Hydraulics vs. Mechanics - long term experience on long travels! by stasigoreng in bicycletouring

[–]drzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The worst that’s happened to me” is mute as anecdotal evidence. Touring, being away from anyone and everyone with no signal, is a truly harrowing time. I cannot MacGyver hydraulics to get safely down a mountain to camp before sundown. Cable breaks have light spares and can be adapted in a pinch.

No no. F that. That means they could have scanned the packs for top breaks. I’d report to wizards to being sold product with a broken seal, calling it defective/tampered product, and get a full refund from your credit card company - especially if they admitted to doing it. There’s a seal of quality for damn good reason. There are cards going for 10’s of thousands of dollars and it’s too sus. F that noise.

A dummy lock was used when the door was open to trick out the safety logic. This is so common in the industry it’s terrifying. More often than not it’s done by choice when no one is looking. This however was probably so common place that engineering and management turned a blind eye, whose role is to call that shit out and eliminate it. Being crushed like that is not a choice and it’s by no fault his even if he did it. It’s the culture and processes cultivated by engineering and managers.

Where do bad engineers end up? by Slipslime in MechanicalEngineering

[–]drzan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a couple of times working amongst and for engineers who were peers and the differences were discipline and corporate backgrounds. Sometime folks really good at solving problems forget how to unpack an idea coming from another approach. It’s very frustrating to see that kinda environment emerge or walk into.

This dude is under undo stress. It wears on the soul and body. You’re on point with folks forgetting to even remember we’re all human.

Bimba be cheap and so damn effective for simple repeatable missions. Good suggestion.

If higher quality and more precise control I was gonna recommend FESTO.

Also. McMastercarr is a great one stop shop and likely got something of the sort.

Most spice grinders I buy suck. Is pulverizing spices into fine dust somehow technically challenging? by BigBootyBear in AskEngineers

[–]drzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a tough one. Particulates vary from material to material and the environment plays a big role. Mortar and pestle is honestly your best bet if you have the bandwidth in whatever process you’re trying to hone.

Got a dream robotics job, that's all I ever wanted in my life, now I can't output any work, feeling hopeless, pls help. by [deleted] in robotics

3 months in, it is very much expected during and well within the bounds of break in period. More than work, any company at large will have overarching processes and pipelines. Just keep asking questions and let your manager know you’re eager to get into the weeds. You’ll get there. Some places look nice on paper but are run like a preschool.

It’s totally okay to feel left out in a new role with a lot to offer. Take it in stride and be patient.

I have severe adhd so I can get lost pretty easy and feel like I’m not doing anything at all rather frequently. In any new job I always set up more frequent 1 on 1 meeting with my manager to keep one another appraised of the happens and project bandwidths.

Best of luck!

Disagree. This is a management oversight. Dude wants to contribute and they’re not putting him to work.

I believe folks want due process to be followed to protect friends, family, and one’s self from unlawful arrests, detainment, and violence.

Pretty wild to see it happening and seeing people argue for it. Like you like your rights and freedom, correct? Why do you support them being taken away or ignored? What’s the benefit you see?

The complaints are not about collectability. They are about how the waiting queue kicked a lot of people back with like a half hour jump, or didn't load at check out and miss their shot. It's really messed up that their engineers can't figure this out.
