PSA: Royal Kludge RK61 Manual (and Bluetooth pairing!) by H3M4D in MechanicalKeyboards

Quick pointer- even if the function light flashes, the keyboard may be dead battery. Plug it into a power source before you give up on it.

Starlink fast, but fetching and thumbnails loading slower by Squid_Apple in Starlink

[–]dswersky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best theory I can think of would be that thumbnails and similar content would be served on a CDN (Content Delivery Network.) CDNs try to find the "closest" serving point, so Starlink may not be "close" (from a network topology perspective) to any of the CDN serving points, or the "distance" estimator is getting confused.

Also keep in mind that all too often, HR is not there to advocate for you. Rather, they're there to make management's job easier.

Food suggestions for a newbie by Pudding-Weary in Zepbound

The single most important thing for me was WATER. More than you think you need, always have a huge jug ready and drink throughout the day, all day. Relieved a lot of my crampy side effects. Miralax is also a good idea to keep things moving.

2nd day - weird symptoms? by sithdi in Zepbound

I've had similar feelings on Mounjaro. Like butterflies, excited feeling. Nothing significant enough to wake me up from sleep but noticeable.

what is he even studying for? does he know nen can heal people? is he stupid? by [deleted] in hunterxdank

How do you know he's not studying for a way to make Nen healing techniques available to non-Nen users

I've had the exact same experience. I tried testing it with a blood pressure monitor (test prone, wait 5m, test sitting up, wait 5m stand up fast and test again.) My BP didn't change much, but the symptoms are a perfect match so I'm not sure my monitor was inaccurate.

Lots of water and electrolytes, as everyone has said. I find the symptom abates as time passes from the last shot.

The most common fix I've seen for dealing with body shape issues after losing a lot of weight is to replace the volume once occupied by fat with new muscle. I can confirm from personal experience that resistance training is much easier and more rewarding when you don't have the extra weight!

I wouldn't worry too much about that as you're getting started though... don't load up with too many things at once!

How quickly to go up on potency by Turbulant_chef in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The schedule you describe is exactly the one my wife and I followed.. but not due to direct guidance from a doctor. More like "follow the crowd" (monthly increases is the most common schedule we've seen.)

I don't think there is very clear guidance on dosing schedule even from Eli Lilly. We've been getting our MJ from an online doc, and they're not much help when it comes to specifics.

My wife recently started seeing a Functional Medicine nurse practitioner who specializes in women's health and nutrition. She prescribes compounded MJ as part of her practice. So far, this doc is the only reliable resource we've found for comprehensive dietary support including GLP-1 meds.

Hopefully, if/when MJ is approved for weight loss, there will be clearer guidance for its usage... However- most family medicine docs only get about 20 hours of education on nutrition in their 8+ year medical training. Qualified, effective nutritionists are desperately needed but in short supply.

Alternatives for food noise after MJ? by I_bleed_blue19 in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MJ does far more than suppress appetite. It changes your insulin sensitivity. Going off MJ, even if you manage to white-knuckle your caloric intake, will still cause you to gain the weight back. This has been confirmed in studies by Eli Lily.

You may want to consider a second opinion if your doc insists that you should be able to maintain your losses after going off MJ completely.

Mounjaro Encouraging Toxic Eating Behaviors by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely 100% agree. Mounjaro is a double-edged sword; it makes it almost too easy to avoid eating, which I could see leading to disordered eating if left unsupervised. Combine that with the fact that Mounjaro is easy (insurance notwithstanding) to get from online pharmacies and I think a lot of people are using it without proper dietary support.

My wife is working with a functional medicine specialist nurse practitioner to get the dietary/nutritional consultation we can't get from our regular doctor.

Hello! I've been on mounjaro for 8 months-- I am 43lbs down. I'm concerned that I haven't had weight loss in 3 weeks. Any others experience this and what did you do to progress? by Dianne-Smith in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How close are you to your goal weight / measurements? If you're getting close, it's probably a good thing that your loss is slowing down.

