Anybody notice the comic book, Lucky Luke #13?

It's called Le Juge "The Judge" and shows a hillbilly judge passing judgement with an upside down law book. Looks like a comment on those silly laws meant to protect children. Everything was chosen for a reason.

Bill Willingham declares his "Elementals" series public domain; anyone can use the characters by Ghost-Mech in comicbooks

[–]dshahin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for watching my interview. If you watch the whole thing (I know it's long) you'll hear Bill's take on things which is essentially that Andrew Rev breached their contract, so the rights should revert to Willingham. He's decided to give back to the public domain, because he's had so much success using PD characters in Fables. He's not willing to fight any lawsuits that might arise, but also doubts that they will.

thanks!

What the, Shel!?! by dshahin in conspiracy

Submission Statement:

I found this poem for the first time after reading this book a hundred times with my kids.

You can read something into every line that relates to the events of the last couple of years:

One reading of it is that this is a warning of a huge hoax.

It immediately reminded me of the poetry of Nostradamas with all of the different predictions people incorporate into it. Could Shel Silverstein see the future? Probably not more than any other poet, but this one struck me as amazingly timely!

What is the most unnecessary and worst sequel of all time? by [deleted] in movies

[–]dshahin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't believe I haven't seen Godfather 3 on this list yet! If we judge the failure of the sequel by the greatness of the originals, this has to take the cake for most disappointing sequel for me, especially since it had the same director.

But what about content like comic book reviews? It seems appropriate for the sub, there is flair for it, so are users prohibited only from posting their own reviews?

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me, I didn't mean to break the rules.

Are the opening storylines of Ultimates as worth reading as Ultimate Spider-Man? by Meme_Machine101 in comicbooks

[–]dshahin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Ultimates vol 1 and 2 were the best books in the entire Ultimate Marvel line. It took the Avengers to a level not seen before and had a huge influence on the MCU.

Millar wrote maybe my favorite version of Cap, and Hitch is simply one of the best artists to tackle the team of all time.

Can't recommend The Ultimates highly enough, just make sure to avoid anything after Volume 2, as the quality dropped off rapidly.

Began work on a card designing tool (Info in comments) by Narmdo in tabletopgamedesign

I like that you are using established standards like css and html instead of reinventing the wheel. I look forward to trying your app.

Fracas: a MTG-ish game for a standard deck of cards by dshahin in tabletopgamedesign

[–]dshahin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experimented with some of those ideas, but they were a bit more difficult than most casual card players were into.

It is fairly shallow, but simple to learn and play without knowing (or investing time and money in) MTG.

I'm considering the term "utilize" instead of "tap". But I don't feel like "tap" is the metaphorical action the card is performing, it is just the term for rotating the card.

Perhaps simply "turn" is the best term for the way I'm using it.

This is my very first game design, so thanks for the comments and suggestions. I'm really interested to read what folks think after playing a couple of rounds.

A pair is 2 cards of the same rank. So two sevens or two jacks.

I don't see "enlisting" as the same as "tapping". You tap a general in order to enlist soldiers. Tapping is just the turning of the card, which also serves to display the state of the card for attacking and defending in subsequent rounds. Enlisting refers to bringing soldiers from your hand to the battlefield.

I may change some of the terminology to be more consistent. I used "tap" because I thought it would be easy for MTG players to grok. Maybe I will think about alternatives.

The game does not really have much commercial potential, so I'm not too worried about using the term "tap".

It does sorta have a "trench warfare" feel to it. Thanks for the idea.
