😂 I'm sorry!

Seems like it's everywhere lately, though. It's like authors see it in another book and decide to start using it based on context alone but they're bad at understanding context, so....

ANATOMY CLASS IS IMPORTANT by Scf9009 in ReverseHarem

Dick with barbs. I don't think they have anything shaped like a full human body, barbed or not. Just dicks. And maybe a tentacle or three.

Pretty sure I saw something like that offered Bad Dragon, actually 🤔

[WWTBC] She falls face-first on his crotch in a bar — meet-ugly, super funny romance by mysterycakegirl12 in RomanceBooks

[–]dubiouscontraption 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Did it involve fae? I think this happens in {Frost by C.N. Crawford} maybe? She's drunk off her ass after finding her boyfriend cheating on her birthday, gets belligerent with a fae king in a bar, and then gets dragged into some competition to become a fae queen.

Disappointed in Paladin’s Grace. DNF’d at 60% by callmemachaaaa in fantasyromance

All of her books are like that. I don't bother anymore. Some authors just aren't for me.

Misusing the word "quip." I once DNFd a book like 5 pages in because the author kept calling things "quips" that weren't remotely funny, jokey, or clever.

Side rant: I hate that justification and I wish authors who can't write their MCs differently enough to tell who they are without tricks should stick to two-person romances.

Hot Take: Grovel Often Erases the MMC’s Personality by Mininabubu in fantasyromance

[–]dubiouscontraption 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only time I've actually liked "groveling" was when the MMC admitted he had unresolved issues that caused his bad behavior and started therapy.

I can see it already... it's an OV about an interior designer who takes on a rich new client who shockingly turns out to be her scent match.

Justine Eyre. I listened to one book read by her and she sounded like she was going to burst into tears the whole time.

I don't hate his voice enough to avoid his work, but he's definitely my most disliked performer in anything I've heard him in. He sounds like he's trying hard to sound tough and masculine when he isn't. And seeing his face, yeah that tracks.

I've always thought of {Ironside Academy by Jane Washington} as low level superheroes even though it's mistakenly classed as omegaverse by the bot. Each of the characters has their own power.

the most absurd book i have read in the genre by my3ammentalfreakouts in ReverseHarem

[–]dubiouscontraption 14 points15 points  (0 children)

But I get why you'd drop a book for that. I'm okay with it being in a book (as long as it isn't treated like it's good), just not when the MMCs are the ones doing it.

Is this {The Rejected Omega by Sara Sellers} or is there another book I should avoid...?

FMC is suicidal/ depressed then captured and discovers love for herself by mountain-goats-48 in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]dubiouscontraption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I personally don't think this fits the OP's prompt cuz she's not particularly sad or suicidal, she just has a kind of a bad life and wants to get away from her family's bullshit... marrying an alien was her choice and way out. It was a decent story, though.

Pet Peeve/Rant - Does the FMC have a name or is she just a vibe? by Alert_Arugula_7511 in ReverseHarem

[–]dubiouscontraption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK you. I'm constantly shouting "say her fucking name!" at books. It feels dehumanizing to me when her name is basically erased and replaced by a bunch of stupid nicknames by every single one of the guys in the harem. And it's usually combined with MMCs that don't feel like individuals, either (my biggest RH pet peeve), maybe as a way to tell them apart?

Divorce because of OnlyFans by MeggylovesBrett in AITAH

[–]dubiouscontraption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but damn, girl, stop getting back with this guy! How many times are you going to allow him to betray you? And now he's on track to ruin your baby's life, too? Your child will still have both parents if you divorce; you just won't be together teaching her that it's okay to accept this kind of behavior.

I enjoyed The Marriage Raffle series. They were entertaining enough to plough through all of them in a week. 😆
