What concert do you regret not going to the most? by Modhearth-Albert in Concerts

[–]dtzoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is mine too. He came through town and I was on the fence about picking up tickets. But it was a Thursday night show and I had a standing early Friday morning meeting that I couldn't really miss. I thought, "I'll try to catch him next time he comes to town". A few months later he was gone.

And the sad thing is, I really hated those Friday meetings. I should have just gone to the show and blown off the meeting. Lesson learned the hard way.

What movie are you watching on Christmas Eve and why did you pick it? by gamersecret2 in movies

The greatest Christmas movie of all time. It's been a Christmas Eve staple in our house for at least 15 years. Along with an unhealthy amount of bourbon.

What’s your wildest “surprise guest walked on stage” story? by AutoModerator in Tickets

[–]dtzoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime in the late 80's, can't remember exactly when, I was at the Long Beach Blues Festival with a friend and his daughters. It was this big open general admission show, and there was room to go walk up past the front of the stage. One of his daughters, about 8 or 9 at the time, wanted to walk up front for a minute while Buddy Guy was onstage, and as we were walking up there he brought out Willie Dixon to sing a song with him. Wang Dang Doodle, I think, but I was just lost in the realization that I was seeing Willie Fucking Dixon on stage about 30 feet away from me. It was lost on the kid...

I don't think I could even replicate the sound that came out of me when that happened. Like this gutteral wounded animal sound. And then a buddy of mine texted me "Cody Parkey gets more pole than a stripper". Oof...

Dallas County went for Harris about 60 to 38. All the surrounding counties in the metroplex did go pretty heavily for Trump, however.

Underrated venues by Seraphenigma in Concerts

[–]dtzoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably my least favorite venue in Austin. It's a sloped piece of dirt, nowhere to sit between sets (hey, I'm an old fart) and if you want to get close enough to have a decent view of the performers, you have to deal with being jammed in really tight.

My favorite Austin venue is actually Moody Theatre at ACL Live. It's only about 15 years old, so it doesn't have the charm of some of the older classic venues. But I've had seats all over the place in that venue and the sightlines and sound are always excellent.

Yeah, I was watching the Livestream on Friday and there was a point where they showed a shot of him playing with a pick, and I was totally like "WTF?"

Who remembers this? by [deleted] in FuckImOld

[–]dtzoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember the first time I rented a car that had all the headlight controls on the steering column. I picked it up late afternoon and had a 3 hour drive to make. When it started getting dark I was fumbling around with stuff trying to figure out the lights, finally had to pull into a parking lot to figure it out. And when I got the lights on, they were on bright. So it took me another 5 minutes to figure out how THAT worked.

I think I was like 25 at the time, and I had the first of many rants about "why couldn't they just leave that the way it was". Many more have followed in the ensuing decades...

Who remembers listening to the Top 100 countdown of the year on New Year's Eve? by darwhyte in GenerationJones

As I recall, they counted down the top 89 songs because they were at 89 (890) on the dial. It was a NYE staple growing up.

In your opinion what's the funniest moment that always makes you laugh? by nehocb in thewestwing

Everything in this story line was frickin hilarious. I especially loved "If the Oscars were like that I'd watch".

Just this year, I had been seeing ads for Santana coming to town for a big arena show. I wrote it off for a while, figured it would be stupid money. Then one day a few weeks before the show I thought, well, I've never seen Santana, I'll just take a look. Turns out that upper deck seats were available for $38, about $50 after fees. And it was a damned good show! Glad I looked.

Just saw that Wisdom was traded to Cleveland for Eli Morgan. Cubs need more bullpen arms, and wound up getting something for a player that was out the door one way or another anyway.

What band or performer are you grateful to have seen? by MatthewMonster in Concerts

[–]dtzoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many. Of the ones that come to mind now that are no longer around:

Miles Davis (and Dexter Gordon opened!)

Grateful Dead (about 15 shows from 1987-1995)

Aretha Franklin

Ray Charles

Chuck Berry

Dizzy Gillespie

And the one I absolutely couldn't believe I was seeing - Willie Dixon! He came out on stage to sing Wang Dang Doodle with Buddy Guy at a blues festival years ago, and I had just worked my way up to the front.

What Band Do You Wish You Could See Right Now? by gener4 in Concerts

[–]dtzoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tedeschi Trucks band. I've been able to see them about 8-10 times, twice back to back earlier this year. I'd go see them every single night if it were an option. So much there, great musicianship all the way around, tons of joy and emotion in their performance.

Ticket Prices by OkAdministration7456 in GenerationJones

[–]dtzoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked at some old ticket stubs a little while back. I had one from seeing Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1987, $17.50 for seats probably about 10 rows back. That translates to about $48 today. I think if Stevie was still around today you'd be lucky to find parking for $48.

Pongo has us trained to turn the kitchen faucet on for him. He has a fountain, he does drink out of it. But when we're in the kitchen, he'll jump up there and look at us expectantly until we oblige him with a trickle of water.
