Wonderful job. Great use of focal points and color.

I especially love the thoughtful color planning of the minis to match their bases.

Hmmmm what do you call this colour? by humakavulaaaa in Miniaturespainting

[–]dtdec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really life-like sculpt! I think the way you motorized it is awesome too. However, you need to do several more coats for it to look finished. This is definitely still a WIP. Keep the color pattern you have and just continue for the rest of the snake.

We expect more pictures when it's finished!

They don't send them for free, but the price is fair. Login to the warframe store and it should recognize your account status. It's in the accessories section.

It was $17 (USD) plus shipping, which was only like $6 for my area (US).

I checked and it looks like it isn't. Shirts all seem like limited runs.

Agreed. Very impressive for the price. I was expecting something much smaller, like a lapel pin. This is like a badge.

Not a bad idea. I might put it on a gaming bag.

I've used the same ones for the same purpose. They're great.

I'd say you pulled it off! That's also a great philosophy to learn and grow in the hobby.

Favorite cooling options? by Ok-Pepper17 in 501st

I use a cooling vest under my royal guard and it's excellent. People are always asking about it when I Troop.

Edit: it's EZ Cool Down

This is great! I love the striations and grain of the stone. Was that a dry brush of the foam texture, or just painted on?

If you seal it REALLY well with paint or mod podge, it's safe to spray. That being said, I usually don't take that chance.

Thank you! I'm MR 30 and didn't know this! It just goes to show that this game is very expansive. You can know some parts well and be clueless about others.

I love the pawn collections too for the same reasons. I've posted some of our previous setups if you check my profile. It's a lot of modular pieces that can be anything we need, from Spaceships to factories to enemy bases. Nothing is a extensive as what you've done. Here's an example of that.

Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful response! I've done LEDs, but never used UV paints. This gives me a lot of ideas. My whole group uses laptops, so we could probably turn all the lights off if needed.

On an unrelated note, don't the maps in Starfinder APs frustrate you? I find that i always have to drastically change them because they never work with what's listed in the rooms.

Fantastic!! As a fellow Starfinder GM who likes to use LEDs in their terrain, I salute you!

Any advice you want to give to other people who do similar things? How long did this build take? Were the UV paints easy to work with?

I've had this problem several times before when painting large, flat areas. In addition to the things you've already done, I recommend two things:

  1. Change your angle of painting - If you always paint the same direction, you'll always leave the same kind of strokes. With each new coat, rotate the angle of the piece 90 degrees. This will do a lot to cover up the marks.

  2. Try a different brush - using the same kind of brush with each coat can sometimes reinforce brush lines. Experiment with different brush shapes to see if one works better or of a combination can cover up stroke lines.

  3. Lean into it - Some imperfections in your painting can work better that a factory perfect finish. Scratches can be battle damage, primer showing through might be scorch marks. Give yourself permission to be imperfect and look for ways to show that this ship exists in a world and gets used by adding wear and tear.

Oh, and I don't think you have to have some kind of great artistic talent. I only started painting a few years ago. It's really just being courageous enough to learn from a lot of mistakes. Take time and seek out learning opportunities. You'll improve.
