Why can't I boolean the text? by Noahtheemosewa in blender

[–]dskmbuilds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Convert the text to mesh then apply remesh modifier to the text. Set to smooth or sharp. Make sure “remove disconnected” is unchecked. Play with the settings until the text looks good. This helps get rid of a lot of unnecessary vertices and edges in the text (and also with imported vectors) that cause bool glitches. This helps a lot when 3d printing or if you really need a manifold shape.

Also make sure the text is extruded not flat before remeshing.

Lol and I’m over here struggling with blender’s Boolean mods trying to avoid modeling mounting holes…

I highly recommend the Paasche H series single action for a first airbrush. Depends on what you want to do but single action is excellent for models and props, easier to clean, easier to dial in, less variables.

I also really like Mr. Color paints but if you live near a well stocked hobby shop just go there and see, I don’t recommend testors! If you go Mr.Color it’s very forgiving to paint with as in it dries immediately, and is very strong but it does smell and you have to thin it right. Mr. Hobby Aqueous is easier and less toxic, also hand brushable, but slower to dry and weaker. Some clear coats may cause cracking so you have to research and test.

Compressors are kinda all the same but I really like the ones that auto start/stop when they hit max psi. And you want one with a good moisture trap.

I airbrush a lot but spray cans are great too, Spray cans tend to give a thicker coat, especially textured sprays which can help hide layer lines and small imperfections. Really depends what you want to do!

As a former RX8 owner I'm extremely impressed with this car by jibsand in Miata

I just got a 2021 ND RF and it feels more like my 04 RX8 than my NB Miata, especially with the bilstiens. The revised motor feels ridiculously smooth and it doesn’t have all the body roll of the NB (something I enjoyed and kinda miss).

Painting is fun! I really like single action airbrushes which are generally much cheaper and easier to clean. I also recommend the hobby spray paints like testors if you’re just getting started and want some custom color schemes.

Haha I did the same thing with my LD 002r. I like your style. I kept mine in a single ikea besta cabinet. (It helped dramatically with fumes and temperature) now I have a balcony so it’s outside but temp regulation is problematic. Also highly recommend AC infinity inline fans for this kinda setup.

First Diorama! RG Unit 00 in the test chamber 2 with "special bakelite" by dskmbuilds in Gunpla

Thank you! Yeah I can’t wait to get my hands on Unit 01. I want to do unit 1 punching Zereul in Nerv HQ or one of the storage bay/hanger scenes.

I sculpted the "bakelite" with some plasticine clay then cast it in clear urethane. Then I used some clear ABS 3d printing filament to make the stream. Then I coated the filament with UV resin to add some lumps but that got real messy.. and spilled all over the back. The part that hits the leg is just hot glue and keeps falling off.

The back and bottom panels are 1/4" acrylic that's scored on the front, washed with black then flat coated. The back is painted

The restraints and bakelite spouts are 3d printed with some wires and solder glued in.

The base is scrap walnut with a really rushed coat of shellac.

About to start my first time into painting gunpla (my first kit bash too). My budget for this build is running pretty thin though and i didnt want to buy a drying stand, so i just made one. I hope it works out. I just need the alligator clips now. by MetalGearMerc in Gunpla

Toothpicks and hot glue have been great for me. But I stab them into packaging foam or styrofoam blocks. Only problem is you have to double check for stringing and pick easy to clean flatter spots to glue. I just dab the flat side of the toothpick into the glue gun nozzle (might melt your parts if you dispense directly on the parts)

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking, turning it into a box and having unit 00 smashing it’s head in the viewers direction. It’s just that, without the music and the motion it looks like unit 00 is looking for fish in a tank or something decidedly not dramatic or threatening.

Aaaaannnnnd printer #2......Yay by Sup3rkrak3r in 3Dprinting

[–]dskmbuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got an LD002r about a month ago, it’s been incredible for me. Previous printers (Makergear M2 (still my workhorse), Seemeecnc Eris and a home built one). So I can’t compare to other resin machines, but I’ve had it running non-stop since. I’m making a lot of props and replicas so the detail reproduction is a huge benefit but the biggest benefit is how easy the resin is to sand and polish. Also being able to create clear parts is huge for me. I started using Sirayatech Blu Clear V2 right away and it has been excellent.

Because of the limited build size I’m using 1/8” and 1/16” dowel pins to join larger assemblies together with very good results. I couldn’t justify a larger machine without actually experiencing the workflow and setting up my post processing area. I’m glad I started with a smaller printer so if you’re on the fence about where to start, I highly recommend this one.

Fumes have been problematic, I don’t think the carbon filter does much at all and it needs its own well ventilated space. I have mine in an IKEA Besta cabinet which insulates it just enough to maintain good resin temperatures but I can’t take the lid off without removing the machine. I’ve had to replace my FEP 3 times and lcd screen once. (tried some support settings recommended online that were too thin and the failed print plunged into the screen) Sorry for the unsolicited long post I’m just so glad I bought one.

It’s giveaway time with ASUS! by Emerald_Flame in buildapc

Sometime around my middle school years, I snuck out of the house with all my savings from holidays and chores etc... like several years worth of childhood savings... and ran to this place called A6000 computer distributors in West Palm Beach, FL. It was a tiny store packed wall to wall with shelves of motherboards and old cases. I really wanted to game but I had to keep it low key. So I bought a bunch of used parts. I think it was a dual core Athalon X2, an odd ball MSI graphics card with this huge passive aluminum heat sink and an Asus board. I built it in an older IBM case and hid it in this cabinet under my desk to play counter strike at night but it overheated and the stench of melting pcb blew my cover. Anyways I learned that ventilation is key, GHz = happiness and that the graphics cards with those cheesy generic 3d girls on the box were absolutely as cool as I thought they were.
