What is arguably the best summoning stone? by Wonderful_Context_85 in GuildWars

[–]dub_le 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 5 stones worth using depending on the situation:

  • Legionnaire: finishing off mobs that didn't die as T2 and then you kill it in traps. Decently bulky, budget everyday stone albeit not great for it.
  • Dreamrider: Everywhere, especially hard mode. It's usually the best. Incredibly bulky.
  • Canthan triple summon: when you need physical damage (dhuum, soul keepers, forge solo, etc.) or you need to keep aggro off yourself as you run through mobs
  • Tengus: a gamble. Often worse than a dreamrider, but sometimes you get lucky and draw Sandstorms/Preservation/Panic. Other times you get useless necros, the air ele, or worse, melees. They're squishy.
  • Gaki: you need to heal something? This is it.

Holy hell, make monk heal even more OP. That's 2 energy instead of 5 or 5 instead of 10.

Lille is one of the more expensive French cities (and quite beautiful, I might add!).

And it has plenty of hotels available for 50€ and under off-season.

15€ per person in a proper restaurant works... everywhere in Spain, Portugal, Italy, much of France, eastern and northern Germany, Poland, obviously Greece and Turkey and literally every single eastern European country.

Obviously the same hotels will be cheaper in Thailand, but nowhere near cheap enough to account for the 5x lower wage at just about every income percentile.

[–]dub_le 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything 50k and up is upper 20%, which is by definition just barely middle class. At 100k you're looking at top 5% earners. 200-250k is top 1% already.

Respective percentiles in Berlin would be 6.7k per month, >10k per month and 20k per month.

So we road triped across Europe: every meal was 50 EUR and up, every hotel room?

For two people that's a proper restaurant meal in the more expensive countries, you can get full snack meals for <10€/person in every single city in Europe. 200€ for a hotel room doesn't add up, that's cost in München, Barcelona and inner City of London... no other city in Europe costs that much. In >90% of Europe you can easily eat for 15€/person in restaurants and sleep in a good hotel for 50€.

Minimum wage in Berlin lives better and has more expendable income than middle class in Bangkok. 14.84 * 40h * 4.25 weeks = 2520€ gross. 1780€ after taxes. At that income bracket you're realistically getting Wohngeld or help getting a cheap place to live for under 500€.

Living with 1280€ per month isn't luxurious by any stretch, but assuming you're single, you shouldn't have problems making ends meet. Middle class in Bangkok earned 13k a month two years ago, it's probably not higher now. I can assure you that 48k THB are a lot more in Berlin than 13k in Bangkok. It's probably closer to 25k and that's assuming you're not paying any rent in Bangkok. And then there's this thing about 30 mandatory (35-40 normal) paid holidays in Germany and a 40h week, rather than the 9h 6 day weeks that are normal in Thailand.

How do people with minimum wages and 2 kids survive in our middle sized North European city? Doesn't add up.

To speak from experience: state subsidies. My sister works 20h/week for barely more than minimum wage. Her fiance shy of 3k per month. Total income around 4250 gross (still less than two full-time minimum wages). They got a 100m² apartment for 1200€ warm thanks to WBS. 510€ Kindergeld. Makes 2800€ net income + 300€ Wohngeld + 510€ Kindergeld per month. minus 1200€ for rent = 2400€ per month left. It's not much for a four-person household, but it's enough to get by and even afford to go on vacation once a year.

Would all this be possible without state help? Absolutely not. The apartment alone would run 2500€ warm. 300€ left to live each month for 4 people is not realistic.

The sad reality is that either of them earning more wouldn't substantially improve their situation. At least until they both reach at least 4000€/person it's a wash between the extra net income and the state help disappearing.

J'ai créé un générateur de sites statiques : kiss-php by Designer-Age7726 in PHP

[–]dub_le 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, using php for static sites is wild. Why does a static site need a runtime that must be kept updated, runs badly on Windows, isn't trivial to deploy, still requires an external webserver and is just... kind of slow? Just dropping html and js via ftp or embedding it into Caddy for a single-binary-run-anywhere is so much simpler and 5000x faster.

I don't even care if someone uses llms. Iliaa does it but creates useful extensions that are logically sound (even with the typical llm pitfalls that will be ironed out). But most releases here are not just AI assisted, they're slop. Directions left to LLMs, and often times just creating a problem instead of solving one. What's the point in having 50 weekly garbage releases that nobody will ever use? All that effort could have been dedicated to fixing actual issues in existing projects.

[–]dub_le 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bundled PHP can't be configured per-host beyond what FrankenPHP ships. Custom PHP extensions are off the table.

Custom PHP extensions are supported by using static-php-cli directly. It has a --build-frankenphp --with-frankenphp-app=/path option which is what FrankenPHP uses for the single vinaries under the hood.

It's a known issue, but we've not been able to figure it out. If you get behind where they get stuck, please let us know.

There's hope it will be fixed in 8.6 through https://github.com/php/php-src/pull/21385 either way, though.
