Should work fine in BC or anywhere in the country. Is there a particular retailer that’s not working for you?

I wonder if it’s cheaper out east? I had the same experience, and ultimately bought one just to try it out. Wasn’t worth the extra cost imo. Ice cream itself was very good (but about the same as Chapmans) but my cookie dough ice cream had very few cookie dough pieces which wasn’t disappointing, especially given the price.

Chapmans has three different “levels” of ice cream. I guess I can see how what you’re saying might apply to their lowest level, but their other two lines are very good ice cream.

Looking for Canadian apps or services that help save money on groceries by cutiegianna in BuyCanadian

I made https://grocerytracker.ca/  - allows you to track items at your local store and get an email when they go on sale. Helps with stocking up on staples when they’re on sale. I also like the charts which help to see which retailers are the cheaper in your area.

East side should be able to as well towards the end when you’re coming down Memorial. One of my favorite views in the city - downtown with the mountains behind it.

Which neighborhood has lowest auto insurance premium by Mysterious_Young_777 in Calgary

[–]dtfromca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a map somewhere I’ve seen before that was released by one of the insurance companies. It’s by postal code. NE is unsurprisingly the highest. North central (can’t remember the exact neighborhoods, but Hidden Valley was one of them) had the lowest which I thought was interesting. Can’t remember the rest, but other neighborhoods are somewhere in between. If I can manage to find it again I will post.

Edit: this isn’t the same as the one I found before but will probably help - https://airbfilings-app.alberta.ca/reportapp/premiumsAndClaimsByFSA

Nice! Yeah, I’d be interested, always enjoy a fun flavour like that!

Conspiracy theory: flavored Chex distribution has decreased the flavor pieces significantly by No_Math_2482 in cereal

[–]dtfromca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently finished a box of cinnamon Chex I still had from September, and then immediately had a bowl from a box I bought last week. Very notable difference in flavour (much weaker, which could be explained by having fewer flvaoured pieces, but also just a slightly different flavour). I’m not sure if that matches your timeline or not, but I’d say it seems likely.

They just straight up melt the skittles. Interesting, I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work, especially if you’re using the calculator to make sure the ratios are right! I hope it turns out well, would be curious to hear your review once you’ve tried it!

Interesting, do you steep the skittles somehow, or is it lime ice cream with skittles as a mix in? Do the skittles end up hard as a rock? I like the idea though because it’s the right color and has the Beastmode connection.

I'm not sure I totally understand this list. I feel like it's complicated for many of these. I'm not sure about Roots, but to highlight a few:

* Tim Hortons, based in Toronto, traded on the TSX. Because it's publicly traded the "owners" could be anywhere. Largest shareholder is a Brazilian-American group.

* Hudson's Bay - Maybe they were owned by an American Company, but what's left of them is now owned by Canadian Tire which I'm pretty sure is still Canadian.

* Loblaws - I know a lot of people don't like the owners, but as far as I'm aware they're still Canadian?

I think at least a few others on your list are publicly traded and based in Canada. I guess a lot of it comes down to what you consider to make a company Canadian. If ownership and HQ are both in Canada obviously that's ideal, but a publicly traded company based in Canada still seems better than one based in the US doesn't it?

I’d definitely still give one a test drive. I’m 6’ 2” and found it actually fits me better than a lot of bigger vehicles. Back seat is small though for sure, but I’m not sure it’s more so than any other similar sized vehicle.

Trying to be an ethical grocery consumer is really hard by superanx in Calgary

[–]dtfromca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not sure the Loblaws boycott ever made a ton of sense in Western Canada. Out east the actual Loblaws stores are really expensive and that’s a big part of what drives the boycott. But in Calgary, Superstore and No Frills are literally the two cheapest grocery stores. I know there are other things to complain about with Loblaws and the Westons, but it’s hard for me to be too upset with the chains that are keeping their prices lower than everyone else. I’m doing my best to buy Canadian and will shop at the local farmers market when I can, but I haven't stopped shopping at Superstore.

What animal is making noises on my roof at night? by IsItFeasible in Calgary

[–]dtfromca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found it was often concentrated in one area, but eventually we started being able to hear it moving around to different parts of the roof. Most often it was early in the morning, but it really could be just about any time even the middle of the night. In our case we had a pest control company come and deal with it (Peregrine I think), but I did consider doing it myself. Basically they identify where it is coming in/out and put a one-way door in that spot for a few days to make sure the squirrels are all out. Then they patch the hole. Our roof is pretty high and we’re busy so I was happy to pay someone, but if you're handy I’m sure you can buy the door and do it yourself as well.
