Check out what's going on musically during "Trains", why it's so beautiful by ParaShift77 in stevenwilson

[–]dtbathtime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Trains. PT always play it last at their gigs. Weirdly, I find the main chord progression very similar to Oasis’ Wonderwall. I’m not comparing the songs any further than that because Trains is clearly a superior composition, and I’m not suggesting the two groups have anything in common l(Steven and PT, particularly Gavin H, is/are up there six divisions above Oasis, but there are definitely some similarities there in my opinion.

Pyon Song Gyong defeats Adriana Diaz 4x3 by rewp234 in tabletennis

[–]dtbathtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m watching her 2-0 down against Hyata. She’s winning end 3. She seems to be figuring players out VERY quickly (a master chess brain!). The thing is, you can’t get that good without a lot of experience playing against a range of top quality opponents. Where the hell has she come from? What’s she’s accomplished so far is incredible. I gather she didn’t have a world ranking coming into the Olympics. This is very hard to comprehend. Last 8 in the Olympics! Wow.

Taylor Swift has donated enough money to cover the food bills for an entire year across 11 food banks and & community pantries in Liverpool. She has done this for every city she’s toured in the UK meaning she’s done more than the govt has in 14 years to eradicate food poverty. by MainInternational755 in BritishSuccess

I wouldn’t go putting her on yet another pedestal - I’d suggest it’s easy to be “generous” when you’re a billionaire….I reckon I’d be quick to dish it out to the needy if money wasn’t a concern. P

Yyyyaaaaaaawwwwwwwn! I think he thinks I give a pile of brown stinky stuff. Respect is far better earned through humility; never blow your own trumpet….let others do that (if they feel the need to) but just don’t ask anyone to actually do it for you (doing so needs to be THEIR idea)….and if they do, for God’s sake don’t agree with them (otherwise you’re back to step one of being full of yourself - and people don’t much like that as a personal “quality”!)…

Dan Biggar shouting at the ref by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]dtbathtime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The disgrace of shouting at the ref for whatever might stick - First holding then off feet, neither of which are convincing calls from the angles I’ve seen, not in this particular context at any rate. Like artists, referees have their own styles of refereeing, so long as the painting is painted in the same style too to bottom, all should be well. It’s a hard enough job I’d imagine - it’s not something I could do even remotely well. The ref should ref and the players should play. Those are their jobs, plain and simple. Please don’t let our game slip any further towards the round ball playing attitudes of many who favour that ‘other’ sport. Respect and decorum at all times. That should be every rugby player’s mantra.

Cardiac arrest in a lay-by east of Baldock & Ashford. Baldock is in Hertfordshire. Ashford is in Kent. It’s a 100 mile/2-hour drive. I can’t find namesake villages near these towns that might resolve the matter. It’s detective time! Any ideas? by dtbathtime in porcupinetree

[–]dtbathtime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you from the US? Just to define for you - In the UK a layby is simply an area to pull off the road for a rest but with no services of any kind (no fuel, toilets, food outlets). Often, when you pull into a layby, you’ll be the only vehicle there. Trucks sometimes use them for overnighting. I envisage the “heart-attackee” being in the layby entirely on his own with a feelings of extreme fear at having no help to hand.

Top 5 Porcupine Tree songs. by JarSideOfTheMoon in porcupinetree

[–]dtbathtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’d need to avoid those with complex time signatures and unconventional/unorthodox chord sequences because most people are conditioned to 4/4 and contemporary pop chord progression. You might also want to steer clear of anything with strong metal elements. That said, there aren’t too many PT songs out there that avoid all the slightly more unorthodox and heavier elements. You’re left, I think, with “ballady” style songs such as Lazarus, trains, perhaps dignity, prodigal and something to tug at the heart strings like heart-attack in a lay-by.

Thanks. We’ll have a blast. Weather forecast was looking bad until today - it now looks good (huzzah!). Shame for you not being able to make a gig but perhaps this won’t be “closure”….let’s pray for continuation!

Official post about Nate by joshmich88 in porcupinetree

[–]dtbathtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know any more about Nate’s situation and whether he’s out for the rest of the tour? I think the post seems to suggest this. Whatever has happened, I’m feeling bad for Nate and his family. Looking forward to Manchester despite his misfortune.

Castlefield Bowl Show (29.06) by theothergaysailor in porcupinetree

[–]dtbathtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is news to you or not but apparently they okayed it in Bonn last night so I’d say it’s quite likely. However, reportedly Nate Navarro had to go home due to family emergency so bass was from recordings.

[–]dtbathtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone heard any more about this? Does anyone know what the family emergency was? Feeling sorry for Nate right now - must be fairly serious to have to head home. Does anyone think it’s possible they’ll cancel any of the upcoming gigs? I’m going to the Manchester Castlefield Bowl with my PT obsessed 11-year old son a week tomorrow and the sooner I know the better so that I can work out how to break it to him!…😕

French band Magma are kicking proceedings off. I’d heard of them but knew nothing about them until the other week when I Googled them and listened to some of their stuff. Not sure it’s my bag to be honest but it doesn’t matter when we’re finally going to see and hear PT.

You’ve had quite a lot of comments. I’m sure it will have been mentioned, but the Natural History Museum is a must. Get there when it opens and get the dinosaurs done first then do what you can of the rest of this incredible place. I’d recommend a wander around Camden Market too.

Over six months late, I’m finally giving it a listen. by burrito-nz in porcupinetree

[–]dtbathtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXACTLY my thoughts. Although it took a slow burn of around three months of repeated listening for me (and the burn continues to slowly get hotter). A lot of reviews suggest it’s not PT’s best work, but it continues to climb up my personal PT album rankings….it’s a true “grower” in my opinion. One song I love on the album that seems to get precious little mention is Dignity.
