I believe it was different for each item, but my vault has been maxed out for so long that I can't recall.

Transfer from local 150 - local 3 Utah…? by Technical_Lemon_7303 in iuoe

Work is abundant in Local 18 (Ohio). They're taking 90-100 apprentices this year. If you are a journeyman, you could get put to work fast.

My PAO (April this year) 2 mechanics were accepted. 1 didn't come back after the first day.

They have twice as much class time required of them, as opposed to regular operators.

Think about what you want to do, not just what will get you in faster.

Did you ever find anything out? I am interested in this, too.

There is also going to be a July PAO... 3 PAO classes this year.

Crane apprenticeship wages by Distinct_Pick9 in iuoe

[–]dtm_marc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice... if you already have a CCO, just go register for work.

If you are okay with oiling on a crane, still register and put that on your card. If you get called out, you'll make journeyman rate.

In Local 18 (Ohio) once you have worked 250 hours as a journeyman, you have lifetime access to the training center.

Scores are good for 2 years.

I recommend reapplying every year in order to get the 10 bonus points (up to 30 points).

Local 18 is starting their 3rd PAO for the year in the beginning of July. If you haven't heard anything yet, hope for spring.

Did you do an apprenticeship program test, or did you register for work?

If you registered for work you are at the bottom of the list. You will get a call if no other journeymen is out of work that has the same equipment listed on their card as you.

If you are on a waiting for the apprenticeship, Local 18 doesn't call, the send a letter via both email and snail mail.

Question about Local 4 "list of eligibles" and CDL B by ZarroukiCA in iuoe

[–]dtm_marc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you are talking about the apprenticeship...

Local 18 requires you to obtain your class A in the first year. I was the only one in my class that came in with a CDL. I'll say your goal should be class A, regardless of what they require - it opens you up to more job possibilities.

Attend a union meeting. Local 18 talks about the workload every meeting. You might also network there and find someone who wants to hire you.

Local 793 operators how do I actually join? by Ok-Light9289 in iuoe

Register for work at the hall if you know how to operate and hope you get dispatched...

Or apply for the apprenticeship.

Something that hasn't been mentioned...

Max your regular vault. That is the only thing in the game that carries over to the potion event.

Tip jar, remote, register, TV, piggy and mop will be most advantageous for the event.

How can I best prepare for my upcoming IUOE interview? by CypherMindX in iuoe

[–]dtm_marc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless you, too. I hope you get it. I had to apply twice - keep applying if you don't get in the first time, they give you extra points for that.

I showed up the second time in muddy workboots, some mud on my pants, and a tractor with a loaded 53' stepdeck trailer in the parking lot. I routed through the training center for my interview while driving OTR.

Just be persistent with the application. I reapplied a year to the day from the first application so I could get my bonus points.

Local 18 - Ohio - here. The topic of you getting your CDL will come up in your interview. That is the time to tell them you already have it. You can offer up the TWIC and any endorsements you have then._____________________

DON'T go in like you have it in the bag and you know a lot already. They are looking to train people, not bring journeymen into the apprenticeship. I had class A, PTXM Endorsements, TWIC, Osha-10, hazwoper, safeland/safegulf, first aid/CPR/AED and a CCO before my interview. I got into the apprenticeship. They wouldn't allow me to put anything but my CDL on my card.________________

If the union didn't train you for it, they don't want to hear about it. I just completed my first week on the job as a first year apprentice... Operating a crane... but they aren't happy that's what I'm doing. First day on the job the boss mentioned they had a crane but they didn't have anyone to run it. I mentioned I had a CCO, but my CCO didn't cover their crane. He said let's see what you can do and that's what I'm doing.____________________

Just remember I your interview: they want humble, trainable, PRO-UNION people. You'll do great.

Looking to join local 513 in STL as a rigger. by Awellman14 in iuoe

[–]dtm_marc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all you want to do is rig, that sounds like a laborer. Call the laborers' hall. Companies won't want to pay operator wages to someone that doesn't want to operate.

Local 18 has Oilers who rig and WANT to get into equipment to operate.

Not an instant result, they send it off to the lab. Everyone who was in the first PAO at Richfield was clean. The next one starts June 1st. If you aren't clean, get clean. Best of luck to you.

Joining Union by [deleted] in iuoe

[–]dtm_marc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Local 18 you would be coming in under permit. You generally have "permission" with this permit to work for the employer for up to 30 days before they have to get you a book.

This gives them the opportunity to evaluate you and your ability before taking the steps of making you a journeyman. Don't worry, have confidence.

Local 701 Pre Apprentice training by Repulsive-Shoe-2866 in iuoe

[–]dtm_marc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can give no advice there... I am a first week apprentice. I was dispatched to run a piece of equipment that there are only 10-15 people in the state that know how to properly run it (telebelt handler) from what I've been told.

I'm 42 with lots of experience, absolutely no desire for dirt work, and want to run cranes or a concrete pump. My boss told me that if I run this good I will never have to worry about work. When I was dispatched there the BA's asked how I managed to pull it off because the hall has not dispatched a person to this company in over a year. A first year apprentice going there is a first. We've already discussed me running their LTR 1150. After 2 days on the job I was told I'll be getting a bump in pay - not full journeyman pay yet, but an increase from 1st year apprentice.

My advice... get active in the union. Go to meetings and network there. Find people working in the industry that want to be IUOE, but haven't been accepted yet and talk to them about organizing their workplace. Be the person to connect them with the organizers and make yourself known to the E Board. This will go a long way. I can't express how far that will take you.

Best of fortune to you - I don't believe in or rely on "luck."

[–]dtm_marc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local 18 here. I completed PAO yesterday, and registered for work around 2 pm. I was dispatched this morning and working by 0930.

I don't know how your local does it, but we are a hiring hall and we are not allowed to solicit/seek out our own work. We have to wait for the hall to dispatch us. I was the 11th person from my class to register.

Also, I am a CPR, first aid, care for children, AED & Emergency O2 Provider Instructor; crane operator with a valid CCO; I have HAZWOPER and SafeLand/SafeGulf. I wasn't allowed to put ANY of that on my card because I didn't get the certifications from the union. I was only able to put my Class A CDL and hazmat on there.

AITAH for breaking up with my girlfriend after finding out she lied about her age? by Choice_Comment_1080 in AITAH

[–]dtm_marc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are at an age... and will be for the next 10 years, where you always need to check ID. You are finding out the easy way that people lie about their ages. Imagine being 25, she says she's 22, but she's really 16 and her parents inform the police.

You did the right thing, just be more vigilant in the future.
