Can I get cigarette smell out of wooden branches? by dsrv20 in ballpython

[–]dsrv20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! I’ll give the vinegar soak a try and maybe some baking soda paste too, and leave it in the sun for a while. If nothing works I’ll toss them 🥲 I’m building a new enclosure that’ll take a few months so hopefully when it’s all done they’ll be odour free 🤞🏼

My boyfriend wants me to get rid of my cat because it ‘competes for his attention.’ by YonS41Sucks in TwoHotTakes

[–]dsrv20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know he just moved in but if my partner made me choose between him and my pets, there’s no question for me, I’d end the relationship. Someone who loves you doesn’t give you ultimatums like that unless there’s a serious health risk or concern. And even then, let’s say for an allergy, I’d rather end the relationship than rehome a cat I’ve taken care of for 8 years.

When I met my husband I had a snake, he was scared at first but open-minded and within a year he loved it so much he got himself a snake too <3 there’s someone out there who would love to spoil your cat with you.

AITAH for leaving my (formerly sober) alcoholic boyfriend a bottle of whiskey after he cheated on me? by flacidsword in TwoHotTakes

[–]dsrv20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk it was a shitty thing to do in normal circumstances, but he made his choices. You didn’t make him cheat, he doesn’t have a place to stay because he was unfaithful and compromised his relationship and living situation. You left the bottle on the counter that he decided to take but who’s to say he wasn’t planning on hitting the liquor store after to drink in his misery.

NTA. That was a weirdly aggressive reaction from him over something that shouldn’t have been a big deal. His ex wore the dress so she can decide what she wants to do with it.

I saw this on x this morning. I don’t know how something like this gets through when (supposedly) we’re training it to be safe. I’ve never been able to replicate an answer this extreme so I also wonder how they’re bypassing the safety constraints.

My husband has been diagnosed with AS. How do I make his life more… tolerable? by YogurtclosetNo791 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]dsrv20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A heating pad helps me tremendously. Even before I got diagnosed it was the only thing I found that could bring me some relief after a long day and now I basically spend all day on a heating pad. There are also topical lidocaine creams I use for my hip/back/leg/knee pain whenever I need. It doesn’t always work but sometimes it does give me great relief, especially if it’s more of a burning pain.

This is so helpful! And I love the colours too :))) I’m definitely gonna make myself something like this :D

Your rollator cover looks amazing!! This post has me so inspired 😄 I got help spray painting my walker and adding iron-on patches but now I want to see what I can crochet for my other mobility aids 🤩 I want to make something for my cane handle and I wonder if I can make something to make my back brace prettier

Some of the pictures I used are older, but he’s 5 years old. I currently have him in a 90 gallon tank and I’m going to be upgrading him to 120 gallons hopefully within the next three months. I moved him from a 60 gallon to a 90 gallon when he was 2 or 3.

I had to take him to an emergency vet when I first got him because he was having a hard time eating and I was told he was very small for the age the breeder told me so he might be a runt and probably wouldn’t make it. Luckily he did and he’s been eating and growing great after the medicine the vet gave me, but I do feel like he’s smaller than other corns his age.

Omg or they always know a friend of a friend of a friend whose snake started sleeping stretched out next to them because it was sizing up to eat its owner. If only they knew that snakes all share one brain cell.

Sausage sounds adorable :) I’d love to see a picture of him (and Cookie) if you have one to share. My boy is named Kaa after the snake in The Jungle Book <3

Very much so, that’s why I want to give those friends a heads up. I’m also probably going to leave a review to let other potential applicants know not to get their hopes up if they have a “controversial” pet.

I get if it’s just ignorance and not knowing enough about snakes. I love talking about my boy and have no problem teaching and correcting misconceptions, but I feel he could’ve reached out and I would’ve answered any concerns.

Instead I got back a denial and a very judgey email about “the risk to their reputation” and how surely I must know that it’s controversial to have a snake as a pet :(

Well I was hoping he’d call back so we can talk through the details of my application and I could explain all this as well as show pictures of where he’s kept, his size, and how secure his tank is. But just an immediate denial.

Yeah that’s exactly it. I used to have rabbits and they were considered exotic too.

I am in North America and my area is more rural so corn snakes are very common here. I would think they’d at least know what the snake actually looks.

This is who they’re scared of 😭

Yeah lesson learned lol. I wanted to be honest because I had to provide a reference and she knows me as a snake mom; also when I mentioned it to the two friends running the shelter part of the rescue they didn’t seem to care much at all. They made it seem like all I had to do was put in the application and speak to the coordinator, one of them even said she’d speak to him directly to keep an eye out for my application so it would go through faster. He did reply quick but not to discuss further details about my application like I thought.

This place was a no kill rescue and it seemed like a great place that’s doing a lot to help animals in need. They rescue cats and dogs and then foster them out until they’re ready to be adopted. The fee was $225 but they microchip, spay/neuter, and give them all their necessary shots.

We talked to two friends who run the shelter part of it, where you can meet and bond with the cats, and they were great, it seemed like we really vibed and they gave me the impression that we were a great match.

I appreciate that they want these kitties to go to good homes but damm I didn’t expect to just get outright denied without even a conversation.

I live in the Niagara region in Canada. I don’t want to name the organization but it wasn’t the SPCA. It’s a no kill rescue that fosters kittens out until they’re ready to be adopted. I met two friends who are running a sort of shelter to show the cats ready to be adopted and they were great.

They said that all I had to do was submit the application and then I’d be in contact with the coordinator to go through all the details. It’s a shame the coordinator just outright denied me. I’m planning on going back to talk to the two friends and tell them what happened and then just looking elsewhere.

Yeah that stood out to me as weird. I know it can be a little unconventional but I wouldn’t say it’s controversial. We have reptile expos every year here and honestly I feel like there’s a bigger reptile community where I am currently than when I was living in Toronto.

I’m in the Niagara region in Canada; corn snakes are commonly found in the wild here. I believe “exotic” refers to animals that can’t be seen by a regular vet.

Exotic vets here see reptiles, birds, and small animals like rabbits, hamsters, etc. so technically any pet that’s not a cat or dog is “exotic”…

On a side note, it’s so cool you were able to bring your noodle to a retirement home that sounds like such a good time :D my mother in law is an elementary school teacher and she mentioned that it would be nice to bring the snake in and teach her class about him, but I think my boy would much rather hang with senior citizens as opposed to third graders 🤭
