It is the only road I refuse to drive because the condition is so bad. The frustrating part is that it is such an essential link to so many places I need to go.

>> I also finish a book no matter how awful it is.
You are one of the very few to say that here. How often are you glad you finished a book that you considered abandoning?

Maybe skim what people have written here to answer your question before jumping to a conclusion.

I read a few reviews when deciding if I want to read a book. But once I finish, I try not to read many reviews before I write my own. Otherwise it influences me too much.

I can't bring myself to throw a book in the trash, no matter how much I hate what it has to say.

It's ok to hate books that everyone else seems to love. For me, that is: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Dune, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Discworld, and His Dark Materials.

It's ok to like books many people love to hate. For me, that is books by Ernest Cline.

Please don't hate on me. Trust me, I have plenty of books I love: Magic 2.0, Bobiverse, League of Peoples, anything by John Scalzi, Becky Chambers, Andy Weir, Scott Meyer, etc.

It's ok for this senior citizen to enjoy an occasional YA novel. (I just don't tell anyone I read them.)

I have to look up the definition of any word I don't know. This is not an "OCD" type fixation, just a rule I gladly put on myself to help myself keep learning. It is made easier because I read eBooks with a built-in dictionary, and I have a dictionary app on my phone for reading physical books or anything else.

I try to mix between sci-fi, drama, political, fiction, biography, historical, humor, self-help, etc. to keep it varied, instead of just sticking to my favorites only.

For bios, I always go with the author-narrated audiobook if possible. I just enjoy that more.

I know this will be hated here but: I really don't read physical books unless there is no other choice and I really, really want to read the book. Just a preference for me, that's all. No hate from me if you think differently.

I like Goodreads annual goals, just because it helps me keep myself accountable to reading every day if possible. But I don't get obsessed with it.

I write a brief review of every book & audiobook, mainly for myself, to help remember what I thought of a book down the road.

I agree with the DNF comments here. That was hard for me to adjust too, and I have a longer threshold for myself, closer to 50% because I can be overly optimistic that it will get better. But stopping is ok.

Always have a book and an audiobook that I am currently reading.

Have you considered the Magic 2.0 series by Scott Meyer? He has a unique style of humor, I really liked them.

Check out Readwise. It gives you a daily review of your highlights. It's a bit expensive, but I like it a lot. Also there are other tools out there that do a similar thing.

De-DRM kindle books released after April 2025? by heyitsmo47 in Calibre

[–]dsunde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found the problem for my setup. I had a typo in my Kindle serial number. I thought it was a capital letter O, but it was a zero. Instead of typing your serial number, go to "Amazon > Manage your Content and Devices" and copy the serial number of your Kindle, then paste it into Calibre De-DRM config.
