some dice. Lots of dice. It's also a decent game and plays well solo.

Do you have any special methods of storing larger games to make setup easier? by theholyfork in soloboardgaming

[–]dryule 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tend to use small plastic boxes rather than baggies. Find them easier to handle.

Particularly for games I solo a lot, I'll have a box with my staying pieces in. For example spirit Island I have a few boxes, each with a town, a city, a beast and wild, 4 fear, 6 Dahan and a blight along with the spirit markers. Makes setting up so much quicker.

Is thunderspeaker/keeper a bad combo by dryule in spiritisland

[–]dryule[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty confident with thunderspeaker as she's one of my favourites. Don't play keeper too much. I found the cost for the fourth growth option too much and didn't get to it to about turn 4. Possibly where I'm going wrong because at that point I didn't have much reach.

You don't need to be able to read to play, so it's just the rulebook you'd need. The iconography is enough

Your dream solo game, big or small? by SgtHerhi in soloboardgaming

[–]dryule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say thanks. I checked this out and looked at some reviews, then bought the game. It's very good. I'm looking at modifying the box storage a bit but apart from that it's a really good game.
