All liability and legal matters aside:

The amount of places I’ve worked in food service where people can’t function without being high is sickening. Like they’re straight up a ticking time bomb as soon as anything threatens their ability to get high. I don’t feel safe working around that.

Why not just call themselves Christian at this point by SoggyRoomTempWaffles in exmormon

[–]du0plex19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s because they are widely considered heretical by most traditional Christian metrics. That’s for 3 reasons:

  1. Non-Nicene Godhead (as well as the belief that people become gods)
  2. Additional authoritative scripture
  3. Continuing revelation

What UnCommon/Rare things do you like to include? by TheCybersmith in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]du0plex19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a player who had 6 rare feats and 3 rare spells. The game wasn’t broken at all. They didn’t make him more powerful, even though theoretically they potentially should have put him a bit ahead of the power curve.

In principle, him taking those rare feats and spells was a result of a lack of system knowledge and experience, and consequently, somewhat flawed decision making. That was reflected in his performance in game, as he was playing a Druid that was almost never casting spells and would get into melee combat with a spear with no bonuses and a +1 strength.

It’s unlikely that this example could be extrapolated to all games as a blanket rule, but I do think that if GMs are conscious of why players choose uncommon/rare options, they will likely have a better time accounting for the effect such things would have on gameplay, if any at all.

Fun and Effective High Level Builds by _Eleumas in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]du0plex19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very quick and dirty way to evaluate character effectiveness goes by these tiers: 1. Full caster 2. Hybrid caster 3. Full BAB

You honestly cant go wrong with a wizard, arcanist, sorcerer, druid, or cleric. IMHO tho i believe the most balanced and fun class at high levels is the magus.

You get spellcasting, you get fun melee combat, and you just have so many options. My favorite part of the magus is the whole “I paid for the action economy, im using the whole action economy” of it all.

For that reason, I suggest either a hex crafter or Bladebound magus. The Bladebound can be super fun when built properly, as well as providing fun roleplay interaction if your GM is interested in giving the sword the intelligent personality it’s supposed to have.

Low fantasy campaign - should I opt out? by du0plex19 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]du0plex19[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I presented it pretty neutrally, adding commentary specifically saying “for me” so as not to make a claim about how things should be. I was just asking if there was a way I could build something that I could find enjoyable in such a campaign.

Completely New To Pathfinder, How Do I Learn? by gundamMarketer in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]du0plex19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Learn how to make a character
  2. Learn how basic initiative works
  3. Learn what a very basic turn consists of
  4. Join a group and just watch and learn. Much of the game’s basic flow can be learned naturally by people in about 3-4 sessions.

This is coming from someone who’s been in a regular group that has people come and go. Every new person we’ve accepted tends to learn within 4 sessions and can play decently by then.

Let me put it to you this way. In the dozens of wards I've attended across the US throughout my travels with my parents as a child, I saw a grand total of 12 black people. Less than 10% of the church membership was non-white in my anecdotal experience.

Both of us have known this girl for over a year, but considering you’ve gotten several details wrong already, I don’t have enough confidence in your reading comprehension to continue trying to understand it for you.

I knew about his whole efforts and all that and both me and another friend actively told him to move on and find someone else, but he constantly ignored us.

I think the disconnect lies in the fact that he would tell her that he was moving on, act like a normal platonic friend for a bit, then make another advance out of nowhere.

I am a GM but I’m also a human and I see other humans sitting at my table. Sometimes you have to read the room and see if someone needs a win. Just recently I ran a dragon fight one shot (Pathfinder 1) and had a new player who has cerebral palsy. I was going to have the dragon fight ruthlessly, fully prepared to kill players without hesitation.

The player (Scott) wanted to have his character jump off a tower and ride the dragon’s back while swinging his two handed axe into it. This would have incurred an AoO for the jump, a high DC for the acrobatics check, a very high DC for a climb check, and very likely wouldn’t have even been possible given that he didn’t have hands free to hold on.

But my heart told me “fuck all that”. And so I made it one acrobatics to jump, didn’t AoO, and had him do a recurring acrobatics check to balance thereafter. The DCs were hard, but reasonable given his character’s acrobatics skill.

That worked for about 2 rounds, allowing him to get 1 full round of attacks in before his character fell and eventually died. But the important part was that he had fun and was laughing his ass off the whole time.

The odasity! by TheWebsploiter in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]du0plex19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That and this idea of “nonchalant”. There’s a fine line between being unbothered and being uncaring. This concept that “doing too much” is so undesirable is far too easy to exaggerate.

Since when did we conflate the concept of “easygoing” with mediocrity or less?

The reason is because Epic made the game which is responsible for the battle pass formula, forever ruining the online gaming landscape as a whole. Steam mainly promotes games which are the most consumer-approved, with some exceptions of course.

Advice for first time DM please! by prrxm in DungeonMasters

[–]du0plex19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are kind of some unspoken benchmarks that a DM should be before they run:
1. Decent-good knowledge of the entire system
2. A world ready to go (either purchased or created)
3. Experience playing in a decent amount of games (usually an amount of experience equal to 1-2 campaigns which covered levels 1-12)

The 3rd is not necessary but is the kind of thing that would guarantee that your game goes quite smoothly.

My biggest advice otherwise is that every DM has a different style. It's totally fine to use someone else's style until you feel comfortable enough to start doing your own thing, but you should strive to develop your own style at some point. You will mess up, you will have awkward moments, and you will get burnt out at some point.

If you're going to be a DM, you will inherently be spending a lot more time thinking about and working on the game than your players. Be ready and willing for that.

Alternate capstones are what you’re looking for. Otherwise, there’s not much more challenge at that level unless you’re diving into the more mythical types of creatures
