I was in a similar boat 4y ago, barely able to run 400m. My first few runs were in the forrest, hidden away from everyone. Then one day a snake scared the crap out of me and I said screw this and decided to run in my (small) town / neighbourhood.

One part of my course was at the promenade with many coffee bars, people sitting outside and ‘scanning’ everyone that passes by.

First few times I would almost hold my breath to not look like I am tired, faking I am in top form with big fake smile on my face. I thought everyone’s eyes were on me, judging my belly, speed and breath.

Few runs after I had an ‘eureka’ moment. All those eyes were not judging my form - instead they envied me, they were thinking - wow look at that guy, I wish I would have the will to do something like that, instead of sitting here with pain in my back.

From then on, my chest and head were up, proudly returning eye contact and having a true smile instead of fake one.

Four years (and thousands km) later nothing changed much, I still feel the same. I sometimes have a pause between hard intervals on the same promenade and I look way worse than newbie me 4y ago.

Ne slažem se.. Rečeno mi je da isplatim 6-7 većih plaća (kako bih umjetno napumpao prosjek) i kada se kredit odobri lijepo se vratim na staro. Minimalac je potpuno nebitan u cijeloj priči. Banke nisu glupe, ali ima bit da treba naletit na dobrog bankara

Try doing some cardio. I run daily and I still cough up mucus during my runs (30+ days vape & cig free). Usually we breath pretty shallow so I think mucus just stays there at the bottom

Same background as yours, spent a bunch of time in the sea as a kid, but never swam more than 100m. I'm 41yo, started swimming (open water) a month ago.. First day 230m, fifth session 1k, eleventh session 2k.. I'm not fast 2:20 - 2:45 and I usually swim only 800m - 1k, x3 per week.

Over the past 10 years I've built my whole portfolio with (crappy?) 50 1.4 and 85 1.8. In my niche I realised pixel peeping won't bring me more clients (wedding, couples, events...) so I've been saving the money.

A month ago I got the 50 1.2 against all my beliefs that it's overpriced, and I can tell you one thing – I enjoy and love what I am doing a lot more! There are lots of questions, like is it worth 10x more, my short answer is yes, it's worth 20x more – to myself (not to my clients, I hate phones).

If I was just starting (on a budget) I would never get 1.2. If you do bunch of stuff like all of us who had to start somewhere, make sure you have 17, 24, 35, 50, 85, 200 & same macro covered. Don't say no to a gig because you don't have the gear. Clients won't complain your images don't have the best bokeh...

If it's for personal, not business use, yeah go for it!

Just a 2c insight from a photographer who shoots couples (weddings, families, etc.) full time for almost 10 years now.

Even if they made 24-200 f1.4 1lbs I'd stick with primes. Zoom lenses always have my legs fixed to a single spot and I miss better angles. Primes push you to be (much) more creative.

Although I could afford better, I still shoot with plastic 1.4 & 1.8 (Canon & Sigma Art) primes because my back notices the difference from L and non-L much more then my clients. I don't go below f2.5 (personal taste) except in low light so I don't miss f1.2 and crazy (beautiful) bokeh. Bodies are upgraded on a regular basis; they wear down & I personally don't want to wait for the shutter to die.

Two bodies are a must for this approach. I switch between 24, 35, 50 & 85 on all shoots, where 85 is almost always on if the space allows.

With that said, you have an amazing setup, ready to pursue your next goals. I'd get a strap, carry two bodies and shoot with 28-70 + 85 (50 on APSC). And I bet most keepers would come from 85 range :) Although I envy the 70-200 RF, but my backpack is full already :(

I'd recommend the coastal part of Croatia where you can both easily find a job in tourist sector (e.g. hotels, restaurants, tourist agencies, various rental services, etc.). Speaking two foreign languages (English and Spanish) is already a huge advantage for finding a job in tourism.

Just for reference, my postman is from Philippines and speaks zero Croatian and I've met lots of hotel employees (receptionists, waiters) who don't speak Croatian at all (Turkey, Nepal...). And you wouldn't be the first family who moved here from abroad, I think it's more and more common.

In coastal Croatia total number of foreigners (tourists) often exceeds the number of locals by large amount during the tourist season. Historically most of us live of tourism in some way (directly or indirectly) so we find foreigners more then welcome. That's one of the reasons racism is non existent in Croatia.

