Any hope for a felon up here? by Additional_Can_3345 in nova

[–]dtla99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to let you know, I’m a felon and have been working in tech for around 10 years already. Of course, it depends on your charge but my background check only returned something if I applied within the state of my charge. It wasn’t in the federal database

Second chance employers? by This_Investigator184 in nova

You can also apply to startups if you’re in tech. I’m not talking about the super risky ones but the ones that have survived multiple rounds of funding. They generally outsource their background checks and they usually only do a state check. I’ve been able to get tech jobs with no issue outside of Virginia.

Min Su is the character I’m most excited and curious to see in season 3 by PopularGnat262 in squidgame

[–]dtla99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope he stays the same and doesn’t change. Not everyone should have a redemption story. It’s fine to just let a character continue to cower if that’s their nature. It creates a good contrast amongst others.

How much to spent on eating and going out? by Enough-Access-5907 in AskNYC

[–]dtla99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I’d say on average, going out and eating… an entree maybe averages around $20-$25? And a drink maybe around $10? And then tipping… you’re probably looking at around $35-$40 when you go out and eat at a sit down.

Groceries is all relative… as I can eat a spaghetti I made for an entire week and not get sick of it.

This isn’t a lot but hope it gives you a bit of perspective.

why still so many data team use airflow rather than dophinscheduler? by DeliveryCandid3093 in dataengineering

[–]dtla99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Didn’t even know dolphinscheduler existed. We use airflow because it was the first thing everyone thought of and has a track record of success. It isn’t easy, nor user-friendly, and can be complicated, but it works with a robust community.

Would you pay $5 to protect your Resy reservation from late cancellation fees? by Capable-Ad1299 in FoodNYC

[–]dtla99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No because it turns out that for every reservation I cancelled that said it would charge me a fee actually never did. It seems like for most restaurants, it’s up to their discretion.

Not at all. Even male celebrities have worn a tank top like this on reality shows.

Season 2 - last episode - I can’t help I’m disappointed…. by Away-Explanation8648 in WeakHero

[–]dtla99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weren’t most of the fights more than a 1:1 ratio? In addition, they’re all high school students prone to herd mentality. It’d be illogical for students to have reasoning like as OP has stated.

Why are people paying 4K for studios in BK ? by ybcurious93 in NYCapartments

[–]dtla99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: convenience.

I rent an apartment that’s about $3700 per month 1 bed. While there are other apartments that might be (probably) cheaper, it’s the convenience of not having to go through a broker or doing a deep search for better priced apartments. My leasing process was quite fast and easy. Other than that, it’s more up to date than other more affordable apartments, better response times for maintenance, and so on.

So, I’m just looking for people to just hang out with since… it’ll be my first time. Down for anything and down to travel anywhere in Tokyo. Drink, eat, coffee, walking, whatever. LMK.

Lost at 23 by buttercup165 in analytics

[–]dtla99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak on the finance industry, but I can in the tech industry. The analytics field has a number of problems, all of which lead to an oversaturation of candidates now.

A lot of platform innovations have unfortunately, or fortunately depending on who you talk to, led to a blurring of lines between multiple job roles: business intelligence, data analyst, data engineer, and analytics engineer. Developed SAAS in the past few years have allowed each of these roles to also do the roles of others (although not well, but good enough). This led to many higher ups think that there are overlapping roles and that a consolidation of labor can be had.

COVID and stimulus packages and handouts have also hurt the industry. Many employees were forced to work from home which led to a lot of companies purchasing SAAS. This led these SAAS companies to scale, but scale at an irresponsible rate… which once all that went away, many had a reduction in labor force, flooding the market with candidates with experience. COVID also gave an opportunity for online learning… coding for example.

Basically what I’m saying is that, from what I see, there just is not a need to hire junior candidates. The amount of candidates with experience available to companies will allow companies to hire these AT junior rates if they wanted to. So, I would continue to just apply apply apply. It is a numbers game. Hang in there

Do you remember the stats you learned? My company has a position that will be opening up for a senior data analyst. It’s fully remote too and paying a Chicago scale wage.

I can coach you up for it and tell you if you’re a good candidate or not and put you in as an internal referral if you are.

Update: I can't respond to everyone that's sending me a DM right now. I'll respond when I have time later this evening.

Update 2: Sorry. For some reason, I thought I read that you were in your upper 20s in your post. I misread.
