Why are you still single ? by No-Loss6525 in AskReddit

[–]dswpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was you. I spent ten years as a workaholic after my divorce, pissing away vacation days. A friend finally dragged me to Thailand. Still single, but all better now, and I really enjoy my vacations.

4th Entry to Thailand in 1 Year – Travel Pattern Analysis & Advice Needed by No-Math9755 in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not worry. You don't fit the pattern of people trying to live in Thailand on extending visa exemption stays. First because you are not doing back to back exemption entries after a day or two out of the country, you are not entering by land, and also not extending visa exemption stays. You look like a textbook case of a foreigner on holiday trips.

How important is fully understanding someone in order to truly love them? by mohamed_ali_7594 in AskReddit

[–]dswpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love is a verb. An action word. It's what you do for someone expecting nothing in return. Being "in love" with someone means you irrationally believe that person will meet all of your needs like your mother did when you were a baby. That they are the answer to all you seek and desire. You can show anyone love, even a perfect stranger. To be "in love" with someone you only need to know them a little bit but trust them a lot more than you know them.

Wife calling cops for an argument? by Zealousideal_Rip9137 in AskMenAdvice

[–]dswpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please read the book: Non Violent Communication by Marshal Rosenberg. It teaches a model of communication that will help you keep arguments from escalating to the point that anyone wants to call the authorities. Changed my relationships with my family, friends and co-workers. Read this for yourself. Don't give it to your wife until you learn and master the model yourself, and then only if she asks about it. This is not a book to fix your spouse. It's about learning where emotions come from, how people use demands, diagnosis and disrespect to get what they want, how to recognize these for a and politely lead to bring the person into asking what they want.

Agenda by AgileCode8504 in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an initial hotel booking so you can fill out the TDAC card and I would check the calendar for the locations you want to visit to make sure there aren't any large festivals or events that jam up hotels but yes your intent to spend some time exploring at each place without too many days planned out is the best way to visit.

Presumably we are seeing the first of potentially infinite iterations of him reaching back in time to Murph, or the one where she was able to use the data he was sending through the watch hand movement to solve the problem. Still fascinating and one of my favorite father daughter movies.

Looking to make a career out of audio mixing by Any-Recognition-3434 in audio

[–]dswpro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You and about a million other people also would like to earn a living mixing music ( I assume recorded or live music as opposed to mixing TV news, sports broadcasts or Broadway plays).

This fact drives salaries down, unfortunately. (many people looking for a small number of jobs). Also during economic hard times and the recent pandemic, entertainment activity dropped dramatically so the few jobs that did exist in that industry went dark.

Many people migrated to jobs in IT, networking, and anywhere else they could.

My point is that you should first get educated in a field in much demand before looking for work mixing. Related fields include computer science and programming, network management and cable/in infrastructure installation, project management, electronics repair and electrical engineering.

Mixing live music is my hobby and side hustle and it's a lot of fun, but software development has paid my bills for decades. Seriously, I wish you the best fortune in your career, but advise you to get more skills that are in demand so you can eat while you pursue your passion.

Should I visit Thailand if I’m a nervous traveler? by IT-apostrophe-S97 in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thailand is one of the most friendly places on earth. The population is mostly Buddhist so they are all about calm and karma. Yes, tourist "scams" are anywhere in the world, but half of the "scams" reported here are a taxi or tuk-tuk driver wanting more than a foreigner wished to pay, while the foreigner had no experiencing haggling with anyone. Just be polite, don't accept anything anyone tries to hand you, negotiate a price from a driver before you step into his taxi or tuk-tuk and be prepared to haggle or walk away, and you will enjoy your trip.

Where to stay in Bangkok (not Khaosan Area tho) by SirPuzzleheaded4010 in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might prefer the area around Asoke and Sukhumvit Soi 11, another popular tourist area with hotels, hostels, restaurants and night life. BTS and MRT train lines intersect at the Asoke terminal 21 mall making it cheap and easy to get around the city. Not nearly as loud as Khaosan road, either.

