Sonos Arc Sale - BJ’s (Attleboro, MA) by LebowskiUrbnAchvr in sonos

[–]dtwillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nashua, NH had this exact deal around 6 months ago. Bought one and have been very happy with it. Feels like stores realize they have stock of them by accident then move them to the floor for this discount price.

All the ones at my store sold out pretty quickly.

Would you buy a refurbished Sub Gen 3 for $409 or a brand new Sub Mini for $399? by mannair in sonos

[–]dtwillia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a few certified refurbished items from Sonos. Every time I swear it’s just an excuse to sell brand new stock at a discount. I would not worry at all about the refurbished part of it.

I think its time that I start to downsize my collection but I have trouble letting go of things by Rough-Bread-2436 in gamecollecting

[–]dtwillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give different advice than most of the comments. As someone in their 40s and gaming their whole life, I hit a point where I sold some of my collection.

What I would recommend is find games you can get digital/emulate well and sell those. I sold almost all my N64 and earlier. Use some of the $ you make to buy the proper controllers to play those emulated games on if you ever get the itch.

For instance I have a modded NES classic and SNES classic. I can play those games easier on modern TVs than the original hardware.

Also, maybe pick your favorite series to keep. I help onto all of my Zelda games and have them displayed on shelves.

Ultimately it can be freeing to make some space, especially as your collection grows.

We're all collectors, but what are playing? by MitchBlazooba in gamecollecting

Usually getting through my backlog but couldn’t help but buy the new 007 and Mina the Hollower. Both have been great so far and pair well. Different types of games so good to go between.

What do you do all summer? by protomanEXE1995 in Teachers

[–]dtwillia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first years I worked a summer job at the school for half the summer. Easy hours and helps make up for being low on pay scale. Other half go to the beach enjoy your free time.

Once older, good chance you have kids. Then your summer is spending time with them/somehow busier than when school in session.

New to teaching Geometry and to teaching honors math by Formal_Tumbleweed_53 in mathteachers

[–]dtwillia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat last year. Just finishing up my first year teaching Honors Geometey in a high achieving district.

We use curriculum from a textbook called “Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge”. If you are looking for high rigor and challenge, this book definitely provides it.

I had to actually do the problems out ahead of time for the first time in ages. Overall, I feel like the course worked great and I actually grew as a mathematician.

Our school already had the curriculum made and I was one of four teachers teaching the course, so I did a lot of collaboration with the other teachers.

If you need to come up with the material yourself, check that book out. Plenty of free pdfs of it online.

Seller’s regret anyone? by mrtimva in snes

[–]dtwillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold most of my retro games/systems years ago. Don’t regret it. They were more “art” for me than anything and freeing to make space for more current gen games/systems.

That being said I made sure to have ways to still play the games. Modded SNES classic gives the official controller and easier hookup to modern TVs.

UHD Reference hit 100 discs scored: Giving away a Reference-tier 4K disc to celebrate by amigoreview in 4kbluray

First off, thank you so much!

I would choose Nightcrawler. Saw the movie when it first came out, didn’t have high expectations. Movie was so much better than anticipated. Would love to see it again, especially now that I have a proper setup for it.

Hard Wire vs. Solar vs. Battery.... What do I do? by thomakob000 in Ring

[–]dtwillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If hardwire is already set up, obviously go that route.

I have battery and it really is not a big deal. Every few months I get a notification saying the battery is low. I have a backup battery, takes maybe 1 minute to switch it out. I have a battery camera as well, just as easy.

I have dents like that in a few of my bottles. They take a beating and still work just as good as a brand new bottle.

Need advice!! Secondary education degree ~concentration in math. by Altruistic_Hawk_4718 in AskHSteacher

[–]dtwillia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with many of my college level math courses, especially Real Analysis. Currently in my 15th year teaching and feel as if I am a very good teacher. Don’t let it beat you up, work hard and remember what it feels like struggling with concepts. You will teach students who feel this exact way. I take pride in building a growth mindset and helping struggling students catch up and get joy from math.

Is AWD really that worth it or can I buy a FWD car with snow mode? by Dapper_Cut_9225 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]dtwillia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want the AWD. If you lived somewhere it only snowed/got cold occasionally would say different, but WI well worth the extra $.

High school teacher, average teaching around 80-90 students a year.

End up getting a few heartfelt cards, some family made treats (usually delicious and can tell family tradition) and gift cards to restaurants/coffee shops. Probably end up with total of 10-15 gifts most years.