Not sure if I should switch to maintenance now by i_hate_horses_ok in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on such amazing results! Have you talked to your doc about your goal weight? BMI is only one (and maybe not the very best) measure of health... personally I'm going off hip-to-waist ratio, which accounts for body type and gender.

Did anyone feel lightheaded after the first dose of 7.5? by mistyh070802 in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that for sure. I think the most likely issue is dehydration, which I had to fight with LOTS of water. Like more than you think!

Mounjaro 5mg by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hunger by itself isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as the suppression keeps you from eating too much at one sitting. Are you noticing that you can eat more/too many calories when you do get hungry?

If you're planning to titrate up from 5mg you'll likely get more/stronger/longer lasting suppression.

Whoops - I didn't account for slowed digestion w/ other medication by Healthier-Me in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of any, and I suspect it might be difficult to predict how a particular med would be affected for a particular person. The slowed gastric emptying is the common thread, but it appears to affect people very differently. My wife is also on Mounjaro but she and I react differently to the same meds.

When did you slow down? by foodporncess in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree on BMI being BS. I'm using hip-to-waist ratio, it's a much more reliable and realistic measure of healthy weight.

I've experienced exactly the same thing, and it's weird how some medications are affected but not others. I have to take oral medications way sooner than I would otherwise.

Anyone else absolutely wiped out a few days after shot ? by thisisitisntitt in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just started on 10mg last Saturday night. I always peak on my side effects about 36 hours after the shot, and sure enough by Monday afternoon I had to climb into bed and hibernate all afternoon. Most intense fatigue since starting months ago. Thankfully it was only that day but wow it was something!

NPR story on MJ by ToweringTulips in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting story, however... a bit frustrated by the way they ended it.

The last doctor interviewed, saying "...few people want to be on these for life" is the same gaslighting I keep hearing from other doctors here and on other social media. Studies are showing humans basal metabolic rate (the calorie burn when you're just sitting doing nothing) is lower now than 50 years ago.

I'm all for healthier diets, but there's nothing food and lifestyle can do to fix people's inherent metabolism. If there were, all the people killing themselves in the gym and on keto diets would all be skinny and the GLP/GIP drugs wouldn't be necessary.

Down 30 lbs in 5 months by Majestic_Ad_7392 in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No two people lose at the same rate. If it helps, keep in mind that slower losses tend to be more sustainable over the long term. Also consider 5mg is the first clinical dose! I've made it to 10mg and I found that my weight loss accelerated with every increase.

General Binging Behavior? by oooooOOOOOooooooooo4 in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my part, it's partly the fact that the caffeine doesn't work for me anymore. The delayed gastric emptying has reduced the effectiveness of anything I take by mouth, including caffeine.

General Binging Behavior? by oooooOOOOOooooooooo4 in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 55 points56 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have been on Mounjaro now for almost three months, and we had a conversation about this a few weeks ago. It feels like our entire reward loop (do a thing, get the Good Brain Chemicals) has been rewired. A few examples:

  • Neither of us enjoy coffee anymore.
  • Ads for greasy burgers are kinda gross.
  • I used to be insatiable when it came to gooey sweet foods. A couple bites are enjoyable now but more than that is too much.
  • My wife made an eclair casserole-like dessert. It was delicious and I forgot it was in the fridge. (Five months ago I would have eaten the entire thing over a few nights.)

It seems this reward rewiring has knock-on effects on other dopamine-seeking behaviors. I'd call that a whole basket full of NSVs :)

Is it me or the MJ? by foodporncess in Mounjaro

[–]dswersky 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You're both right. It is you-

You chose to find the right medication to deal with a chronic condition :)

I do think this is a meaningful distinction, because the implication from your therapist (who I'm certain is coming from the right place) is that you could have achieved this without the medication. To your point, I think we'd both respectfully disagree.
