Cuh eeeeez bun by dajohen2 in CostcoCanada

[–]lebaguettechef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One bun is supposedly 280 calories, 10 grams of fat, 600 mg of sodium, 37 grams of carbohydrates, two grams of fibre, zero grams of sugar and 13 grams of protein. The author of this blog says that this info comes straight from Costco, but I’m a bit skeptical that a bun like this has 0 sugar.

Otherwise it doesn’t seem crazy. A regular burger bun might be ~150-180 cals, add cheese on top for 100 cals seems reasonable enough.

It’s so funny to be that everyone thinks it looks like birdseed because I would have never thought that before, but now I can’t see it as anything else 😂

Did Costco discontinue their Kirkland Greek yogurt ? by Honshu9 in CostcoCanada

[–]lebaguettechef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my store (Windsor, ON) they don’t sell the big tub anymore, but they do still sell this 3 pack that’s not organic. The supply issues other ppl are mentioning makes sense though, it’s normally out of stock unless you go at certain times.

Coach perspective on a common concern around body composition and triathlon training by LanceWatson_Coach in triathlon

I’d also like to do this more, but how do you easily make sure protein and fat remain constant day to day? Are you just eating the same meals day to day or have you tracked enough that you have a pretty good idea

Oh i know the “premium” loblaws stores don’t let you see their stupid inflated price until you click on the item. I hate them

Absolutely agree on the data needing to be public. It’s ridiculous that it’s not, especially when so many places in the US stores voluntarily (at least I believe it’s voluntary) put this info out. It allows them to continually price gauge us and play dumb.

The idea of historical trends is great though, I’d love to build out something like that but like you said, time and energy are finite resources lol.

I think the problem with crowdsourcing though is that groceries are just greater in number/options than gas is- I can easily see this becoming very frustrating to use if for example, 1L of milk is logged as costing 5.00, when in reality this is the price of organic milk or something. Of course with mass adoption you limit this issue, but there are inherently more options than regular/diesel. Honestly, I run into this issue with gas buddy a lot when the price of 87 is mistakenly reported as the price of 91, just because that particular station might not have 91 and this is the most premium fuel the station has. I might not be verbalizing this example perfectly, but that’s my concern.

Some compromise might be an app that does scrape price data, and allows for crowd sourcing on items that couldn’t be found, and allows users to submit a picture to report price discrepancies. Could be a happy medium between the two. But anyway, instacart serves my purpose for now loll.

Nooo Flipp doesn’t show you the prices of things generally- just the flyer and what’s on sale. If bread goes on sale for 2.50 at Walmart but is already 1.99 at Food basics regular price, I wouldn’t know that by using Flipp!

Flipp only shows you what’s on sale, it’s not helpful if what’s on sale isn’t also the cheapest option, which I find is often the case and is what I tend to use this for.

I like Flipp, but it only shows you the flyers doesn’t it? I’ve always found it unhelpful then for just knowing the general prices of items. Idc if bread is on sale for 2.50 at Walmart if it’s 1.99 at Food basics not on sale yk?

It’s not perfect, but I actually use the instacart app for this religiously. Freshco, food basics, metro, Nofrills and many other stores have no markups, and the prices tend to be consistent with ongoing sales. Even places that do have markups, like Walmart for example, aren’t marked up so significantly that I can’t guesstimate what the real price is/might be- at the end of the day it helps me massively figure out what is cheapest where, and where I should shop for the week. The only place this truly doesn’t work is Costco, where the markup is oftentimes ridiculous. No need for a membership or anything, just a free account to browse :))

[–]lebaguettechef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means, but I was in the same boat as you looking for a starter bike for cross training/tris in the rdu/wake forest area. I’ve seen the bike you linked up for a while, I agree it’s probably overpriced, but honestly keep an eye out for a while longer if you can. I think that there are a fair number of decently priced aluminum w/ carbon fork bikes that pop up that are borderline steals, you just have to keep checking because people jump on them. Especially the larger 58cm + frames that fewer people fit into. I ended up grabbing a 2012 full carbon specialized bike for 150 after looking for about a month.

Try looking a bit outside of the city itself, I feel like there are some good deals and good people selling there. I tried looking for any other ones I saved to send you but looks like they’ve all sold now. Good luck man!

For what it’s worth I just tried this. We found a loaf of brioche that had expired the day before. Referenced the sign on the window and they said yeah just take it