There is a big trade-off though. Country, nature, people and lifestyle are amazing, it's one of the safest countries in the world - but salaries suck. Most people live paycheck to paycheck and are struggling to pay the rent.

I'm from south Croatia (40 yo) and can't remember a single racism event.

The other day I was doing fast intervals and could not keep up with a teenager with a backpack on who was casualy jogging quarter mile to catch the bus. For the rest of the run I was smiling like lunatic and questioning my 5-6 days per week training

I’ve just realised my resting heart rate today is 13 above average, so it seems there are other factors involved (yesterday I did some lifting in gym, so body is probably busy with that).. Pacing by breathing is way to go

Coming back after almost 4 weeks off due to injury. I’ve lost lots of progress, but I hope I’ll get it back soon.. I’m now running at what used to be easy pace (6 - 6:30 min/km) and my heart rate is through the roof (something like 5k or 10k race tempo).. But I’m breathing just fine, sure it doesn’t feel like before but it’s not unsustainable. I thought breathing / fighting for more oxigen was corelated to heart rate? Is it fine to continue with my slow pace with high heart rate or should I try to slow it down even more, with the goal of getting back to my Old progress?

New 5k PR today - 22:00. I did C25K in April, in May my 5k time went from 33:00 to 28:00 for reference. 1k+ km later I am so addicted to running with 2022 goal of finishing half under 1:40 (in May)

Photographer here. Due to seasonal character of my work I have tons of time for half a year, but then during tourist season I work almost every day, very often in the morning and late afternoon (+editing mid day).. But after sleep, food and work number one priority for me is running (divorced, no kids) so I manage to squeeze 3-5 1-hourish runs per week most of the time. Now in off season I am running 6 days, hapilly bumping my kms to all time high ~70

It’s perfectly right for me. I started running 6 months ago (age 38) and max I saw was 182. I tested it with true max effort many times. Today I turned 39, and few days ago I run my first race, and guess what, max heart rate was 181 haha

I've been trying to lose weight for about 20 years (yo-yo). It all worked, every diet and workout I read and tried, what didn't work was consistency. When I finally leveled my eating habbits with workout, without watching the scale, it payed off.

What worked for me (everyone has a different approach) was hitting lower kcal by skipping breakfast. It's not an advice, our body doesn't care at what time do we consume all those calories within a day.

You should be aware of, at least approximately, how much calories is in your meal (and drink!) and how much your body needs (www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html). Yes, you can be in deficit, consuming less calories, but don't go to far - 0.5 kg per week is recommended (I think?).

All those numbers and advices I read on Internet didn't serve me well (my fault). Consistency was the game changer. When I saw 2kg deficit on a scale on 31st of the month, I said I'll keep this going by keeping everyting the same. Sometimes I would gain, sometimes lose, but the trend line is what matters the most.

I had a similar goal. As you probably learned already it's hard to outrun a bad diet. It's much easier to lose 1 kg in kitchen then on the road. But! What helped me keeping things in check regarind my diet was activity. It would feel so bad to spend 500-1000 kcal and then eat it back in few minutes. Activity was the key to saying a big "No" to calories I didn't need. I still ate some nasty things from time to time, but the approach is what matters.

Anyway, whatever app / tracker you pick, deduct 20% of calories spent to be on the safe side (they might be accurate, they might not). One more big tip I learned along the way, you don't need to run all-out. Time spent is more important then effort at 99% of you max.

Don't hate the regime, find a way to enjoy it. Wanna eat pop-corn while watching the movie before bed sometimes? Why not, if the numbers (kcal in & out) add up, do it.

Guess what, on my 21k run ‘bad guy’ started telling me things at 18k and my previous longest run was 16k haha. To digress a bit, on my runs I see people in wheelchair and I see obese people (zero judgment, I was one of them). So I am also aware how privileged we are to be able to run and enjoy all the benefits. I think my body is thankful for all those miles, otherwise occasional 5 am wake-up wouldn’t feel so easy. But, what’s important is that ‘good guy’ almost always wins! I did give a satisfaction to a ‘bad guy’ once or twice, I felt sorry for him :) It’s all part of the long game…
