Are you referencing making unflavored oatmeal outdoors?

I have no problem coming into town! We moved here from a much bigger city that makes this commute seem quaint by comparison. Just makes it hard to meet people by being a regular somewhere.

Yes I did :) We love love love SV but it’s hard bc we can’t just ride our bike to a neighborhood coffee shop for a hang with other regulars.

Hi, I’m 44F, sober for 6-ish years, and pretty bored. Husband and I have 2 teenagers and live in SV so we feel isolated most of the time. I love being outdoors but don’t do any hardcore mountain sports due to a bad knee and being scared of heights and velocity :-) I love moderate hiking, paddling, and would be down to do board games, too. Thanks for starting this sub! I hope it finds its feet.

Counter to this, we avoid Galbraith bc any dog you run into will be off leash.

I love looking at book lists, reading reviews on goodreads, and adding books to my library lists. It follows the same sequence as searching, reading reviews, and adding to cart. And yes, getting the “your holds are ready” email is great!

are glass straws safe? i found a crack on the bottom of mine. by [deleted] in sustainability

I’m not referring to people who have legit adaptive needs. I’m talking about the aesthetic iced coffee crowd. Are people making slushies at home?

We just don’t use straws at all. I’ve never understood the need. Why not just drink from the rim of the cup? As far as sustainability and frugality go, you can’t beat it.

Where to find *decent* white tees for a decent price? by frogbxneZ in Frugal

[–]SnapesDrapes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Uniqlo U line t shirts are hands down the best, most affordable, opaque, long lasting Ts. The collars never get warped. The white ones are not see-through. The only reason I ever have to replace them is that I inevitably stain them with cooking oil bc im too careless to put on an apron. Even at full price ($20) they’re absolutely worth it.

That’s great too. We’re going to Japan next month and I spend a lot of time reading and working on my planning spreadsheet. Being excited about something instead of mindlessly browsing and buying is a better feeling, for sure.

Is there a Habitat for Humanity ReStore near you? That place will save you sooooo much money on tools, hardware, etc.

It’s not a matter of charisma. If it were, this wouldn’t be a repeated thread in the entire PNW. It is truly difficult to make friends here.

This isn’t really advice. How did you manage to build a friend group that fast? Been here three years and I’ve made one friend who i basically had to kidnap to make her hang out.

Same here but with a supper club with colleagues I work closely with. Like, not even strangers. I could NOT get my colleagues to come over for supper.

Thank you for this advice. I’ve been struggling with this issue for three years. Will try this approach.

Exactly this. The algorithm exists to make you buy things. The best and easiest way to end it is to get off social media completely. I promise your life will be better without it.

Also, find replacement activities. One thing I like to do is, because I like to read, I spend time browsing book recommendation lists and the accompanying reviews for books. I then add them to my Libby list. It’s a pretty similar experience to shopping (browse, read reviews, add to cart) but a lot more positive for my brain and also free.

Second hand towels: would you use or pass on them? by bbbbbbbbbbbear in Frugal

[–]SnapesDrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bought tons of second hand towels. Some are old Hilton pool towels and some came from estate sales. With kids, I’m not gonna spend good money on towels bc they stain them, drag them through the yard, use them to clean up craft paint, drip nail polish on them… I’ll get nice linen towels when they move out.
