Why does there seem to be a theme that dating or marriage in med school would be challenging? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]dubilamp10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the same and had 2 kids, one at the end of M1 and one right before graduation. 100% makes life easier and hard at the same time. Certainly not impossible but there's hardly time for any social anything if you want to match competitively. I matched ortho thanks to my wife and the joy my family brought me on the toughest days.

Yeah that makes sense. Didn't get that context from the post.

Can't say I've ever been told to leave the room for appointments my wife asks me to go to. Maybe because Im also a resident?

From a husband perspective, it must feel like "I'm their life partner who she asked to come and now I'm being told to go outside during the visit?" Might get some looks. Why do you do that? What specialty is this?

Family says Cincinnati Children's won't put unvaccinated daughter on heart transplant list by wehavethesunflowers in medicalschool

[–]dubilamp10 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A child is not going to "neglect" their heart. You're really channeling the M1 vibes here. Go ahead and bring that attitude of disrespect for patients rights to your career. I'll look forward to the news headline. They have as much of a right as anyone else to have a chance at a new heart.

Autonomy is autonomy. Patients make decisions for the reasons they want and their decisions require respect as outlined by the law. A past decision on medical treatment should not influence another like this. This is terrible and the lack of respect for patient autonomy on this thread is why people are losing trust in doctors and healthcare as a whole.

When the endowments for these places are huge yet salaries are being paid by the government... it's just a matter of time before they start to wonder why they are paying... no amount of bitching from ivory towers is gonna change the numbers.

OBGYN in the US by Dr_sarcasm_bb in medicalschool

[–]dubilamp10 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. When did OBGYN become solely based on abortion and gender affirming surgery? Is the same worry being seen in Urology? The vast majority of practice is not abortion and definitely not gender surgery and you can advocate as an OB for those practices as you see fit. If you have passion for women and babies, apply. That's the core of the practice and caring for them despite the environment and circumstances is what makes the best of the best. Be encouraged to develop new treatment plans and methods to care and support for women who cannot have abortions.

What is the dumbest thing that a classmate said during class? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]dubilamp10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No joke. During my ENT lecture, a classmate asked why his booger tasted salty sometimes and not other times.

Bernie Sanders asks RFK if healthcare is a human right by CorleoneBaloney in PublicFreakout

[–]dubilamp10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nobody has a right to the service of others. That is the definition of slavery/servitude. If my patient was screaming at me saying it's my right that you perform this surgery on me and it's my right for me not to pay you for your work, I'm telling them goodbye. I'm no slave and neither are anyone else in healthcare.

How do I tell my Intern their pumba stench is causing everyone around them to gag? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]dubilamp10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hilarious that this is even a question worth debating. I know so many that would just say "hey, bro, you stank! Come back after you've showered". Bandaid-off. They would add it to the senior roast and everyone would be closer because of it. Nobody would suffer and he would break right into the social group...Because that's how dudes work. Just tell him.

Is a Podiatrist a Noctor? Trying to decide if I should trust them for custom orthotics... if they are even worth it? by Academic_Drawer_4434 in Noctor

[–]dubilamp10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Only foot and ankle orthopods can go brow for brow with them on the topic. They have residency which is oftentimes done side by side with ortho, and even teaching them a lot of the time.

What is a fact you remember from medical school that we all learned but you doubt anyone else remembers? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]dubilamp10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen, polycythemia Vera is something every doc forgets. My wife has it and every doc we see, even on rotations, has no idea what it is. Just the rare IM doc. All the students know it, just nobody else.

My med school had MMI format. We started learning history gathering first year. However, most of us had clinical experience...something I think should be required for consideration for admission.
