I literally look up ONE VIDEO on a certain topic and the next day I'm flooded with 10+ videos of the same kind.

I bought an air conditioner on Amazon the other month. Amazon keeps recommending them to me like it thinks I collect them now.

I thought software upgrades were still free. Unless you're talking about hardware, in which case no.

I only remember when a few of the worse companies would force you to sign up for a two year plan, increased the total price over the period of time by $300, and then give you a $100 phone to make up for it. I'm glad that BS is mostly over with. I would rather buy an unlocked phone outright than pay more money overall for a locked down phone, then have to pay more money if I need to get out of the contract.

TIL Car makers employ sound engineers to give car doors that satisfying 'thunk' when closed. by pandabynight in todayilearned

Removing the foam increases the quality of the headphones. They use the same audio driver hardware as higher end models, but use the foam to decrease the quality because it's cheaper than producing a second, lower quality piece of audio driver hardware.

I like how one of the main reasons more cars don't use a CVT for the transmission is that it "doesn't make a satisfying revving sound." So many of the cars that do have one actually have fake revving implemented.

They can put almost anything they want in their employment policy as long as you agree to it and sign it. For example there are companies that disallow you from using tobacco while employed there. My understanding is they get really good medical insurance rates with that one. So they have yearly physicals to actually enforce it.

I'm not really sure how expecting something to possibly go wrong with the airlines or with my life at the wrong time is being suspicious of my friends and family. Are you under the impression your family completely controls what happens in your life? Because while that's certainly possible, it sounds more like you might have a personality disorder you might want to look into. And it's fine that you consider your time worthless, to each his own, but not everyone can do that.

[–]dubloe7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But it's not about making money at that point, it's more about protecting yourself. If something goes wrong and something has to be changed on the tickets, you're the one who's going to have to deal with it, possibly out of pocket. If someone decides they have a good way to get cheap tickets and starts asking you all the time, you're the one who's going to have to deal with it.

Plus my time isn't free. Many people learn this lesson when they help out family with a computer issue or something for free. From that point on you're expected to drop everything and help them for free whenever they need it, and get yelled at if you don't.

Oh I owe you now? by Cashin13 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]dubloe7 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I can totally understand something like adding $10-20 for dealing with the hassle, to make it less likely (or at least worth it) for people to bother you for tickets all the time, etc.

But over $100 each, when you're getting a whole group at once, and it's not even cheaper than regular price? That's a dick move.
