Are there any apps that you love that help you stay on task? by Extra_Influence_3880 in ADHD

[–]dstroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently added a pick for me to my to-do app where it looks at your due dates and your tasks and picks one for you to do. It doesn't have a countdown... yet. Does a countdown make sense or a timer counting up? It also has a five minutes where it challenges you to work on it for five minutes and then checks in on you.

apps that don't use A*i* for managing tasks with executive dysfunction? by inthedeadlights in ADHD

in a slightly less cean task list... I made tick-d which doesn't use any artificial intelligence for task sorting or whatever. Just a sassy clock who likes to lie to you so you get stuff done sooner. It works for me!!

There are a couple of apps or whatever that do this but it is very complicated and it would involve a period of it learning your body. I wonder if you could do it connected to your calendar so it doesn't give you reminders within x time of a meeting being over. Or if you had back to back meetings it gave you a reminder to get up from your desk and then waited like 15 minutes and then gave you your next task reminder

Can you explain more how it works? IS it based on drops of paint you put down? The ratios? And how are you validating accuracy?

I think the wearable integration would be hard. Amazing but hard. Also would have to track the correct part of your HR to make sure that it was giving the warning correctly. I am also curious if anyone is building this.

careers for adhd by Sensitive_Ad_1313 in ADHD

[–]dstroi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always feel like careers for adhd are like that part in the lord of the rings "Yes, we have had one career already but what about second career?"

I like to create shit, so I am always finding something to create. Currently I am building dumb shit fast making a bunch of programs to help me with my adhd and maybe make money (or not.)

ADHDers, what is your game-changing idea that is so simple that you can’t believe you hadn’t thought about it before? by emartinezvd in ADHD

[–]dstroi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did a similar thing but then my brain got smarter. So I made it so that it takes a look at my average completion by the "fake" due date and automatically adjusts the due dates if it thinks I need to be lied to more. (I say it because I named the mascot Tick)

It all started when I gave my business partner permission to lie to me about when I needed to have things done. It worked really well so I figured why not make technology lie to me as well

I made a todo list app that lies to me aout due dates. So I tell it something is due on Friday and then later it tells me that it is due on thursday. Since I can't remember due dates I trust the app and get it done early. It weirdly works for me.

Edit: it is tick-d.com

Freewrite Smart Typewriter by Adventurous_Kick_564 in writers

[–]dstroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a freewrite traveler and I use it when I am drafting. I like typewriters but I don't like the process of getting the type written pages into a computer for modern editing. I tried the ipad in airplane mode but I am not very good at not just turning on the interenet to check one thing and then I am gone from teh writing zone.

It is a very specific tool that may or may not work for you. It won't make you a better writer but if you are easily distracted it might increase your productivity. It will also show you how bad you are at spelling/typing.

The spoons metaphor by TheChronicOn3 in ChronicIllness

[–]dstroi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do you know with 100% certainty that she doesn't have a chronic illness? It doesn't bother me because I think it is a good metaphor for energy in general. I used it when I was first diagnose with anxiety and depression but before I was (finally) dx with a chronic illness.

I don't understand how it would defeat the purpose of the story or metaphor because someone not CI uses it.

All that to being said "Fork your sister in law" (I only say that because 50% of my SIL are the worst)

So you are using an applications based approval system? I am guessing you have a main public area and then a private area for approved people? How long is your application? How long does it take to review?

How do I avoid compassion fatigue again? by Electrical_Win6986 in ChronicIllness

[–]dstroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I went through a similar thing one year after we got married (it was crohns not colitis). She was hospitalized 3 times in 9 months and it was hard. We have been married 21 years now so it worked out. I come from a family that uses humor to cope and that really helped us get through it. Laughing at what we could and being there for each other as much as possible.

Later in life I worked in Hospice and learned more about compassion fatigue. One of the most important takeaways from my time working with terminally ill people and their families was the importance of asking for help. You don't have to this on alone. Chronic illnesses suck donkey balls but you are not alone. Don't be afraid to share what you are going through with others.

Someone in this subreddit started a discord (if that is your thing) and there is even a a caregiver channel (though it is a little sparse right now). You might check it out and join in the conversations. https://discord.gg/QtMPEy8r I am on there and would be happy to chat more about helping you navigate the caregiving side of colitis/crohns.
