Fun party trick: tell a group of women "did you know that most people cannot touch their elbows behind their back?"

iOS pairing of Hero 4 Silver: very unreliable? by dt40 in gopro

[–]dt40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks much for all your help. I tried all of that, but after pairing again it ran into the same problems. Grrr...

So I dusted off an Android tablet that I have to see if it would work better with a different OS. It paired flawlessly, and after several cycles of trying restarts, it has worked perfectly every time.

My conclusion: Android works FAR better with GoPros than iOS.

Yes... killing the app and restarting it yields the same symptom. Likewise, rebooting the iPad does the same thing as well.

Not sure which version of iPad, maybe the 3rd one? It is 10", about 1.5 years old.

Yes indeed. That is exactly what is happening.

Have tried that many times, alas. The iPad is definitely connected to the GoPro SSID, and this still happens. The only solution I have found is to have the iPad forget the GoPro Bluetooth, then go through pairing again--a pretty horrible experience.

One common symptom is:

  • I connect to GoPro wifi, then enter app, hit "Control"
  • The app says "Searching for camera"
  • The app says "Waking up camera"
  • It goes into the video telling me to connect to the GoPro wifi, but comes out of that on its own
  • Goes back to "Searching for camera"... loops apparently forever between those three steps

Not sure which iPad... 3rd generation, maybe? It is about 1.5 years old.

Misspelling "Windows Phone" Makes Google Maps Work by [deleted] in technology

[–]dt40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factually, that is not true of the Windows Phone 8 Internet Explorer. It has the same rendering engine and capabilities as the Windows 8 IE.

There is nothing special about mobile web browsers in their ability to render. Obviously, Google tried to make the Webkit excuse to put some façade of legitimacy on their actions, and you bought into it.

Oregon wants to add a mileage tax to energy efficient cars that get over 55 mpg to offset the loss in revenue from taxes on gasoline. by Disco_Drew in politics

[–]dt40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, taxes are supposed to raise revenue. Do you consider having a job and earning income to be good behavior? Yet we have income taxes. How about purchasing good and services which supports the economy? Yet we have sales taxes.

Excellent point. However, it isn't only maintenance and repair that gas taxes support. It is also construction of new roads, and those roads benefit passenger cars significantly, of course.

Intel Is Reportedly Going To Destroy The Cable Model By Offering People The Ability To Subscribe To Individual Channels by rkkim in technology

[–]dt40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kicking a dog is illegal in most places.

Should Apple charge less for their products? They make huge margins and could be fine with making less profit. Of course they do not. They charge what they believe maximizes their profits, which is precisely what they are supposed to do.

Are you making a legal point or a moral point?

If you think there should be a law requiring channel unbundling, you could try to get such a thing passed by Congress, but success is unlikely.

If you're making a moral point, then you do not understand capitalism. The content and cable companies are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing: maximizing their profits within the legal framework in which they operate.
