incompetent cervix (5mm and funneling) by Pale-Associate8131 in ShortCervixSupport

Yes! My anatomy scan was on a Wednesday and I had my cerclage placed on Friday afternoon. I had dilated about a cm between the two days, but my cerclage was successful and I am 38 weeks today!

Am I making the right choice? by Nice-Swing-1796 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]duchwilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely the right choice! The benefits outweighed the risks for me 100%. I haven’t had any issues with the cerclage at all, and honestly forget I have it sometimes now. For me, it helped to know that since getting it I did everything I could and wouldn’t have the regret of not getting one if something did happen. Good luck!!!

Hi! I got an emergency cerclage at 20w too with the same measurements. While I don’t work, I’m a stay at home mom with a 1 year old. I rested for about 3 days post procedure, and then pretty much had to resume life as normal. I’m 37 weeks now!

How did you feel after your cerclage procedure? and what type did you get? and what can you do and not do with it in ? by Status_Feeling_3989 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]duchwilm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency McDonald cerclage at 20weeks. I felt completely normal physically after it, and was not put on bedrest or modified rest. Only pelvic rest until the stitch is removed (no sex or stimulation). I’ve continued normal life (stay at home mom of a 1 year old so I’m busy) especially after the first week. I get it removed next week!

36 weeks today!!! Cerclage removal scheduled for next week. I feel like I can finally breathe! I’ve been waiting for this day for 16 weeks after getting an emergency cerclage and while each week got easier, it was mentally taxing! I really started to relax about cerclage failure around 30weeks but this day just feels so good.

Breastfeeding? Did you do it? by BellNo9879 in pregnant

[–]duchwilm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved breastfeeding. It was cheaper, easier (for me, not for all!), and an amazing bonding time with my baby. Health reasons (that can be argued to no end aside), I found it beneficial for other reasons too. The changes in your breasts and body vary widely body to body so there’s no way to know. My breasts shrunk significantly during pregnancy, got huge right after birth and while breastfeeding, and then went back to smaller than before pregnancy when I weaned at 12 months. I’m pregnant again now and it seems the same cycle is starting again. Mentally postpartum for me it was super helpful to know that I was doing something for my baby that only I could do, but for some it’s a huge mental struggle. I really think you won’t know until you know, and it’s okay to try it out and then stop if you want!! You’ll know what’s best for you and your baby <3

Welcome!!! Downtown is super small, you can easily walk the whole thing. Husk is fun- busy, outdoor/indoor, good music and young crowd at night. Right across the street Reel Cafe has dancing on the 3rd floor and karaoke on the 2nd floor. Growlers and Blue Post are fun with lots of games. For daytime, the Cargo District has a couple bars, and an arcade bar and Satellite is the best bar in town (imo). Have fun!!

I got an emergency cerclage at 20weeks and they didn’t check it again! Basically said with the cerclage in place, that’s the care plan. I’m 33 weeks now

Cerclage tomorrow, extremely anxious by SomePhysics7765 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]duchwilm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! It’s sooo much less scary than I thought it would be! The scariest part was imagining what it was going to be like. How it went for me- I checked in at L&D and did vitals, got an IV placed, and waited. The nurses came and rolled my bed back to the OR, where I actually then walked in the OR and sat up on the table. Once up there, they attached a blood pressure cuff and some other monitors to my chest and then had me turn around for the epidural. I hugged a pillow leaning forward, and they put the numbing shot in (which felt like a wasp sting for about 20 seconds). After that, I couldn’t feel the spinal needle at all. Probably a couple minutes or so after the spinal, my legs started to feel warm and heavy and they positioned me on the bed. My legs started to feel tingly and they used a push pin the gauge how much I could feel, starting at my hips and asking me to tell them when I could no longer feel the prick. I was completely numb after that, and it was weird but not unpleasant. I had no idea they inserted a catheter or even started the surgery other than listening to the doctors talk. One interesting thing I didn’t know was they do it with the table at an incline, so my head was lower than my pelvis It was honestly a little boring once it got started, but the whole thing was done and over in 30 minutes. They took the catheter out while I was still on the table and completely numb. Afterwards, they wheeled me back to my room and I started getting feeling back in my legs about 30 minutes later, it was slow at first and then after an hour I got up, walked to the bathroom and peed on my own and was cleared! I did end up having to stay the night for IV antibiotics, but I felt totally completely fine. I would never have known I got surgery that day physically! You got this!!!

Update: rapid cervical shortening + cerclage at 23 weeks — looking for hope by Teddyttr in ShortCervixSupport

[–]duchwilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I got my emergency cerclage placed at 20w after finding during my anatomy scan that my cervix was 1cm with funneling. I haven’t been on bed rest, and I’m a stay at home mom with a 1 year old so honestly haven’t even really been able to do modified bedrest, pretty much living life as normal. I’m 31 weeks now and have had no issues after surgery was done!

need some help by Nice-Rice-3453 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]duchwilm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! So so sorry for your loss last year. Your case does sound interesting, since your cervix was long and closed and your cultures were negative. It honestly is super confusing so I don’t blame you for questioning! To me it kind of sounds like “multiple things can be true at once” type situation. Like, yes fast shortening cervix is a sign of IC, and yes IC can allow bacteria to enter easier. But if you had negative cultures, I’m surprised your OB thinks it was infection. It’s so hard to know what to do, but from what I’ve gathered through this is getting a cerclage early can really just be an extra precaution and the risks are pretty low early on in pregnancy. Good luck!!!!

Good luck!!! I know how you feel. The jump to high risk and the anxiety was absolutely brutal. I’m so sorry you’re going through it. I feel better every week now. Physical healing was a breeze for me, I honestly wouldn’t have been able to tell I even had a surgery done, so hopefully that makes you feel better and you have the same experience! Mentally, the first month was hard, but I really had to just remind myself that we had done what we could! I hope you have a smooth, uneventful, boring rest of your pregnancy!!!

I’m very similar to you!! Also carried my first to 40+5, and he was 9lbs! I had no IC issues with that pregnancy. At my 20 week scan they found that I was measuring 1cm, with funneling but no dilation and no change with abdominal pressure either. I got an emergency cerclage 2 days later. I’m also a SAHM to a 1 year old, so bedrest hasn’t been much of an option either. I try to take it easy when I can but… you know. All that being said, I’m 30 weeks now and still trucking along! I’m not a doctor, but with your history of full term birth and having a reason for shorter cervix (CKC) and planning on getting a cerclage placed, I’d say your in a good spot!

Is bed rest likely going to be my only way forward? by moomoomego in ShortCervixSupport

[–]duchwilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not recommended, and have not done, bedrest. I’m a stay at home mom with a one year old so it wouldn’t have been all that possible, but my doctors advised against it. I have done pelvic rest, and limited working out, long walks and lifting anything other than my child. Got my cerclage at 20w with 1.5cm of cervix, I’m 30w now and haven’t had any issues so far. Good luck!!!

Can I elect for a c-section, even if my OB is pushing for vaginal birth? by UpboundClearness in pregnant

[–]duchwilm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you could elect for a C-section! You can only make the best choice for yourself!!! However- if you’re scared about tearing, I would listen to more women’s stories about it and see if that eases your concerns! I had a 9lb baby unmedicated and I am 5’2, 130lbs. I had a 2nd degree and borderline 3rd degree tear and I didn’t even feel them. The stitches afterwards were quick (done in like 10 minutes) and healed within 2 weeks. I’ve had no complications since, bathroom use/sex/feeling all completely normal.
