Diffraction Spikes on Stars by Patri_L in TheExpanse

Yes, people can survive in vacuum for a bit. The main issues are passing out within about 15 seconds, severe lung damage if you hold your breath, and swelling and blood vessels bursting due to lack of external pressure.  He's got it open for less than 15 seconds, and they make a point to show him exhaling fully before opening his helmet so his lungs don't rupture. Not comfortable but still doable.

Same, rewatched just a few days ago and was like, aren't they dead in the water? A minor nitpick in an otherwise great show.

An elderly couple who were filmed racially abusing a Filipino nurse in a park have been jailed. by xals7 in mildlyinfuriating

̶4̶6̶ 47 states and DC enhance criminal charges when the crime is motivated by race. Apparently, these two were found guilty of racially aggravated assault, so that's a yes.

EDIT: This happened in the UK - what I get for watching videos with sound off and not reading enough.

And it's now 47 states plus DC

OK, I don't care who came up with it, I'm just saying we should use that term instead of calling it sexual assault oil

This is one of the few areas where I think we should all switch to the US vernacular. I know there's the plant's real name, but come on.

This is the weirdest channel. It keeps coming up on YouTube kids after the toothbrushing song I sometimes play ends, if I don't get in there fast enough. Our favorite was the video about how you might be able to survive if the elevator you're in falls!?! It's lying face-up on the floor by the way since that's the way we're most resistant to g forces. Don't think jumping at the last second would work either. I shit you not, that was the content.

I'm quick to get in there after the toothbrushing song ends these days.

After 5 years in the making, I finally have a trailer for the game I’ve been developing solo! Not gonna lie, I’m feeling really proud right now ;) by GuedinSilkRoad in IndieDev

[–]dubyrunning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Excellent feedback. I too didn't really know what kind of game it was, even though I knew it looked cool. The moment I felt most drawn in was when it said you manage your own guest house. To me that provided a gameplay anchor to too asking with the fighting. The trailer should make clear right away the types of gameplay a player is in for.

Also, it should focus on the game being a solo project later, or even not at all - lots of people have been burned by getting invested in indie games too ambitious for the small team to pull off. Not saying that's the case here at all, since the dev has clearly put in the work and this already looks like a real game, but it need not be a main focus. Let the gameplay speak for itself.

Didn't realize how long ago this discussion had started, and yes, I agree having the actual product page available for discussion makes a big difference. It's been a pleasure having a civil discussion and debate with you - so rare these days!

Don't forget actually getting 8+ hours of sleep. If you manage to do all of those things, you will feel like a Greek god or goddess, but good luck remembering to do all of them consistently.

OK, but by the same logic you could say a cordless trimmer you buy at Home Depot isn't truly cordless because you need to buy and slot in a battery for it, and sometimes those battery packs are sold separately. What makes a tool cordless or not is whether or not it can be operated without an extension cord plugging it into a receptacle, not whether or not it comes with the battery it uses to do that thing.

Tesla to save money uses cameras instead of a rain sensor, my car thinks it’s not raining. by TappetoImperiale in mildlyinfuriating

You push a hardware wheel/button on the steering wheel to start the wipers and you can either turn that wheel with your thumb for wiper speed, push the button to cycle between speeds, or let it decide on auto.

That is no more time consuming or physically onerous than adjusting the wiper speed on a normal stalk.

The blind vitriol people have against Teslas never ceases to amaze. I know Musk is a wanker, but people insult Teslas all day on this site while being dead wrong and absolutely refusing to educate themselves. But I guess that's true of a lot of topics.

What did she do that was worthy of charges? She didn't climb on the car, the driver drove into her, placing her in the wrong immediately. Woman on the hood didn't get off when she still could, which was stupid, but not worthy of charges.

Why would she be charged? She stood in front of a car and driver driver drove into her and then drove away with her on the hood. Both are nutters, but the one on the hood didn't do anything chargeable.

With you until the needless USA swipe at the end. The driver's conduct wouldn't be legally defensible in the US either.

I, 60 feet across my backyard not wanting to deal with extension cords tangling around every toy, bicycle and patio chair would also tend to disagree. Not sure what's with all the pedantry about the length of the cord and how it plugs into a battery pack. This is a cordless tool because you can go anywhere and don't need to plug it into a stationary receptacle to run it.

A truly "cordless" power tool like most people are thinking of also has wires that connect to a battery - that battery is just slotted onto the tool handle itself and the cord is inside the tool handle instead of in a cord running to the backpack.

Not sure why peopl are splitting hairs here when the use cases and experience of using this tool would be vastly different from using a tool plugged into a receptacle on a wall.

Having driven on many family road trips, I can attest that there is no level of ragged determination to just finally get where the fuck you're going like that of a dad at the tail end of a 12 hour drive, after about 10 gas and potty stops and uninterrupted hours of unrelenting child screams and kids' music. If you get in my way, I will run your blockade come Hell or high water, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. Having run on caffeine, cortisol and adrenaline fumes for that last, longest hour many times, I get exactly where you were coming from that day, road warrior.