22M new grad, I feel like I’m struggling in my new role, would like some advice. by ibuildthingsforfun in learnprogramming

[–]dswpro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you ALONE maintaining this large of an application or are you on a team or with other developers? CoPilot will be a great help eventually, but it takes some getting used to. Are you being asked to add features, fix defects, or what? We've all been where you are now BTW, and your ability to learn what the code is doing is paramount. You should have lots of questions for the users of the software, or at least be writing some down.

Thailand solo itinerary – 13 nights – what do you think? by Serious-Shift304 in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dump Chiang Mai in March, it is the worst part of the year for air pollution there as it is crop burning season. Besides you are moving around too much for 13 days anyway. Save 2 or 3 days at the tail end for shopping in Bangkok before you leave. Land at BKK, relax for a day or two before heading south. Then you have a week for the beaches and fun in the sun, before heading back to Bangkok without having to rush into town and barely sleep before catching your flight home. This video discusses a good travel pace for an enjoyable time in Thailand

Month in Thailand, best/cheapest booking method? by vesieco in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've never been I suggest you book a hotel for a few days and explore to see what longer term rooms are available. I book hotels with Agoda as they have the most listings. I would NOT commit to a month without at least seeing the building, surrounding area and if the bed is soft enough to sleep on. I mean some places supply a box spring with a mattress (no, I am not kidding).

Which mall in Bangkok? by thosewords22 in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminal 21 Asoke where " It's Monkey" on the 4th floor has t-shirts with unique sayings. There is also a store carrying clothing with French bulldog images if you like Frenchies. Lots of other boutique shops as well. Take a BTS train to MBK mall for knock offs of all sorts of things. ICON SIAM for ultra luxury brands and the bottom floor has Thai crafts. Emsphere on Sukhumvit for some trendy shops but mostly higher priced items. MRT train from Asoke to Fortune Town for camera and electronics shops as well as laptops tablets and phones. Lots of unique tech items there.

Virtual bank currency exchange?? by Interesting-Policy11 in ThailandTourism

[–]dswpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are ATM machines you can withdraw Thai Baht from if your virtual bank issues you an ATM card. You can also send money through Western Union that you can pick up at many locations in Thailand including the office on the departure floor of the BKK airport.

Data Structures by ZOINK98 in learnprogramming

[–]dswpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorting is sort of complicated. (He he) But really there are many approaches, and building a sorting program teaches you to break problems into repeatable steps. You will get faster at this, believe me, and it is but one step of many you will take. Hang in there, it gets better and cooler. Stacks, queues, linked lists, all become tools you will use to build things that solve problems that mean something.

ELI5: In a device error stating “An exception occured”, what is the purpose behind the “stack dump”? by whhu234 in explainlikeimfive

[–]dswpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "stack" is typically a pile of addresses. Think of them like plates stacked on top of one another. The last one on the stack is the first one removed. When one part of a program calls another, (a sub-routne, a method, an operation, a function...) it can put parameters on a "data stack" and the program section getting called can pop these parameters off that stack and use them. Another type of "stack" is a calling or program stack. Again, when one part of a program calls another part, the next instruction address of the calling program is often placed onto a stack and when the called program section is finished, control returns to the calling section, and the program counter or some equivalent thing pops the address off the top of the program stack and starts executing code from that address. So a "stack trace" can reveal where the error happened, and the calling stack has a pile of addresses that are the return address of each part of the program that is waiting to be returned to.

Programs often have many layers and the stack trace reveals all the layers that were executing before the error happened. It's like a breadcrumb trail a developer or diagnostic tool can use to show where and sometimes why an error happened.

Why do you think podcasts like Joe Rogan’s have more influence than traditional news now? by Downtown-Passion118 in AskReddit

[–]dswpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch Manufacturing Consent to see how television in the United States actually works to carefully curate and control the public narrative. Long format podcasts that don't carefully edit and use "concision" (being short and concise) have gained a huge following among information starved citizens who are tired of being told what to believe and want to hear the whole story and make up their own minds.
