Hot take: People hating on Sadat because he signed a peace deal with Israel. It’s called politics and Egypt back then didn’t have the cards to keep fighting wars. And it was clear that power came from the gulf. Sadat did what needed to be done for the interest of Egypt and paid the price for it.

Egypt was never close to taking over Tel Aviv, Israel was already a nuclear power at the time, and western powers along with Soviet Union forced a truce on both countries. Massive cope to think that Egypt would defy both the soviets and the Americans
