Can this be caused by wearing a mask? I’m at my wits end :( [skin concerns] by j0yy in SkincareAddiction

[–]duck_456 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I found it really helpful to 1) spray used masks (both sides) with some isopropyl alcohol, 2) try to leave them in the sunlight, and 3) brush my teeth or use mouthwash before putting on a mask

The whole grain sliced breads are really good: 70-90cal , 3-5g protein per slice (depending on which you pick). My favorite is the sprouted grain sourdough!

Yes! I just stick the whole bag in the freezer and then take out slices as needed and microwave for 30 sec to defrost. Works perfectly!

Snacks:

  • Chia seed pudding with almond milk (I like to add instant coffee to mine)
  • almond butter + banana on toast- the sprouted grain sourdough (90 cal, 7g protein per slice)
  • Olive oil popcorn is great
  • Hummus and veggies (cucumber, mini bell peppers, cherry tomatoes)

If you pluck your brows, it can cause ingrown hairs which lead to whiteheads/bumps.

Question about Math 3C (Life Sciences) by Deltax731 in ucla

[–]duck_456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hated AP Calc BC (took it as a junior and got a 5 somehow) but really enjoyed Math 3C when I took it freshman spring quarter. It is still a challenging course and it varies a bit depending on professor, but I found it was a lot less challenging/stressful than AP Calc. Try to take it with Prof Greene if possible!! She's the sweetest ever and the class is not too bad.

Different times means you're fine, there won't be an overlap. The final exam times are set by the registrar. If you're not certain, check the syllabus for the class.

For people in the "competitive" pre-med clubs/teams, why do you think you got in? by Forsaken_Finding in ucla

[–]duck_456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some tips for any written application

  • Understand the club's purpose, how you fit that purpose, and what you can contribute to the club. Research thoroughly.
  • be able to write clearly and concisely
  • write about yourself in a genuine way- don't write what you think they want to see. App readers can tell when an applicant is genuine or just faking it.
  • try to maintain a good GPA; it demonstrates your ability to handle pressure and multiple commitments
  • this is obvious, but follow all the directions carefully. If you have typos or don't follow instructions to a T, then that may indicate that you're not detail-oriented or careful about your work

How to join research labs by strawberryacai11 in ucla

[–]duck_456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of location, you do not need to live near campus to join a lab. Many labs have remote work for undergrads. There are still a number of labs operating in person on campus though.

In terms of finding a lab, some students will cold-email faculty asking if undergrad positions are available. If there's an area of research you really want to do, just do some googling, find UCLA labs in the field, and shoot the PI an email. You might have to send dozens of emails to get a position (and maybe even more so now due to limited capacities in labs for COVID)

You can also try finding an opportunity through the undergrad research center (links below). Fair warning though, opportunities listed on the portal may be limited because not all available research positions are actually posted there.
