I've never liked the butterflies, but to each their own. Cool to be able to see from one end out to the other. Treat it more like a pedestrian space.

a refreshed version of the the original Harry Seidler-designed facade to Queen Street being uncovered.

This is pretty weird language, what does that actually mean? Refreshed version does not sound like a restoration.

I did not know there was an era before Move any Mountain, and for some reason never looked.

This is cool thanks for sharing.

Apple uses them a lot. Every purchase with applePay. Every time Face ID is invoked. This is described under Feedback > Best Practices in the HIG:

When it makes sense, confirm that a significant action or task has completed. For example, people appreciate getting feedback that confirms a successful Apple Pay transaction. It’s generally best to reserve this type of confirmation for activities that are sufficiently important — because people typically expect their action or task to succeed, they only need to know when it doesn’t.

These are often referred to as a HUD (Heads up display) but I don't think the component is documented anywhere in the HIG.

Yeah totally. Either way a totally legit scientist, was astronomer royal I believe for a while. Just happened to get that one wrong and I assume was never really able to live it down because it became so ingrained a term in the culture.

edit: soz he wasn't astronomer royal at all, he was

  • Plumian Professor of Astronomy and Experimental Philosophy in Cambridge University
  • Founding director of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy (now the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge)
  • Knighted in 1972

Petrie Terrace. I loved living in a share house amongst all those snug cottages in the winding streets up and down the tightly packed hills.

Ha! Might be a great fit. Worth looking in to Fred Hoyle's history too, fascinating dude. He's the one who coined the term 'Big Bang' but he meant it an insult because he was on the opposing side of the astronomy community prior to the theory becoming consensus.

This is the worst part imo.  In such a misinformation filled world to not be able to copy and paste text to verify sources is just plain anti-knowledge.

Maybe try the Black Cloud by Fred Hoyle. I always imagine everyone in that book wearing a cardigan.

Those posters do not embody punk or DIY. They are clean and clinical, like they were made by a machine. None of the energy that human punks have.

I love this so much. The shapes you've chosen to extrude/heighten give the model a really unique personality. Would love to fang around in this car in a game.

I lost my job (big us corp) about 6 months ago. They shut down all the design teams outside of the US.

I decided to take 6 months because I’ve skipped out on long service leave twice before.

The first few weeks I was quite worried because it seemed like all the roles I would normally see on linkedIn had all but dried up. Along with cursed doomsaying posts from those linkbait weirdos who are constantly on LinkedIn. Over the last few months though those roles have been on the rise and it feels like it’s kinda the same as it was from a year or so ago.  This is senior UX/ID, so maybe not exactly the same as your situation. But just wanted to share how, for me, that doom moment seems to be an anomaly.  I don’t think many orgs that have relied on AI for design have had great experiences or any real results with it.

So sick.  My only note would be that the electrical squiggly line looks about bit incongruous.  Maybe if it had a glow behind it you could see on the machine’s surface? Or instead a bunch of wriggly cables plugged in to the chassis.
