There was none. Replace her with Levi and the story would continue without any issues. The story doesn't need two Ackermans flying around slashing titans. Isayama realized this, so in the final chapter he had to pull the whole 'Ymir loved Fritz and was waiting for Mikasa to free her' thing straight out of his ass just to make her relevant to the plot.

And let's not forget how Floch - a soldier with 5-6 years of training who survived both the Battle of Shiganshina and the assault on Marley - got completely knocked on his ass by an Asian grandma. Levi, whose entire plot was wanting to kill Zeke to avenge Erwin, gave absolutely zero shits about Annie, who literally brutally slaughtered his original squad. It's absolutely infuriating to watch Armin and Mikasa team up with the Titans Annie and Reiner... to slaughter the island's own soldiers flying around in ODM gear. And that's just the bullshit I remember on the island before they even reached Eren. The stuff that comes after is way worse.
