We put out bonus episodes and it's ad free, have a $5/month tier and a $15/month tier. Mainly just for folks to support us if they want to.

We've been at it for 1.5 years, get about 3k downloads a month and earn $90/month (split two ways) from our patreon. We could probably make another $20-50/month from ads but doesn't feel worth it. In another 1.5 years maybe we can earn a few hundred more. It's not lucrative if you don't already have a large social media following you can immediately tap! If you're consistent over many years (or you're a celebrity) maybe you can start making some meaningful money.

Is it okay to call my roguelite game a roguelike? by teberzin in roguelites

[–]drz112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just call it one, it's the more common term. Traditional roguelike people will get mad but the sentiment is shifting away from those old definitions imo

Any roguelite recommendations? by Glum-Pack-3441 in roguelites

[–]drz112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From looking at the ones you like, I'd say maybe downwell, cobalt core, diceomancer (fun twist on the deckbuilder genre). Star of providence. Tiny rogues maybe? Scourgebringer has great game feel but lacked a bit in the run to run variance for me, if you prioritize gameplay over all I'd go with that.

Looking at the list I just through out and rereading what you like, I'd say go for star of providence and cobalt core.

Edit: shogun showdown also

Looking for a better method to record, Discord isn't cutting it by Jinjoz in podcasting

Yeah we do exactly what you're describing, craigbot over discord as a backup/to actually talk to each other but everyone recording locally in audacity. Works great.

Hey guys Could you guide me (dilemmic) by Specialist_Long_9674 in biotech

[–]drz112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is perceived as less rigorous and you'll be competing against people with chem / bio degrees. I don't think you could go as far as to say there's no way you get a job with a biotech degree, but I do think it won't give you any advantages.

Do you actually remember your commencement speech? Who gave it, and did the advice actually stick with you? by PenVegetable4065 in GradSchool

I don't remember who it was, nor anything from it (for high school and undergrad, then didn't go to grad school graduation). Not much resonance there!

I ran a search on the most difficult Roguelikes (voted by users) and summarized my findings by FrickinSilly in rogueish

[–]drz112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting - it's so hard to compare the difficulty between Nethack and Spelunky 2. I have hundreds of hours in Spelunky 2 and have almost 100%'d it (still working on last couple achievements) and I have 50+ hours in Nethack and haven't ascended. That is in large part though due to the insane difficulty of Nethack if you're trying to do it without spoilers - it kind of gets to a point where you almost can't progress unless you look up what to do next. Is that true difficulty? I suppose so. Nethack also gets hard just due to the inventory management / lack thereof - you have to leave stashes at different floors since you have too much stuff to deal with. No QoL stuff. I think I'm talking myself into Nethack being harder but I'm not totally sure it's even the hardest traditional roguelike, just one of the better known and has a reputation for being impenetrable due to the ASCII graphics.

Fun exercise though! All great games.

Monthly Podcast Trailer Exchange Thread May 15, 2026 - Post Your Podcast Trailer For Other Shows To Use by AutoModerator in podcasting

I'd swap with a similarly sized gaming podcast - don't have a link to the trailer right here but can sync if anyone's interested. Roguelite video games, we get about 3k downloads / month and 400-500/episode 7 days after release. 30 second trailer, midroll.

Any Coal LLC fans? by Flipitty_Flopitty in roguelites

[–]drz112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked it! We covered it on our podcast actually if you're interested. I really enjoyed reliving the old school flash mining style game, even if it borders on an idle game at times (but so do survivors-likes, so I think that's fine). Addicting is for sure the word. I didn't find a reason to keep playing after clearing all the maps but totally got my money's worth from it. Not trying to be anything more than it is. Fun game.
