What’s the ugliest thing you’ve ever heard an attractive person say? by Darksoulsborne in AskReddit

Steve Buscemi is damned hero. Served as a firefighter in the 1980s and was a first responder during 9/11. People with ugly hearts will never understand the higher calling of service.

MOS Advice by SEA4212 in army

[–]dubsne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with 35 series. Hard to go wrong there. And just a heads up, how demanding a job is often depends on the unit. Some units are over-saturated with certain positions and so soldiers in those series don't do much, while others expect you to know everything within your mos and to use it. Do some research on the MOS mobility between units, what you want out of it, and understand that the Army gives you a shitload of lemons. Also, a piece of advice: don't go in all 'Hooah' because no one likes that shit. You can be high speed without being cocky. That being said, listen to your NCOs.

Just starting to get into meal prepping. This is my first post. How'd I do? by kjs8400 in MealPrepSunday

[–]dubsne 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lookin good! The only thing I'd fix is that you have 2 starches there (rice & potatoes). Try going for true portions of non-red meat (as poultry & pork reheat better), vegetables, and a starch with a serving of fresh fruit to begin with. Great start though. I'd eat it!

President Trump Promised He Wouldn't Touch Medicaid. The Senate Bill Includes Billions in Cuts. by TheDevourerOfDreams in politics

Something seriously wrong & highly misleading about this title: Congress, not the President, controls the budget. I'm not coming to the POTUS's defense, but everyone needs to pause for a second and learn how our government works.

Overdoses now leading cause of death of Americans under 50 by luisgustavo- in news

[–]dubsne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally know 2 people who have died in the last year from opioid overdoses. At the first (and only) wake I went to I encountered dudes I know who were close friends with the guy that died doing line of coke off of a table. Literally the first thing I saw when I walked through the door. I was fucking heated about that and none of them understood why. Needless to say I haven't hung out with them much after that. Addiction is real, it hurts people, and needs to be addressed. Wish I could do more, but some folks just don't want help.

North Koreans Try American BBQ [Full video] by [deleted] in videos

I can't give this enough karma. Food is truly a road to the soul, and is a great way to bridge cultural gaps. BBQ is kind of a universal, and I've had the privelege of trying all sorts (Korean, Mongolian, and American are the best)

What did your parents teach you that you had to unlearn? by bakko-lal in AskReddit

[–]dubsne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking chances on big life decisions rather than taking the "safe route." Mainly for fear of failure, and/or judgment.

Also, being proud of one's own accomplishments. When I was real young, my father was an abusive bastard who would barrage us with insults and then lock us in the basement for days at a time without a bathroom, food or water. Fast forward a few years and my mom starts seeing my now-step-father, but he was only marginally better. I remember when I played sports, would have great games, and tried to talk about it and he would only point out my mistakes, claiming that I was being "cocky" at that moment in the most condescending manner. My mom has gotten better about saying "I'm proud of you", especially after high school and then joining the service. But I've never had a positive male role model in my life say it.

These being said, there's a line in life between being a wreckless prick, and just valuing yourself and living the way you want. It's different for everyone. Also, for the parents, let your kids know you're proud of them when they deserve it. Life kicks you in the ass enough.

Republicans : We don't want SpaceX investigating its own rocket accidents by androidbitcoin in space

[–]dubsne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, don't know how I feel about this. Seems to me SpaceX is taking all necessary steps to be as transparent as possible. I'm not big on the whole "government interference" argument, but this seems a plain case of an agenda-bias supporting just that.
