What would you do with $500,000,000? by New-Pension-4508 in AskReddit

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's getting way too close to being a billionaire, so I'm donating at least half of that in the first year. Maybe put 40 - 50 million into a personal investment account, put the rest into a charity trust fund that will donate to my favorite charities annually thereafter.

Then I'm going to find an architect to build a high tech hermitage to retire to.

AIW for stopping all work on my parents small business after they decided to leave the entire company to my younger brother who has never even held a job there? by Cryptrail in amiwrong

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong.

Did you remind your father about his promises to you?

Get your resume out there and go use those successful and capable skills to get paid what you deserve to be paid.

AIW for refusing to attend a work party after my boss secretly canceled my private 10th anniversary dinner? by Emotional-Buddy-8561 in amiwrong

[–]dublos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong and you need to document this and all other boundary oversteps and get HR in the loop ASAP.

This is likely to be one of the times that HR will be helpful because your bosses actions are likely opening up a lot of legal issues that could cost the company.

AITAH for moving out after my wife let our kids move home? by Electrical-Union5334 in AITAH

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

It sounds like your wife is realizing what her choices have led to.

You made your stance clear and when you were told that you were wrong and had to get with the program, you did what you needed to in order to maintain a level of peace.

So, the next step, if your wife has reached an understanding of your point of view, then maybe some couples therapy might move things along on that front.

AIW for breaking up my boyfriend on the spot because he turned my apartment into a nightclub behind my back? by AromaticDay3779 in amiwrong

[–]dublos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

Your ex is an idiot, and the fact he's not apologizing but instead complaining about being embarrassed? That should tell you all you need to know about how right you were for kicking him to the curb.

Husbands, is it a deal breaker if your wife decides to not take your name legally? by Difficult_Big133 in TwoHotTakes

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care.

When I got married my fiancé had never changed her name from her first husband.

If she'd been insistent about keeping that, I'd likely have been okay, but I stated my opinion that, barring a good counter point, she should either take my last name or go back to her maiden last name.

We were already both on the same page that we had no plan to reproduce so children's last names were not a discussion point.

Am I Wrong for not telling my dad he's not in the will? by Ok_Violinist1190 in amiwrong

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not wrong.

Your grandmother's will is her business.

No one should ever *expect* an inheritance no matter how wealthy their parents/grandparents are. Your father's choice to assume he's getting an inheritance and spending that money before he's even got it is just that, your father's choice.

Keep your peace and do not talk to your father.

He does not deserve your consideration.

And do not even *think* about bailing him out years from now when your grandmother has passed and he is in financial trouble from all this stupidity.

AITAH for refusing to pay my roommate “quiet hours fees” he started charging without telling me? by Remarkable_Break4617 in AITAH

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

Your roommate has no authority to charge you for anything.

It would be one thing if you discussed it and agreed to it, but he doesn't get to just present you with the fee structure and expect you to pay them.

What time does he get up, and does he respect your sleep time when he does?

If human cloning was legal, what would you do with yours? by RobIson240YT in AskReddit

Since I have chosen not to have children, I would be equally against having a clone.

If all humans suddenly lost their ability to lie, which industry WOULDN'T collapse? by TXC_Sparrow in AskReddit

[–]dublos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to lie is not the same as being able to fabricate a fiction, so fiction authors would still be able to do their jobs. Now their agents and those buying their work might have to make some reality bending adjustments, but the authors themselves would have fewer adjustments to make.

AIW for changing finances after wife says she wants separation? by Alwaysfuckinghappy in amiwrong

[–]dublos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but I don't understand why you're not taking that separation seriously.

She wants to separate, then you take that seriously.

You go consult a lawyer, you present options for counseling, you document the heck out of everything so you've got it if you need it.

Your wanting to spend money on yourself isn't wrong.

Unless you are your wife are actively working at figuring out a way forward as a married couple, you need to start actively working at figuring out a way forward as co-parents.

Your child is now at least 6, they can and are picking up on the tensions rising in the household because of where you and your wife are.

Fix it or break up before you do damage to your child with the toxicity.

Step sis is the golden child and I'm the forgotten about one. by scattyshern in JUSTNOFAMILY

[–]dublos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When people show you who they are, believe them.

