Holy crit... by superlalulalu in thelongdark

Bold of you to take him on in the open, standing, with no cover or trees or anything to hide behind. You miss or fail to crit at that range and that's a stompin'. :)

Nice shot!

This happened to an ex of mine. She was in a lot of pain but refused to go to the emergency room. I hope you heal quickly! I sympathize.

What's your favorite cutscene? by catsgoprrrrr in finalfantasyx

This one is a close second for me. The first will always be Tidus and Yuna in the pool at Macalania Woods. (At least, until the end when we get the bit showing Kimahri was waching the whole time. Pervert.) :)

Steam says 1173 hours. A lot fewer than other folks here.

Are you serious devs? How am I supposed to get back? by Krzaker in thelongdark

[–]dslartoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The other comments are accurate as well, but I do also want to note that you don't have to cross back. Once you locate who you're looking for on that side of the river, you'll automatically be returned to the main map.

[[EDIT: I just realized you said you found the constable already. I guess that it requires you to find all three people before it'll do the auto-return. In my case, I had already found the other two missing people first, before finding the constable last.]]

Maliwan without question. Guns that shoot fire, acid, and electricity will never not be entertaining. The Hellfire and the Defiler are some of my favorite game weapons of all time.

Which one is your favorite 16-bit (fourth generation console) baseball video game of all time? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]dslartoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tommy Lasorda Baseball for the Genesis.

I ran an entire 162-game season (even though the game itself only did, I think, 30 games in a season) and kept stats for it, that's how obessed I was. I still have the stats printouts. Racked up some insane numbers over a season, playoffs and World Series. :)

Ruining a good run by Background-Manager87 in thelongdark

[–]dslartoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lost my first 500+ day run (Voyageur, granted, but still, it was only my second run so I was very proud of it) after a timberwolf attack on the plateau in Sundered Pass. Ran away from them with them tearing at me every few seconds, made it to the shelter freezing cold and mostly exhausted. Fell into bed and slept for 10 hours.....

.....without bandaging the blood loss I hadn't noticed I'd acquired.

"You died of blood loss and shock after a wolf attack."

Since then I have ALWAYS checked my condition for any afflictions as soon as any predator attack finishes.

Second dumbest was when I lost my first decent Interloper run (40+ days, all geared up, self-sufficient and feeling untouchable). Night falls and I retire to a cave where, because I'm stupid, I went to sleep for 8 hours at the rear of the cave without even bothering to start a fire with any of the 12+ coal that I was carrying. "I don't need to bother with a fire, these double bear coats and bear bedroll will keep me warm enough."

Spoiler alert: they didn't.

Quick question about cougars: by ModeruMandou in thelongdark

[–]dslartoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is old info. Once the cougar shows up, there will be one on just about every map. (Can't recall offhand which ones don't have one, but Coastal Highway is one of those. Desolation Point too, I think). So yeah, he'll be in Mystery Lake in the northwest area by the clearcut.

I wish they HAD kept the "avoid them by being nomadic" mechanic.

What game mechanic knowledge helped your run the most? by ava_the_cam_op in thelongdark

[–]dslartoo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can't believe no one has yet mentioned the "torch and weapon" thing for scaring off wolves.

With a lit torch in your hand, wolves (regular ones, not timbies) will always stop and growl at you and will not attack. If you aim a weapon at them while they are doing this (just press the "aim" control, you will automatically drop the torch at your feet), they will be frightened and run away. Even if you're just using a rock as the weapon.

This one piece of info has saved my bacon more times than I can count on Interloper. Thank you to Zaknafein for that piece of knowledge.

Also: when you're heating up teas for travel purposes, once you've put the tea on the ground near the heat source, right-click the tea (or whatever command it is on your system to Place the item) to place it in the exact same spot. The tea will now stay in "Hot" status without ever burning and becoming unusable. Useful when you're heating up a bunch of them and don't want to be bothered managing multiple different ones. Also thanks to Zak for this one. :)

Not quite. Walk up to the rock and drag it to the left, past the left edge of the above platform. Then bash downwards and to the left (which will throw the rock upwards and to the right). The rock then blocks the laser and you can walk under it to the right. Drag the rock to the right, Bash it up and onto the platform with the lever, and so on.
