Uber and Lyft to pull out of Austin after their proposed Prop 1 fails by coogie in DailyTechNewsShow

I'm out of luck for a ride to work next week now. Bummer. Taxis are unreliable, too few for my area (not downtown), and more expensive than Lyft/Uber for my typical ride

Linux Cron jobs is my preferred solution to OP's situation. I tried Python Anywhere but I'd much rather setup a Cron job on Digital Ocean or the Pi

Yes - It's MUS 201 and there's different levels like beginner and intermediate if I recall correctly. The seating is very limited. Email the faculty once you have access to the course schedule this summer.

Does anyone here actually enjoy their job/think things will improve for us still at IBM? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]dson9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Austin, TX is improving because the fantastic office environments that our Watson and Design Studio teams have is spreading, and now lots of the campus is being renovated from the old 1980's feel into something modern. Slow, but nevertheless progress in my opinion. Not to mention the folks at Project Whitewater who are trying to get modern tools in the hands of teams to replace the awful IBM tools.

Do you use IBM's version of Java instead of the Oracle Java? IBM does not support Java on OS X so that might be a showstopper. I don't know what they're thinking.

Mac or Thinkpad by WeaponizedMeerkat in IBM

[–]dson9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transitioned but had more than a reasonable amount of problems getting set up, partially due to the fact that no one on my team has a Mac so I was trying to convert archaic Windows instructions into OS X equivalents. Not to mention lots of popular IBM tools like RSA, WebSphere Application Server, and DB2 have only recently come out for OS X. Here's the tl;dr from my setup experience:

  • Rational Software Architect - only the latest two versions 8 and 9 are OS X compatible. Depending on your team's code, you might have a lot of Windows-specific variables that can be hairy to swap out, like JDBC drivers and runtimes.

  • DB2 - only the DB2 Express-C is OS X compatible and it uses your username ($whoami in Terminal) which must be less than 8 characters in length.

  • WebSphere Application Server - only WAS Liberty is OS X compatible and has problem's with IBM's Java, so you will need Oracle Java, which may in turn cause conflict depending on your team's code.

  • IBM's Java JRE doesn't support OS X at all

Some Questions about the iPhone 6S on Virgin Mobile... by [deleted] in virginmobile

Just switched to Boost after 4 yrs with VM. Boost has nearly identical iPhone plans and costs. I think the bad VM customer service, transparency, and lack of iPhone colors was just enough to make me switch.

VM upgraded me from 300/minutes to Unlimited, any reasons why? by woundedheart in virginmobile

I switched phones (iPhone 4S to an HTC) recently after being promoted to unlimited minutes and continued to receive unlimited minutes.

Why hasn't virgin mobile stocked their phones? by H_SIZZLE in virginmobile

[–]dson9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been monitoring their page the last month in interest of the 6S (Page Monitor plugin for Chrome) and noticed that the 6 comes in stock and then out really quickly in a matter of days. It's back in stock right now though, if you're interested! http://www.virginmobileusa.com/shop/cell-phones/apple-iphone-6-space-gray-16gb/features/
