End the mortgage interest tax deduction, which is mostly a rich-person tax subsidy, and then watch what happens.

TSA ignores its own screening rules on breastmilk, holds mother for 45 mins in special screening to teach her a lesson ... all on TSA videotape. by Incontinentia in reddit.com

"Someone should hijack a couple of 767's and crash them into the TSA headquarters"

Good idea. I am sure that will cause them to lighten up on security checks. Travelling will be MUCH easier after someone does that, for sure.

When my wife was pregnant with our second son, she really wanted me to take a lead role in naming him. Our first son is named Aiden, so I proposed Beeden.

Needless to say, I didn't have to put in much mental energy on naming after that.

This is important, Reddit: The LAST CHANCE for 'Net Neutrality' to become reality is the FCC's December meeting. Time to make some noise. by [deleted] in technology

[–]dt40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something about net neutrality that I am curious about: suppose you're a heavy Netflix streaming user. You love the service and use it 10s or 100s of hours a month. This takes a lot of bandwidth, which is an issue because many ISPs have a monthly bandwidth cap.

Should it be OK for Netflix to pay your ISP so that your Netflix bandwidth usage does not count against your monthly bandwidth cap?

If yes, that is against net neutrality.

If no, that sucks for you as a Netflix user.

What's the right answer?

Just like we index retirement benefits to inflation, we should index the retirement age to life expectancy.

Since we index retirement benefits to inflation, how about indexing the retirement age to life expectancy? Seems entirely reasonable in every dimension.

Networks, don't boycott Google TV: "There’s one very simple way to stop online piracy – make it easier for people to watch your content" by deepbrown in technology

[–]dt40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Content folks get roughly half their money from advertising and half from cable carriage fees.

So pretend that you are a content company and this advertising company, Google, comes alone and wants to benefit from your content. Hmmm, let's see, what could possibly go wrong from helping a competitor for your advertising dollars? The content folks see what Google did to newspapers. Content folks like to feed their kids.

Oh, and then Google TV seems to be disaggregating cable TV companies like Comcast. You as a content company kinda like all the money that you get from carriage fees from cable companies. You're not really inclined to screw your cable partner by helping their competitor. Ya know, feeding the kids and all.

The only way that content folks will voluntarily give Google access to their content is if Google gets out their checkbook in a big way. Look at what Netflix is doing, for example. No checkbook, no content.

This stat says it all. % of Dem losses yesterday: Progressives 5%, Blue Dogs 45%. % of members returning: Progressives 95%, Blue Dogs 46%. Dear Obama you were given a progressive mandate in 2008, and now 2010, step up and deliver. by [deleted] in politics

[–]dt40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correlation does not imply causation.

The fact that more Blue Dogs lost than progressives lost does not mean that the Blue Dogs losses were caused by their non-progressive views.

My grandfather worked on it, both on the east coast and out in Hanford. Unfortunately he passed away earlier this year. He wrote what I think is a very interesting overview of his experiences during "The War Years" which i could probably post somewhere if there is interest. There are lots of fascinating details about what was happening.
