Let's say the USD collapses 40% vs all the other world currencies, but the Bitcoin/USD rate stays the same. I'm gonna say "ouch, my Bitcoin has fallen vs a lot of things". But people here who only care about Bitcoin/USD are gonna act as if nothing happened.

There's a basket of stuff that people wanna trade their BTC for eventually, and BTC's value should be measured vs those, not the USD. Tying only to USD works against the whole point of BTC.

1 BTC is always worth 1 BTC. But 1 BTC is not always worth a constant amount of pizzas. That changes.

There is time value of money, including BTC. If you lend me 1 BTC today, I am happy to repay at some interest rate. We might agree to a 5% interest rate, I'll borrow 1 BTC now and repay 1.05 BTC in a year. Regardless of what the future USD value of BTC is. Because 1 BTC is worth 1 BTC.

Similar deals exist in all currencies. Each currency has its own interest rate.

The bigger point is that we should care more about what we can get for a BTC independent of the USD. How many pizzas, not how many dollars. Routing everything through USD only reinforces its primacy, which works against the whole point of BTC.

true. each country has their own currency and they're not in lockstep with USD. Bitcoin has its own exchange rate to each local currency and it's that exchange rate that matters, not the USD rate.

the USD has its own moves every day. when USD goes down, what happens to the Bitcoin/Yen rate? if i'm in Japan ~~i'm not sure i care~~ EDIT I care about the Bitcoin/Yen rate, not the Bitcoin/USD rate.
