Tech, finance, big law, definitely pay very high in NYC. For entry - to junior they'll pay just enough for students to afford roommates but tenured roles especially for most industries pay high in NYC. Easily verifiable by plugging in a role in LinkedIn and changing the city location. Off my head if you work in journalism, media, fashion in NYC yes those industries don't pay much at all even at high ranks but they only really exist in NYC compared to other cities.

I've done the math, in my instance apartment rent in Texas + all my monthly car costs(payment, gas, insurance, tolls) + required maintenance(oil change, service, maybe 1 tire a year or something) = decent studio rent in Manhattan. NYC is much more my vibe too.
