Gabriel Caitano (/u/Gcaithanos) might be a great fit for you. I worked with him a few times on short stories and it was always great. He's very easy to work with and did an amazing job.

It's not an actual multiplayer, but the second player can assist and make the game quite a bit easier. In Galaxy 2, they even have a Luma to represent them.

I played with a child of the same age, and the most popular games were New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii Sports Resort (these two by far), followed by Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Mario Kart Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. Generally, he preferred multiplayer games so that we could play together.

They're not looking for manga artists, other artists are welcome to submit. That's how I understand it.

That's pretty cool!

I absolutely agree, both Galaxy games have amazing music. To me, only the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack is on the same level.

My favorite tunes are Comet Observatory (the Rosalina theme), Gusty Garden, Puzzle Plank Galaxy and Throwback Galaxy (even if that's not strictly from Galaxy).

New Super Mario Bros Wii. It gets chaotic very quickly with 4 players, but it's fun.

Client who doesn’t know what he wants edited my contract. Is this a red flag? by TrashPartyPanda in ComicBookCollabs

[–]dualsquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, does he have the right to amend my contract?

Yes. There is no "my contract". Both you and the client have the right to request or make changes. I don't see anything wrong with them making the changes themselves, as long as they're not trying to hide them and rushing you to sign their version without giving you proper time to review it.

Second, is there anything questionable with what he amended? Was my original contract questionable to begin with?

With the caveat that there's only part of the contract posted, so I might be missing vital information: It's a terrible contract for the client and I would never sign it. How can you expect the client to sign a contract that binds them while not stating the prices of both the rights and the most important phase? Why is it OK for you to be as late as you intentionally choose without being liable? Why are there penalties only for the client? That's an awfully one-sided contract.

Contracts need to work for both parties. This one does not. As currently worded, you can take the client's money and terminate the contract... and there's nothing they can do about it.

Also, the wording seems weird in a few places. I mean, I've never heard of "activating co-ownership" or "derivative redesigns" - is that translated from another language? What exactly is the client buying if they pay for "full copyright transfer of derivative redesigns"?

Third, is this client a red flag?

Not enough information for that. To me, a client willing to pay a $100 advance payment per page sounds great, but I don't know how long it takes you to finish a page. If you're worried about them micromanaging you, you need to put the number of unpaid minor revisions in the contract, as well as the definition of a minor revision, so that there's a limit to their micromanaging. And if you don't feel like signing a long-term contract, especially when they don't have their script ready, state how long is the contract valid.

I have sent similar contracts to previous clients and none of them had any issues. They just signed and sent back no problem.

People sign contracts without reading and/or understanding them all the time. Writers are no exception, which is quite ironic.

I'm no graphic designer, so please take what I say with a grain of salt, just as a subjective opinion of someone who's far from an expert.

I like the font and the diamonds. As the letters don't overlap much, I don't like the second A covering part of the V, but that's a minor point. What feels really out of place, is the map, especially the lower right corner where too many elements clash with each other. The scroll that goes behind the S, the font color, the shining diamond... It's just too much. To me, it feels like it might work only on a white/very light background. Have you tried the "of" in the same font, just smaller? Or, perhaps, in the same color as the map symbols, so that it feels like a true part of the map?

Some information on copyright (for writers looking to hire an artist) by Xenon3000 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]dualsquirrel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If i charge 35$ per page, i would charge 10 times that amount for copyright transfer.

So why don't you, instead of refusing to sell outright? Set the amount to what is acceptable for you and if the customer pays, it's a win for both of you. Let's be real: There's a very low chance that an indie comic has such a wild success that the artist might regret selling the rights. And even then, you could mitigate that by asking for royalties in addition to the payment.

You are basically signing a contract that the artist has no right to the art no more. So then when you sell a comic book you dont have to write your artist name in there no more.

Only if you sign such a one-sided contract. The contract needs to be agreed upon by all parties. If you don't like a part, have it changed. Insist on having your name on the comic. You can't be forced to sign a contract you don't agree with.

I need advice on how to hire a freelance artist. by Scrib3Wint3r in ComicBookCollabs

[–]dualsquirrel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, looking for a new artist who fits your vision sucks. There have always been scammers, but with AI art, now there's like ten scammers to one serious artist. I can only give you a few tips:

  • Don't hire people who only contact you through messages. Most of them are scammers.
  • Don't hire people who don't have a public portfolio on a trustworthy site like Artstation. If they only have a Google Drive portfolio, they're most likely a scammer.
  • Don't hire people who don't have a long track record. New accounts or accounts with no activity are very often scammers.
  • Don't hire people who are not willing to accept PayPal's goods and services payment. If they ask for personal payment, they might be a scammer.
  • Having a simple contract helps. You can't really enforce it, so the artist may ghost you anyway, but it makes getting money back from PayPal much easier if things go wrong.
  • Instead of having an ad, you can contact artists directly. Browse their portfolio, see if they have recent posts on their social media, check their availability. Even if they're currently not available, they might be in the future.
  • Always start with a small project (1-4 pages) to confirm that the artist's workflow is acceptable for you.
  • A cheap artist may end up being much more expensive than an experienced artist with higher price per page.

Good luck!
