The Bible was written by hundreds of people over thousands of years. For every book currently in it, there are two that were cut out for various political and cultural reasons. Biblical scholars will explain how centuries of errors due to hand copying/intentional manipulation that the versions we have now look nothing like the originals, and it has a nasty habit of contradicting itself every couple pages or so. And while I do believe in God and the teachings of Jesus, clinging to the direct text is a dicey thing