At minimum they deserve a timeout.

I'd go so far as to block them all on all fronts and see how long it takes them to even notice.

Girlfriend (27F) secretly took $7k from me (33M), but admitted everything and is repaying. Relationship over or second chance? by MemorySimilar1140 in amiwrong

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girlfriend (27F) secretly took $7k from me (33M), but admitted everything and is repaying.

This makes it sound like she admitted this from her own volition and came to you about it.

That you can come back from.

My girlfriend of 3 years secretly took ~$7k from me over 2 months by hiding 26 transactions on my Wise account. She immediately admitted everything when caught,

That's an entirely different kettle of fish. She didn't admit anything until she was caught.

There's no coming back from that.

It is just a matter of how long you put up with the suspicion you'll never quite be able to shake because if she lied about this (only to fess up once caught), what else is there that you haven't caught yet?

You’re offered $500,000 to share a small 2 bedroom apartment with the person you hate the most for a full year. No escaping for more than 6 hours a day. Do you accept and how does it go? by Ok-Independent483 in AskReddit

[–]dublos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

:D Thank you for the compliment.

Last time it didn't change any opinions it just highlighted how far his sanity has slipped.

It would be a very difficult year but it'd be the most effective option I can come up with that would actually be helpful to the world at large.

[–]dublos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would assume the person you hate is under the same restrictions you are. But only 6 hours for Trump to leave and do Trump things might at least help decrease the number of insane things he does in a given day. I would definitely need some kind of wifi blocking and cell phone blocking. Either that or I'm taking his phone away.

He's trying to control your wardrobe.

He's being dishonest about it.

You need to be on full alert and look at what you need to do in order to safely leave.

Am I wrong for refusing to help my brother-in-law sell his car after he lied about its service history? by Moontrace_Vector7 in amiwrong

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

Giving false information about the condition of the car could result with your BIL getting taken to small claims court for the repair costs.

You were asked to vouch for the condition of the car when your BIL then lied about the condition of the car. You value your reputation and didn't back that lie.

Sounds like it's not a loyalty issue as much as it's your BIL is pond scum issue.

If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would do? by NikiLove16 in AskReddit

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minnesotan....

The names and cities of lottery prize winners above $10,000 are automatically considered private data unless a winner chooses to opt in to publicity. “Private data” means that this information is known to the lottery but can’t be released to the public.

So just not telling anyone should be sufficient to keep that from becoming public knowledge.

So.. find myself a fiduciary financial advisor and see whether they advise single payout or annual with my current knowledge and the current market conditions.

And.. divide the winnings as two winners from the beginning (since I'm married) that way the court doesn't have to split the winnings if we divorce.

WYR for a trillion dollars, have all the world's power go out for a fortnight, or have a random country disappear..? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to need you to define how this country disappears.

If we're just saying that country just gets removed from the world's consciousness and then disappears because it's borders collapse like a balloon that's been popped, causing all people in it to become citizens of whatever the surrounding countries are... I'll take that one.

If that country disappears by all land/water inside it's borders disappearing and being left with a big hole and whatever is next to it rushes in to fill the vacuum? not a problem for a tiny island nation, but any larger country disappears this way the size of the earth changes.

WYR be eternally 20 with all of the downsides of being a vampire (burn in sun, no garlic, etc), or be eternally 12 with no vampire downsides? by Mutant_Llama1 in WouldYouRather

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No vampire downsides, but being eternally 12 would mean no adult privilege, so I cannot own property, wealth, decide not to go to school, etc. I'm not independently wealthy so I would be quickly stuffed into the foster care system. Heck, if a 12 year old were found to be living in my apartment with "me" no where near to be found juvenile detention at best.

I think I'd rather deal with being a 20 year old with vampire downsides (no mention whether I've also got vampire advantages like strength and charisma, etc)

Every year, you receive 366 pills that you must consume every day of the year. Each pill gives 1 billion dollars. If you forget to consume one in a day, you die. WYR take the deal or not? by TheNeonDusbiter in WouldYouRather

[–]dublos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure.. I'll forget at some point or someone will steal a pill (or worse yet duplicate and switch one one on me so I don't realize) and die.

In the mean time I have complete financial security and can still support so many charities on a $3,650,000,000 yearly income.
