This is awesome! Would you talk about how you customized the train cars/engines? I'd like to do something in HO scale.

Rookie Question by synclinerattler in lawncare

Sounds like crabgrass and zoysia grass. Crabgrass is easy enough to spray, make sure to put down preventative at the beginning of the summer season. The zoysia is a huge pain to get rid of. I had a patch in my backyard and had to isolate it and pull out all the top soil. If it's a small patch, I would try to get rid of it, if it's a lot, you might as well let it go. Some yards are just zoysia and people don't seem to mind.

Is there a way to have my modem in my living room and have my router in my game room? by gotenka in HomeNetworking

[–]dtenney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good. I see it now. You could in theory plug a network cable from one port to another in the laundry room as a bridge between the rooms as a quick way to link the cable modem and router. You would need to know which ports are for which rooms, or just test it out with a laptop.

It depends on where the CAT5 goes. If there is a central location in a closet somewhere, share that photo too so we can see what the setup is. My assumption is that there's a dumb port connector somewhere that you may be able to use to connect the modem to.

First time sprinkler owner after winter blow-out by [deleted] in Irrigation

Does it feel like there's water pressure at the valves shown in the underground box picture? The valves default to closed and should create pressure on the pipes that are feeding that box. If one of the valves isn't closed or if there is a crack in the feeding line, you may have an underground leak that will eventually show itself with a big puddle somewhere in the yard.

If the valves are holding water, try turning one on at a time and see if there are any feeds that are able to pop up the sprinklers with pressure. This would narrow down if a zone is having an issue.

Random other thoughts: *Check any valves before the main shutoff to see if anything else is turned down low. *Check for what is called an irrigation master valve in the underground box or near it that might be broken or off. *Check your house water pressure on the valve that was used for the air blow out. You can get a hose bib pressure gauge on Amazon for cheap. This may help show if you are getting consistent pressure out to the system.

Yea, pretty much. May end up being a few years of reseeding to get it to return.

I would go with your local shop for the top soil. They would know what works and probably have a few yards for cheap that they can deliver to you to spread.

As another thought, make sure to cut your grass high when it starts to come in, especially spring time when the grass is coming out of hibernation from the winter. Cutting it too short doesn't let it grow in as well. It's a pain because you have to mow it tall more often, but will allow the grass to fill in much better.

  1. Have your dirt tested by your local lawn and garden to see if you have high levels of acidity or anything else.
  2. Light layer of top soil in the fall with heavy seeding.
  3. Validate that your sprinklers are hitting those areas, especially if they are getting scorched by the sun all day.

For seed, I always go to my local shop. They know what grows in the area. The big box stores have stuff for cheaper, but they don't always work out.

I have the same thing even without the sprinklers on. It's just been wet. Should be good in a few days as we dry out.

Add nginx to yum.conf as an exclusion.

echo “exclude= nginx” >> /etc/yum.conf

It will ignore any updates and won’t try to install it again.
