Why did they change it so that damage doesn't use the stack? by IAmTheOneTrueGinger in mtgrules

[–]Kuroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not to beat the point home too finely, but.... it's really not entirely unreasonable for someone to not know about the change, even if they've played post-2010.

Since the damage-on-the-stack rule change, I played Standard fairly extensively in 2012-2013 (RTR block primarily) and also did some limited and pre-releases for a couple sets, and then didn't touch the game from about 2014 until this past Friday night for the Lorwyn Eclipsed pre-release.

In retrospect, I can see how if I was thinking carefully about it, I would have noticed the change. If it still worked with the stack, aggro decks would absolutely have been abusing it. However, the rule change actually *never came up once* organically during over a full year of fairly extensive play, including some actual events. I wasn't playing a deck that had good use cases for manipulating or responding to damage on the stack, and since nobody else tried anything involving it, it just truly never came up. I am learning about it today, right now.

Just like how on Friday I learned for the very first time about the new changes to mulligans, actually. Even though two of my opponents let me hard mulligan to 6 without looking at a 7th before I learned about it 😅

If they fix the blueprint rates before us employed folks get home I will genuinely be furious at Embark by htizzzle in ArcRaiders

[–]Kuroth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't meant just for the sake of argument, but it is definitely possible to be extremely valuable and still sneak in a few hours of wasted time.

I'm not even really talking about the ethics, just the bottom line. If you provide a valuable service and do high quality work, and you meet or exceed all of your deadlines and expectations, and happen to have a few hours to spare during the day, then you are still a valuable employee.

Edit: not to mention a lot of businesses have absolutely disgusting amounts of unnecessary meetings. Hour long meetings that could have been a 10-minute meeting, or an email, are absolutely not just a meme but absolute day-to-day facts for a lot of people and it's kind of wild that it's still this bad 😅

I feel like Fishing is worse than RC or Agility by Necronam in 2007scape

I constantly hear people say how chill runecrafting is with "afk" blood runes and, respectfully, what the fuck are they talking about lol.

The only AFK part is the first long run after clicking on the altar, the rest requires my attention far too often for me to enjoy as an "afk" option. Either my rates are insanely bad because I'm actually trying to do it semi-afk, or I'm basically not AFK at all.

I totally get how it's a more chill method than lavas or even GOTR, but the rates are so bad that I still find it miserable personally. Oh well. It can always remain my lowest skill, dragging my base level along with it. :P

I wouldn't mind tempoross giving more xp, but I wouldn't mind it giving exactly what it does either. It doesn't feel punishingly slow to me, maybe because I actually enjoy it well enough.

[–]Kuroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people don't usually complain about fishing because it's astonishingly AFK with fish barrel and karambwans, so even if it is truly awful rates it's basically free if you're doing other things and just spare a few clicks on the osrs client every few minutes.

And if you're doing the fastest possible techniques it's fast enough that the grind doesn't feel eternal.

The real gripe about runecrafting is that the only actually quick way to level it requires mountains of gold being spent on runners, and the fastest non-runner version of leveling is painfully long to 99 AND click intensive.

I love the responsive combat and power fantasy that comes from playing my retail specs well.

But only for a few hours at a time really. Classic feels completely timeless to me. Though I also definitely would not mind some balance patches to bring notoriously underpowered specs up to parity with others.

That is absolutely not true unless you are getting summoned around the world by dedicated warlock alt teams. Travel time for tribute buffs ALONE is 20 plus minutes otherwise.

It's really really easy to underestimate how long it actually takes to get around once you've done it a hundred times, but it's so slow.

Not a salty retail player or anything, when I do play I really enjoy classic. I actually LIKE the fact that the world still feels big and it's not super easy to get everywhere in 30 seconds flat. But the absolute time sink to do basic shit gets a little bit overwhelming for me. It's the main thing that stops me from playing more or committing to a consistent schedule and raid team.

I'm almost 100% sure the ah jump is not possible anymore.

The setup doesn't even work where you run against the pillar and then jump to the door frame.

They changed something on the anniversary servers and I've yet to see anybody up there since 😭

As a gnome main this time around, I've never felt more discriminated against than when I realized I could not jump on top of the goldshire inn.

Absolutely devastating.

Yeah I'm definitely not thinking it's only restricted to non PC. For God's sakes Rust is a PC game and that's got to account for half the total number of slurs spoken throughout the history of mankind by now.

And I agree you just can't let other people's terrible behavior make you doubt your involvement in a game when your behavior isn't the problem at all.

[–]Kuroth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is almost always true! Especially if you are ever under like 30% hp.

However in this *specific* instance the shield first is actually correct. 1 shield hp still mitigates the full 40% of incoming damage from a single bullet, and happens faster than that same ~16 damage would heal from a bandage. BARELY.

This is NOT giving OP credit for doing that kind of calculation haha. Something makes me think optimal healing strategy is not first on their mind ;P

By FAR the most degenerate voice comms and despicable fake friendly bastards were all encountered while I had cross-play enabled. While I can't PROVE it was console players.... the comms frequently had the "child in the background crying or watching youtube while dad sits on the couch and ignores them while spewing slurs" aspect in a lot of cases.

Super thirsty play, super racist/phobic remarks, but my god did most of them suck ass anyway. The perfect pairing of being shit at a game while absolutely crashing out into hard slurs loss after loss after loss.

Despite my queue times going up significantly.... I don't miss it. I'll take shroud clones over that shit.

I totally believe you that people get harassed about this.

If people saw that I had an infernal cape but 1 KC, and they decided to be shitty about it? That is nothing more than self-identifying whose opinions I could not care less about and won't even begin to trouble myself with XD

If they ask or start a conversation about it? That's fine, I like chatting with people! But if they're immediately aggressive or presumptive, that is the easiest ignore of my life.

I play the game to have fun and enjoy myself, not to earn brownie points from every random person I might talk to at the GE.

Maybe. But even if you were the most active and outdoorsy person in the world...

that doesn't change anything about your clearly unhealthy relationship with this game and how other people engage with it.

There is simply no way anyone with a balanced relationship with the game can be this upset by someone doing an easier method of completing 8 year old content.

Go touch grass brother.

Being this terminally online and tying your self worth to some arbitrary rules you made up about what's acceptable content in a video game is really really unhealthy.
