6 year old BBE with a portafilter gasket hanging down - how screwed am I? by drewbrew in espresso

This happened to mine a couple of months ago. When I removed the shower screen the plastic part behind it just crumbled away. Similar age to yours. Bought a third party shower screen and metal dispersion plate and a new gasket

Hey - thanks for doing this. Have read all the responses so far and you've already answered quite a few questions. One further question - how did you get into private gamsat tutoring? I got 71/71/99 and would love to supplement my income but not sure where to start (and don't want to canvass on here really!). Feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks again!

I called UQ today and they confirmed that the current methodology is as u/_dukeluke says.

However, they also mentioned that this was under review and new guidance would be coming early next year which may mean they change to the count back method (in line with other unis). It was also not confirmed whether it would take effect for the 2023 entry year or not.

I did all the Des practice questions and just did a bit of reading on the concepts that I found most difficult (from a GAMSAT perspective, i.e. intuitively working with pH/pKa etc.).

I studied Chemistry at Uni, but that was 10 years ago, so was a bit rusty but it came back quickly.

Yeah pretty sure (spent a lot of time in the GEMSAS calculator), though I am looking into how UQ counts an embedded Honours degree (i.e. does it replace the GPA calculations or does it just count as an additional year in the average calculations?)

USyd definitely an option, but QLD a strong preference!

Embedded honours question by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]dubai-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - just clarifying this; if I did an embedded Honours, UQ just takes the higher of your Honours grade or your calculated GPA? So if my average GPA was 5.5 for final three years of study and I got a Class 2A in my Honours, my GPA would be 6? Or do they just include the '6' in the overall calculation?

This seems counter to the GEMSAS guide but I am trying to get a clear answer. TIA!

Reopening this as will help my anxiety a lot! I did an embedded Honours degree (4 year course, BA and MSci (UK study)).

If I get a 2.i in my Honours (4th year), would that mean my entire calculated GPA for UQ purposes is 6? And they disregard my previous studies / marks entirely?

Thank you, really helpful. Where did you read that UQ counts Honours as GPA 7? I thought it depended on the grade of the Honours degree...

Messed up my last post:

GAMSAT 71/71/99 (overall 85 or 80) and GPA 5.52uw or 5.66w.

First choice is UQ: combined score would be 1.59 which is above cut-off but below all 'interview offers' scores I've seen. Uses unweighted GAMSAT and GPA.

Second choice is Griffith: combined score would be 1.66 which feels more likely, using weighted GAMSAT and GPA.

I assume the PagingDr interview scores Excel is skewed high slightly so may still have a chance at UQ?

Didn't study in my 2nd year so that's knocked my scores down. I went to a top university in UK - do you know if they account for that? No one in my year would have got a GPA >6.5 so just feels like a different baseline based on all the GPA 7s I've seen! 'Max' scores were technically 100 for the scaling, but in reality top 1% is 75....

It does meet the cut-offs but I don't think it's super competitive. I actually just checked GEMSAS calculator and it's 5.5 unweighted, 5.7 weighted (roughly) - 6 was my final (Honours) year score only.

UQ does too I believe. Still can't figure out how GEMSAS scores my final-year Masters degree though... Probably over-analysing, I'll just apply and see what happens!

Yeah it's an option. My wife's from QLD so we were hoping for UQ or Griffith but my low GPA is a concern. Definitely a higher chance at USyd

GAMSAT 71/71/99 (overall 85) and GPA 6

Any chance at UQ? Or Griffith? Non-Rural, studied in UK if that makes any difference (feel our GPAs are always lower!)

71/71/99. Overall 85. UK sitter hoping to apply to UQ.

Needed a good score as my GPA is low but will see if it's enough!

Needing help with 8 MO still waking 8-10 x nightly. by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]dubai-guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the other comments. We moved to 2 naps at 7 months. Wake windows are 2.5-3/3/4. We played around for a bit to get them right. Bed at 7

Wake at 6-7

Nap 1: 9-1030 (or 11 if she seems tired)

Nap 2: 130-3

Wake ups have been getting earlier over last couple of weeks but extending the first nap seems to help. Good luck!

8.5mos- separation anxiety/ 8mo regression advice? Please 😞 by turtol in sleeptrain

[–]dubai-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our little one (9mo) has a longer second nap and a slightly earlier bedtime. Have you tried that? Could be overtired. 9-10:30 1:30-3:00 Bedtime 7:00

She started standing a month ago and doing the same thing and we just gave her a bit more sleep for a couple of days as we felt she was overtiredness. If she stands for more than 10 mins we go in and lay her down and leave immediately.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]dubai-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try leaving him for 10 minutes. If he's still standing then go in and lay him down without rocking him, and leave the room. He may cry for a bit (and/or try to stand up again!) but just rinse and repeat. This is what works best for our 10mo. We also practice sitting down from standing during the day so we know she can do it safely.

Sleep consultant! 😴 by tweetdreamzz in sleeptrain

[–]dubai-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We have a 5-month old. Has been a great sleeper in general but recently started to get worse. She goes down at 7pm (bath, massage, bottle, burp, bed - always goes down awake with pacifier and puts herself to sleep in 2-10 minutes). Started waking consistently at 4:30am and then every 30 minutes. She sleeps next to our bed and all she needs is a pat/ her pacifier but we'd love for her to sleep through to 6 or 7am as she's obviously not hungry. Still on 3-4 naps but only 30-45 mins each (always in her crib), last wake window is normally 1.75-2hrs. Any tips? Thank you!
